The Mentorship Meme
The relationship between a mentor and a mentee is a special one. In many circumstances, seeking out the guidance of the more experienced is the best (perhaps only) way to achieve mastery over a skill or integrate into a social scene. Often this partnership is one between a younger person and an elder, but not always! Even old dogs can learn new tricks, after all. What skills do you have to share, and would you be willing to help someone in search of your expertise? Or are you the type to take advantage of the inherent imbalance of power in such a relationship?
And of course, most importantly: won't anyone notice you?
Prompts
1. teacher and student
Could be mundane, or something as fantastical as a school for magic or superheroes.
2. tutor and tutee
Similar to a teacher and student relationship, but more individual. Tutors often mentor one-on-one, at a tutoring school or at the student's home.
3. senpai and kouhai
Less experienced "kouhai" are expected to defer to their more experienced "senpai" and look to them as an example. Often, but not always, this refers to upperclassmen and underclassmen at a school.
4. hero and sidekick
The best way to learn how to vanquish evil is on the job!
5. master and protege
Martial arts, arcane magics, board games - sometimes the only way to learn is from the best.
6. crime boss and underling
It's a rough, complex world in the underground and this work is not something you can just look up in a textbook. Following your boss's example may be imperative to your survival.
7. elder and younger
Not only practical skills, but also knowledge must be passed on to the next generation - and this is something that elders often have in abundance.
8. wildcard
Anything goes!

When Peter suggested they team up together, it didn't take long for Peggy to accept his offer.
Except she has to ask one thing:]
Do I need to wear a costume?
no subject
And while he was flattered that she liked his movie recs and came to him for tech support, treating one of the founders of SHIELD as a sidekick made him feel awkward.]
Well, it depends on your preferences. Some people need to hide their identities, like I do, while others are more open about it. Armor and reinforced clothing can also prevent injuries, while masks can keep dirt and other irritants out of your eyes, nose, and mouth.
no subject
I have always used some kind of armour and reinforced clothing, but never a mask. Even when I used aliases as a spy, I never covered my face; I wore wigs and various disguises.
[She falls quiet for a moment, mulling over what he said about masks.]
If I found a mask that was comfortable, I suppose I would consider it. At the very least, one that would protect my eyes.
no subject
[He's not exactly sure what her power level is. He's been told she has some abilities from the serum, but no one has given him a breakdown of her abilities.]
We can start small, though. Not go take on a supervillain yet, but stopping some lower level crimes. That way, you can get the hang of your fighting style without worrying about severe injury.
no subject
That seems like a good place to start. I don't want to push myself too hard. [She wants to make a difference, but sensibly.]
Have you got any leads at the moment?
no subject
It's a small enough start that there aren't even any leads. We can just hit up spots in the city where crimes have gone down before and wait for something to happen. And if it's a slow night, I have a police scanner app connected to my lenses. [He taps one of the eyes on his mask.] If we hear a report of a crime, we can zero in on it and head over there before the officer does.
no subject
Though we didn't have the benefits of such modern technology, all we could rely upon were radio transmissions. Your mask is really quite impressive. [Peggy smiles.]
Can I ask how long you normally patrol for?
no subject
I don't have a set shift, so it all depends on how busy it is, how tired I am, if I have to get up early the next day. But if schedules work better for you, I know some people do those successfully.
[There's an alert in his ear just then, so he sets it on speaker to let Peggy hear: "All units, we have a report of a silent alarm going off at a jewelry store at 985 West 83rd St. Please respond."]
So? [He tilts his head in her direction.] Does that sound like a good warm up to you?

3 but heroes, Sets is no sidekick
He could just say this, but instead he displays his emotions by flapping his wings, rolling around in the sky, and darting from one spot to the next. He's way too showy with those large white wings and obvious in his glee. It doesn't help he thinks the guy he got paired up with is kind of cute, and he was admiring Wiccan in reports on television for a while.
"Do you do this every night? Patrols? Or do we sometimes wait back at base?" he asks in mid-roll, before switching sides, going from being on Billy's left to being to his right.
no subject
He watches Setsuna for a moment before shaking his head. "You know, you're probably going to draw a lot of attention like that."
There's a huffed out laugh. "Flying is fun, but..."
no subject
His wings fluff up when Billy mentions attention.
"Oh? Is that a bad thing? We're not trying to sneak around, are we?" Setsuna asks, not quit getting the concept of practicing for stealth, or not drawing the attention of the general public.
no subject
... And that was a large part of the job, honestly. Stopping petty crimes in between ridiculous super villains.
no subject
"I can kinda float without them, but I still use them to fly."
no subject
He gives a bit of a smile. "Maybe just don't go crazy with any sort of tricks in the air."
no subject
He slows down a little, but tries to stay by Billy. "I wanna help. Capture bad guys. That sort of thing."
no subject
... And probably mess up tons along the way. They all had though, some more than others.
no subject
He could just be a huge bird. Really.
"Did you? Get used to it, I mean. I just can't imagine this ever feeling...normal."
no subject
"I think so? But I still have a lot to learn, myself. I can't imagine being anything else though... or wanting to be."
no subject
"I definitely don't wanna be anything else. I don't think I could be anything else." At least, that's how Setsuna feels about his lack of skills in anything beyond athletic ability.
"But even you're still learning?" He thought for sure Billy seemed more knowledgeable than Setsuna, at least.
no subject
"I don't know everything there is about being a superhero or a sorcerer yet. But I know enough to feel effective out there now."
