The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made.

At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate.

In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends?

How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride.

But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure?

Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love.

HOW TO PLAY
✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc.
✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams!
✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic.

[Despite being a bitty dragon, she's more likely a bride here. Dragon or human version available. Human version preferred for smut.]

[ dragon, of course. sacrifices will be rescued and possibly recruited. assumed cr would also be great, especially in the vein of dragon & bride working together to con tribute out of villages via fake sacrifices or slayings. pref 25+, m/m (or isabela). ]

[ Sometimes the dragon plaguing the countryside gets its sacrifice - but, on occasion, that story has a different ending. Sometimes a hard-edged warrior carrying a sword better than half his height wanders into town, just a few days after the beast appears. And sometimes the harried and frightened townsfolk have a little more coin on hand than they strictly have need of.

It's a service they're providing, if you think about it, really. Practically a good deed!

Although Hawke does so tire of letting the bravest among them come poke and prod at his lifeless corpse, as he lies in a pool of his own (crude, paint-based) blood, holding his breath for what feels like hours at a time. At least the lake he managed to crashland half in, this time, is pleasantly cool. A nice refreshing break from the excitement of feigning his own death at Fenris' very capable hands, albeit not one he can properly enjoy until he's finally allowed to stop pretending to have been felled.

He hasn't heard an all clear, yet, but it's been quiet on the forest's edge for an age, and he's starting to get a crick in his neck. Cracking open one large, slit-pupiled, golden eye, he takes a quick peek around - before deeming it safe, himself, and indulging in a stretch, wings flaring off his back and tail splashing out of the water. Maker, that's better.

Shaking his head, Hawke rolls onto his stomach, reaching up to scratch behind one horn-rimmed temple with a claw. ]

Ugh, I've had an itch there forever. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you never wanted them to leave.

[ Notorious people person that Fenris is. The sarcasm is palpable, even in Hawke's low, thunderous rumble of a voice. ]

Looking for a slowburn turn around of expectations sort of scenario. Wrathion is very unfortunately related to Deathwing the Destroyer who lost his sanity (via Warcraft's eldritch old gods) and went around burning and destroying, but he's rather looking to distance himself from the reputation. His goal is to be a protector, not a destroyer!

Does best with people who can challenge his point of view and argue a point with him, but also people who have enough emotional intelligence to read between the lines and understand his behaviour. Wrathion talks a very big game to hide all his anxieties around consequence and getting things wrong. He's very afraid of ending up the same way his father did, is liable to try very hard and pretend he isn't. Too much insult to his pride won't endear him to you. He acts charming, can be a little thoughtless through general inexperience utilising soft skills with mortals, and hates to not be in control or not have a plan. Is likely to freeze up and/or outright flee a scenario he loses control of, unless someone can talk him into believing its actually fine! Has no experience in romance but likely won't admit that unless he absolutely has to.

Any gender of "bride" is good! Obviously we can AU this together. He wouldn't actively ask for a bride/sacrifice/whatever but we could pretend its some leftover tribute ritual from when his father was alive people didn't realise didn't still need to happen, or else people could know/understand he helped bring down his father and be trying to send him a prospective life partner as a thank you. Or a kingdom could be trying to form an alliance with him? There's also an option here to have them meet Wrathion in his human form and not realise he's the dragon, if they're unaware he can shapeshift.

Can happily do monstery sex later, but build-up works best to make sure the chemistry is working. ] ]
