In a world not unlike our own (or in the past, or the future, or with magic), people...aren't just people. Somehow the species have been put in a blender - human civilization, certain animal traits and urges - and now, we're in for some fun. But at least society's managed this walk on the wild side pretty well so far. Admittedly, there's some tension between carnivore types and their herbivore fellow citizens (whether a lamb can be safe around a wolf with active meat-eating instincts is up for debate), though no place is perfect, right? There's harmony for the most part since everyone decided to shirk their more primitive instincts to live decently. Usually.

Except when matters of mating come onto the scene, of course.

Need I say more? Mostly, this serves as a shameless excuse to throw concepts like Beastars in with well-loved tropes like animal ears/tails, a/b/o, pet people, heat and rut, werewolfery, etc. And if I have to explain why I want to see characters like Geralt with wolf ears or Thor with a golden retriever tail, I won't apologize when I say it speaks for itself.

1. animal features focus: Less a prompt and more of an add-in to others, this option features heavy emphasis on animal characteristics like ears, tail, fur, scales, and teeth. Scritch-scratch. Forget the conventional, embrace unusual erogenous pinpoints.


2. first heat: Baby's first heat. YOU'RE A TEENAGER/LATE BLOOMER AND WHAT IS THIS?


3. old hand: You've done this a million times, but it never gets any easier.

35. fighter: Part of your process is seeing who's worthy of you by testing their mettle. That, or you want to fight anything.

Mobius had been asking for a while, but he was used to his request getting rejected. More often than not, the koala barely got the chance to glimpse the Loki variants before they were pruned. Sometimes, he got back from following a lead on a timeline and one of his colleagues would tell him about another one that had gotten shoved through the system and sentenced before he even had a chance to know about their existence. They found it amusing, but it hurt, man.

The general attitude that was encouraged around the TVA was that they were guarding the Sacred Timeline and that most of the variants, of any kind, that come through were clearly not the same as them and so didn't belong. It made it easy to remove them from existence, whether Mobius agreed with that thinking or not. There was so much learning they were missing out on! And maybe that was the biggest problem: Mobius' job was to learn and to be curious and to think outside the box, while everyone else's jobs were to just do their jobs.

It made aspects of his life very lonely.

This attitude did have its contradictions, though. Only the hardest of shells, (literally, as often was the case with the Hunters), could resist the empathy they felt when a variant like them came through the system.

"You've been asking for a Loki Variant," Renslayer told Mobius as B-15 prodded the hissing cat towards him. "This one seems suitable to leave with you."

Suitable only because you get uncomfortable pruning your own kind, Mobius thought, his gaze flicking to the tips of the judge's pointed ears. That, and the sweet musk that was wafting from this variant cat was probably doing a good job of confusing several of the TVA staff. Interesting.

Mobius only smiled and said "thank you." like a good, grateful analyst, though.

Every bit of Loki's black fur that was not hidden unden the jumpsuit had come up to a stand. His tail was completely fluffed up, almost more than twice as thick as it normally was. His ears, sticking backwards, practically cupped the back of his head.

The bell hanging from his collar tinkled as he was shoved towards Mobius, stumbling a few steps before he spread his legs and regained his balance. The particular musky scent radiating from his body became stronger then, reaching even the palate of those around him. Flipping his hair back as he stood to his full height again, he turned and hissed at them all for good measure.

"I demand you take this thing off me! You have no idea who you're dealing with!"

Jerking his arms he tried to set himself free from the cuffs keeping his wrists bound, retaliation for his attempt at scratching the eyes out of a hunter or two.

"I am Loki of Asgard and I am--!!"

"-Burdened with glorious purpose," Mobius cut in gently, whether that was how Loki intended to finish that sentence or not. "And heavily in heat, wow."

His gaze flicked over the scared, angry cat. He could feel his mouth watering and had to make sure he swallowed before he started to drool. "How do you go anywhere when you're like this normally? I've never known a musk so heavy, I feel it coating the roof of my mouth."

Reaching out, he grabbed for the short links of chain between Loki's wrists, and ignored B-15 as she offered him a pruning stick. He waved the offer off and instead pointed to the controller for the collar. Why threaten violence and the finality of never existing when you can train good behavior more gently.

"Come on, pussycat. Let's see what we can do to help you out."

Loki's green eyes grew even wider if even possible, his pupils nothing but thin slits. Pulling up his upper lip in a mixture of confusion and distaste, he watched the exchange between the guard who'd captured him and this shameless little man. How had he finished what he'd intended to declare? Were they mind readers? Is that how they found him?

What sort of sorcery was that?

"I demand you set me free this very instant," Loki pointed out firmly but far more calmer than a moment ago, still shocked over how somebody could ever dare to speak of the heat of a prince so shamelessly. Back in Asgard, he'd seen the effects he coudl cause on others, but normally the only one who dared pounce of him was the other Odin's heir.

His ears relaxed but remained turned backwards in a bit of clear shame. His tail, still fluffled up, turned almost betrayingly towards the agent as he guided him, brushing him and almost curling around his leg.

But Loki was still firm on his posture, tugging on his chains even as he followed the man away from those who'd brought him in.

"Get me out of here and you will indeed be rewarded."

Lucidian was a bit of a lone wolf, a stray who'd been taken in by the same person who had adopted Chloe. The wolf had been hesitant and withdrawn at first, mostly keeping to himself, and slinking in the shadows; but eventually his curiosity got the better of him, and he began to interact with the other animals. The pink-haired rat girl, especially, seemed to bring out his protective instincts. She was so small, and sweet-looking, he couldn't help but want to look out for her, make sure the bigger animals made room for her. After all, he wasn't afraid to throw his weight around a little if he had to.

But eventually, curiosity and protectiveness began evolving into something more.

Despite her young age and tiny size, Chloe had never thought she needed someone to look out for her. She felt she was more than capable of handling things herself. That wasn't to say she was going to tell anyone that, not if it meant a good looking guy looking after her. Making Lucidian worry and fuss over her was a pretty fun pastime. And when she noticed his feelings might be more than just purely protective, well, that's where the fun would really get to start.

"What's the matter?" she asked from her perch in his lap, knowing full well that if she could smell her own first heat coming on, she had to practically reek of it to his sensitive wolf nose.

G'raha had been experiencing vivid dreams of shapes and colors, of bright red marks and the radiant sun. When he spoke to the 'nunh' of the tribe, the grizzled old chief smiled proudly and bid him a safe and prosperous journey. When a 'tia', a bachelor among the tribes, began his dreaming it was time for him to set out and establish one of his own. The wide-eyed boy who read countless tales of heroism had grown quickly, and could barely fathom the thought of becoming G'raha Nunh.

Despite his minor cold feet he pressed on, spending his waking hours hunting and moving, while his nights were restless and full of color that swam beneath his closed eyelids. Mornings always left him gasping, skin fevered to the touch, but he pushed all that aside to reserve that energy toward traveling. No use feeling hot and bothered when there wasn't really anyone around, now was there?

But what would they be like...? His mind asked for the hundredth time. Seeking dreams were always so vague despite their intoxicating effect on the body, giving no hint to a face, a body or a name to ask for. Would that it could be so easy... how would he know when he'd found them?

G'raha stooped at a stream and sighed, splashed cold water over his face. The next scoop of hands beneath the surface would be to drink deep, do anything to cool himself further. Perhaps after he may hunt again, if anything to blow the restless energy...

What a wonderful season...

It might not seem that different from any other, but one had to have the nose for it. Like a newly ripened fruit waiting to be plucked, yes, they were out there, even coming to her on their own. Could they feel her presence? Every morning? Along his feet, legs, hips; a trail of heat that poured over as the sun rose, making them writhe, making them need?

Her ears flicked and she licked a fang.

It doesn't look like he had noticed yet. Poor, poor young man, but this was all new to him, wasn't it? Sitting crouched across the small stream from him, his tail curled beneath her, she gave him an eye over, one arm resting over her slightly parted knees and her chin supported by her hand. Not bad, not bad at all.

His heart drummed against his ribs, made his fingers shake as he lowered them to the grass, gently eased him to his feet. If his exit was smooth enough he could become like a shadow in the woods, and he could regroup to find out how he'd managed to be spotted by someone without his noticing.

He slowly made his first steps backward toward the treeline, pushing his hair out of his face. Red eyes scanned the riverbank... and then his heart leaped into his throat.

Perhaps he'd been hunting too many deer. He made an awfully good impression of one just then.
