the BLACKOUT meme having the power go out can be anything from an inconvenience to a disaster. you can explore that spectrum here. is it cozy? is it deadly? is your character most concerned about the wifi being down? reasons. 1. natural. storms or earthquakes or your neighbor's kid driving into the power pole. 2. unnatural. aliens have invaded, monsters have overrun, or the avengers have knocked out the power grid again. 3. setting. in post-apocolyptic conditions or off the grid setups, questionable utilities are a given. 4. you. somehow you have caused this mess. fix it or pass the blame. what to do. 1. wait it out. light up a candle and hunker down. 2. fix it. for those who invested in the handiness skill: fuel up a generator, flip a breaker, replace a fuse. 3. leave. there's a reason the power is out, and maybe that reason has you on the move. 4. this is my life now. enjoy the simple lifestyle, because the power's gone for good. instructions: top level with your character, canon, and any desired preferences. tag around. be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

Three months, three apartments. Moving from place to place is the new norm, always looking for resources and more defensible locations. The demons come out at night, the old gangs of Gotham child's play compared to these things. She's never seen one up close and madre de dios, she hopes she never does. The one she saw from afar still haunts her nightmares.

She clings to her evening routine, cleaning her pistol and double checking her flashlight. It doesn't turn on. She swaps out the batteries for a dwindling supplies of fresh ones and tries again. Nothing. "Piece of shit," she mutters under her breath, frustration in every word.

[The cause, mundane, did its damage. A demon decided to put its mouth to the spigot: the city's local electrical station. The damage was done and folks showed up to start fixing it only minutes after Nero came in and put the thing in the dirt.

He got back to the shop, sliding open the big sliding metal doors with one hand before slipping inside. It was nice and dark out but noisy to compensate. Emergency vehicles. Police sirens. People yelling at their neighbors. Once he was inside, he conjured his spectral 'wings' to light up the darkness, not wanting to trip over any tools or parts on the garage floor.]

Guess everything is gonna sorts look blue for a while. [He unfolded those wings and they showed they had hands at their ends, rooting around the garage. Nero poked around boxes, irritable.]

Unless I find the battery lamps... What a mess.

[ That announcement was far too suspicious, and it really could be a trap! Before the elevator doors can close, Alice flings himself forward, into the way to prevent another step towards foolish recklessness. For a moment, his plan seems flawlessly executed, the elevator held in place, which should provide an opening for everyone to get on together, but something beneath the sole of his foot pricks him, and he stumbles, landing on his hands and knees on the other side of the doors.

They slide shut behind him with finality. As the others call out to both him and Sara, the elevator lurches partway to its destination. Its lights flicker, only to go out, leaving its occupants in complete darkness.

Enclosed spaces and the dark are nothing to fear, but a startled yelp is the first thing that Alice utters all the same — the second such sound in the span of mere minutes, given that stepping on some sharp object barefoot was rather unpleasant, even though his feet are hardly fragile. The lights don't appear to be coming back on, either... The elevator isn't moving.

In short, the situation at hand has developed into a considerable yikes. ]

[ This time, Alice whispers the girl's name into the pitch black space around him. Slowly feeling his way around, he reaches for the nearest wall. ]

[ The dark is nothing to fear — under normal circumstances. Considering everything that has transpired since they were brought here to endure this waking nightmare, something else dreadful could be afoot yet again! ]

Be at ease... I'm accustomed to confinement, after all, and as soon as we can leave, we shall continue to search for answers...!

The Doctor exits the TARDIS, using his sonic as a torch to light his way. The only thing that seemed to have power in this part of the planet was the TARDIS. He was less than pleased about that. And while he wouldn't necessarily say Evie was a companion, she was the closest thing he had at the time. Besides, whether or not she has power might let him know just how powerful this blackout is. And of course, he had to figure it out.
