[ Monsters. Actual monsters.

When they'd first started hearing the reports coming out of the completely locked-down South Korea, Daisy thought it might be another outbreak of terrigen exposure leading to mass Inhuman transformations. The country had barely experienced the phenomenon the first time around, so it would make sense that the general population might freak out over dozens of people suddenly developing unusual physical attributes and abilities beyond their control. But as they'd learned more about what was happening, it had become horrifyingly clear that this was something else entirely.

SHIELD offered assistance from the very start but all offers were summarily dismissed in a way that made it clear that secrets were being guarded with deadly force. So, in the weeks that followed those first reports, the organization prepared. Hacking into military communications was child's play for Daisy and each day revealed some new detail that made them move faster. By the time they started hearing about the special infected, they had the infrastructure in place to make a difference — even if it meant fighting the South Korean military to do it.

Which, in the end, it did. Between soldiers, monsters, and the humans who welcomed a lawless existence, they lost six agents in the extraction of four different groups of survivors, but it was a sacrifice that all of them had willingly made. The survivors made the journey across oceans and continents in slightly cramped containment modules, and each group was quarantined to a single level of the Lighthouse base equipped with living quarters and kitchen space. Being an underground bunker designed to survive an apocalypse in the 1970s, there wasn't exactly much of a view, but no one was being hunted or worrying about basic needs like drinking water. And if anyone made the accusation of being held prisoner, the agents and medical staff quarantining with them offered the reminder that they'd voluntarily exposed themselves knowing they might never leave the base again.

It's been a very long five days since the last group arrived and Daisy Johnson is... Exhausted doesn't begin to cover it. Afraid doesn't even enter her vocabulary. SHIELD was founded to protect people and that is a principle she'll hold to until her dying day. That doesn't mean it's always easy. Most days, it is beyond hard, and at the end of this particular day, she just wants a few minutes of peace and an ice-cold beer. She'll have to settle for the slightly eerie quiet of level 10's mess hall and a lukewarm beer, but it's better than nothing.

She's settled at one of the tables, legs propped up on an opposite chair, and is listening to the almost silent beeping of the wrist monitors they're all wearing. Her heartbeat is steady, just like years of training had taught her, but that day someone else's had spiked. It was the first time she'd seen someone transform into something else — she hopes it will be the last. ]
