WHERE: Where do you look for business?

1 - STREET - You wait on the sidewalk, wink at the passing cars, dress yourself in revealing clothing and garish makeup. You don't cost much. Maybe you're desperate, or in debt, or your life fell apart. Maybe you're independent; maybe you have a pimp, and a quota to fill. Either way, you have to work hard for your living.

2 - HOUSE OF PLEASURE - It's a good life, isn't it? You have a place to stay, a roof over your head. You don't even have to leave the House -- or perhaps you're not allowed to. You could have a good madame, or a harsh one; maybe you can pick your clientele, even. If you cater to a certain odd set of tastes, though, you might not have a choice at all.

3 - TEMPLE - It is an act of worship, for you. Of piety. Sex is about fertility, the giving and receiving of energy, a sacred act. When you bed another, it is for the benefit of you both.

4 - IN PRIVATE - You're a call girl. An escort. You go to parties; you know how to speak the language of the rich and famous. You dress well, act confident, and know how to get what you want. You're a valuable companion, and they better be prepared to pay dearly for you, tonight.

WHY: Why are you hiring this particular person?

Qian could certainly understand certain types of mortals clinging to their devotion towards a fox deity. Tricksters, strategists, gamblers, those who wished to have a bit of a fox's wit and luck favor them. It was a bit of a surprise to find out another set of devotees during one of her opera/drinking adventures, one that was actually too amusing to not investigate in person in spite of her fourth brother's lack of participation.

It was hard to keep a straight face as the 'young lord' was given a tour of the gardens and noticed a very well-tended fox shrine before being shown to an oddly modest and remote suite. Qian, under her alternate identity of the young and unpredictable cultivator Si Yin, had made one very odd requirement in who would provide entertainment. It was a round fan with white-on-white embroidery, only someone who fully understood the fox traits of knowledge, wit, and subtlety on top of beauty and allure would know the Pure Jade Fan was the treasure of Kunlun, not the Cloud Clearing Fan owned by the reclusive fox queen.

Thus, the one who had kept a carefully silent detachment while others marveled loudly at Kunlun's ancient weapon and pretended to know something about it that others may not was given the task of entertaining their most discreet set of rooms. There was a rather alarming stack of wine jars nearby but nothing else was out of place. Even entering the secluded suite would only reveal a cultivator of indeterminable age in a uniform just as white as a Lan but even more severely simple. No embroidery or embellishments other than the small bit of purple edging along one half of the outer tunic collar. Just a young 'man' toying with a jar of wine watching the moon.

Huaisang is not bothered when he's selected to entertain the guest and he enters the room after proper preparations had been made. His eyes move first to the number of wine jars when he comes in and then to the cultivator. He cups his hands in front of him and bows deeply to them. There was not much that stood out in the clothes of the other. He doesn't judge by appearances alone, many things can be hidden. He knows that more than most.

"Do you find the wine satisfactory?"

Huaisang tries to hide a smile as he asks -- clearly it has been satisfactory enough to drink.

So young, so adorable... Qian actually laughed a little at the question and glanced over at him, then down at the jar in her hand and took her time to consider her answer. "A long time ago, I used to come here with my senior brothers to drink and watch performances when we were supposed to be studying poetry. The wine at home is superior, but..."

A light wave of her free hand made the rest of the sentence obvious, she was enjoying the place more than the alcohol. Dark eyes drifted back over to him with playful amusement and gestured with her chin for him to join her. Well, 'him'. "I didn't realize the patron deity had shifted while I was away... I'll have to scold my brothers for not telling me how many pretty men devote themselves to foxes."

Huaisang studies the other with bright curious eyes. "How long ago," he asks, though partially he's pondering it himself. He probably shouldn't ask too many questions. There are fine lines to walk after all.

Huaisang does join him, setting carefully and raising his gaze to the client's.

"Is there anything more fitting?"

"How long ago? I was half my current age..." Vague enough but also the truth. And now that the maids and profiteers had probably drifted off to let 'business' happen, a slight wave did away with Si Yin's masking illusion. Not much really changed other than her features becoming softer and a change in clothing, perhaps letting her hair down a bit (literally). The light, unadorned silks of her dress were a far cry from those one would expect a noble or divinity to prefer, dyed in colors that wouldn't be quick to show evidence of walking off a tiled floor.

"At least a fox doesn't rely on just looks and some pretense of talent, they look more like peacocks to me. Showing their looks and screaming for attention..."

Maybe she has a patron that returns time after time, and although she is reluctant to admit that she has fond feelings for him, eventually does. I have so many horrible ideas of the hurt I can inflict in this verse, but ultimately, I would love for them to have a happy ending.]
