The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

Looking for a slowburn turn around of expectations sort of scenario. Wrathion is very unfortunately related to Deathwing the Destroyer who lost his sanity (via Warcraft's eldritch old gods) and went around burning and destroying, but he's rather looking to distance himself from the reputation. His goal is to be a protector, not a destroyer!

Does best with people who can challenge his point of view and argue a point with him, but also people who have enough emotional intelligence to read between the lines and understand his behaviour. Wrathion talks a very big game to hide all his anxieties around consequence and getting things wrong. He's very afraid of ending up the same way his father did, is liable to try very hard and pretend he isn't. Too much insult to his pride won't endear him to you. He acts charming, can be a little thoughtless through general inexperience utilising soft skills with mortals, and hates to not be in control or not have a plan. Is likely to freeze up and/or outright flee a scenario he loses control of, unless someone can talk him into believing its actually fine! Has no experience in romance but likely won't admit that unless he absolutely has to.

Any gender of "bride" is good! Obviously we can AU this together. He wouldn't actively ask for a bride/sacrifice/whatever but we could pretend its some leftover tribute ritual from when his father was alive people didn't realise didn't still need to happen, or else people could know/understand he helped bring down his father and be trying to send him a prospective life partner as a thank you. Or a kingdom could be trying to form an alliance with him? There's also an option here to have them meet Wrathion in his human form and not realise he's the dragon, if they're unaware he can shapeshift.

Can happily do monstery sex later, but build-up works best to make sure the chemistry is working. ]

Daenerys had been chosen as trubute to appease the Destroyer. It was said her family line had once borne the blood of dragons themselves, and the people of her village hoped that such a gift might abate Deathwing's murderous rage. She'd been cloistered to undergo the ritual preparations for sacrifice, but before the appointment ted time had come, the dragon had been brought down, and another had risen in his place.

They said Wrathion was calmer, more rational, but there were those who still feared any creature powerful enough to take down Deathwing the Destroyer. Feared that he might one day succumb to the same insanity and bloodless that consumed his predecessor.

Though she had yet to meet this dragon, or any other, Daenerys could not help but empathize with him. Her own father had lost his mind, and with it, his standing among the elders. Daenerys had heard whispers among the people, blaming the Targaryen's draconic ancestry for her father's illness, and speculating that she, too, might one day become as mad as he. She suspected that was part of the reason she'd been chosen to be sacrificed, and now that Deathwing was no more, the elders had elected to go ahead with the tribute, in order to curry favor with the new dragon.

So here she was, dressed in a wedding gown and bound with strong, yet delicate mithral chains to the altar that had been erected partway up the mountain above the village. Anxiously awaiting her fate.

Should he be nervous to be offered as a dragon's price for continued safety and prosperity of his sect? Maybe. Others before him have been.

But Lan Xichen has been raised to do what he believes is right, and that includes making this sacrifice. So when it's time be presented, his smile doesn't dim or vanish, and he speaks and acts just as he always does. He bathes meticulously before being dressed and prepared for the dragon. Every inch of him is made as perfect as possible.

His feet aren't allowed to touch the ground for the carriage ride, and he spends the time in meditation, calming his mind and spirit. The time washes over him, and only the sense of something powerful and wild approaching pulls him to full awareness. He knows the carriage driver has already left on the horse that had pulled the elegant carriage - they won't be back.

The curtains remain in place, and he remains still as he waits, though his eyes are open and a gentle smile remains curling his lips.

[Dragon, wherein we're using "dragon" as a stand-in word for "extremely powerful magician living in that giant house across the lake; his predecessor was a nightmare so we're just working off the assumption he will be, too." Canonically his grandfather visited multiple worlds and poisoned at least one king in one of them, on top of never bothering to hide high tech in low tech worlds, so in this theoretical the villagers very much look at that house on the hill that appeared there one day and think not only is it magic, it's magic and the magic wielders probably come from an unkind place. Zak's tendency to hide away has only made these rumors grow, as he's almost never left the house and certainly hasn't tried too hard to correct them. His disdain for eye contact and having his face looked at somehow got twisted into 'don't look at him directly, it'll end horribly, something something curse something something magic' by the locals.

Open to both M/M and M/F, as well as cross medium, cross canon, OCs, etc. Would love some scenario where he didn't ask for a bride but the village gave him one anyway, probably in the hopes this would keep him from doing them harm.]

Meredith always knew her fate was going to be a cruel one, one way or another, for she was a sickly child who never became stronger even as she blossomed into womanhood. While she could spin and weave, her fingers did not cooperate for delicate needlework, and she couldn't carry too much, and she walked slow and with a cane.

Perhaps the villagers thought they were doing her a kindness, that the magician across the lake might know what to make of her ailments. Or perhaps they simply wanted to be rid of a village girl who was more trouble than she was worth. Either way, one morning her mother told her to pack her things, and Fedor the blacksmith, one of the strongest men in town, rowed her across the lake, depositing her at the front door of that great big house.

Now she stands in front of the door, debating whether it would bring her village more shame if she ran than if she knocks.
