Big Doof: I choose you

The um. Boss says it’s probably going to be a while. They didn’t say why.

[Abner Krill is covered from head to toe in polka dots. A polka dot cowl and a pair of red tinted goggles hide almost all of his face, leaving only his mouth and nose visible. He still manages to give off the impression of sad watery eyes; like a dog that has been kicked more than once and knows it isn’t long until he will be kicked again. He fiddles with his gauntlets, and glances around the dusty, abandoned storage room where they are meant to wait for The Signal. It’s a fairly run of the mill museum heist. Abner isn’t even completely clear on what it is they’re stealing. It doesn’t matter. He’s not there to steal it; just make holes in walls and vaults so someone else can. And if any guards get it the way, well…

Well.

Abner hopes they don’t. He blinks behind his goggles at his current partner in crime.]

You, uh, don’t have playing card based superpowers, do you?

[He doesn’t look like he does; looks like he’s there to put holes in things too. With his fists. But you never know. Playing card based powers are like the herpes of the supervillain set.]

[ Being Big Doof is a special treat J'onn gives himself occasionally. If he's had a hard mission, saving the day from the saving the world from the Darkseids, Desperos and Doomsdays of the world, it's time for the doof. Sure, it is useful to amass insider knowledge of the underworld and the workings of the criminal mind. But it's also fun to just be... doofy.

Hence why J'onn was presently embracing his inner idiot by experimentally swishing a mop back and forth, just for the simple joy of watching the strings flop over. Of course, even in Big Doof's shape, he has at least two of his fifteen senses looking out for trouble. Passively scanning the minds of his 'partners in crime', occasionally making them prematurely end thought processes that start 'why did we get Big Doof for this job again?'

He lets Abner's question hang for a few seconds before looking away from the mop. He pointedly does not raised his gaze. This identity is the only one larger than his usual look, a towering eight-foot-tall. almost that wide. ]

Nah! I'm big. That's why I'm called Big Doof, see?

[ To illustrate, in case Abner missed it, J'onn puffs up his chest with hands on his hips, a proud smile on his face. A little more chest hair spills out as he does. ]

( today is a beautiful day in san francisco and scott is a horrible man.

at the kitchen table in his apartment overlooking the bay, scott finds himself playing operation against the world's former most dangerous assassin and captain america's bff, bucky barnes. if he had known barnes was in his neck of the woods, he would've had more manly stuff out, like whiskey and knives and other manly stuff that scott totally knows about, not a pile of board games left out from last night's game night with cassie.

with his head resting against the flat of his palm, scott starts to doze off. the buzz of game jolts him awake. he checks his phone, idly noting the time and day, and glances at how far barnes has come in four minutes. answer: still on the same piece. ironically, it's the brain freeze. ) It's cool. Take your time.

( they'd agreed he wouldn't use the vibranium arm. shuri made it impeccably perfect, exact in a way that defeated the purpose of the game since it could also shift in ways that bones naturally could not. and because bucky is now far too used to using the left arm for precision-work, his right hand could use more practice. in fact, that's why he'd agreed to this game at all, aside from the fact it sounded kind of dumb and not that hard, but actually — actually actually — there might be some regret, and bucky might now officially hate this.

scott makes a patronizing remark. bucky wants to spit something sarcastic back, but he can't talk without his chest moving and then his arm moving and then the tweezers moving — and then he's just fucked.

the grip on the tweezers snaps and the piece falls back in. the soldier withdraws his hand then, brow furrowed. ) Shit.

[ It's undoubtedly bizarre to hear the terse, all business detective John Jones reading the back of a game box. Even without knowing he's actually a shapeshifting Martian. Normally on game night at the bar, John plays solitaire. Sometimes chess or poker. Serious games, for a serious man, played seriously.

Unfortunately, today all the packs and games are taken, leaving one that needs another player. ]

Kick up some fun with this exciting never-know-when-he's-gonna-buck stacking game. Load up the mule with a blanket, saddle, and more—but be gentle or he might buck it all off. ( bucky wanders in a bit later than usual, having gotten a call from sam that lasted longer than he would have liked. that's why he shows up when the games are all gone, and he's left with asking the bartender if maybe there's anything else to spare? perhaps behind the counter?

the soldier is gestured toward a guy dressed ready for a case. last one that was picked apparently. well, he can probably work with that.

walking over, he offers a nod, barely catching the end of the flat read of the back of the box, and hovering toward the seat. )

Jack said you got the last game? That it needs two people or something. Need another player still?

[ He ate a can of tuna and some trail mix, drinking water then falling asleep on the couch for an hour or two. Diego wasn't sure of the time. He'd woken up suddenly, dreaming of the time jump he was in with his siblings. The ache of his stitches reminded him of where he was.

A hand rubbed the sleep off of his eyes before he spotted a deck of cards. Diego grabbed the glass of water he'd been drinking and finished it off. ]

And when a young lady is hitchhiking at twilight, in a lonely stretch of road? A caring guy like J'onn doesn't hesitate.

But it is somewhat awkward driving with an unknown person, and the Mike Sherman persona lets his friendliness and playful nature free. So after a while, he speaks up- ]
