Reki's hair was a mess. It always was, but it was messier than usual, even with his hair down. It looked nice. "You growing your hair out or something?" he asked, eyeing the redlocks as Reki glupped down his (gross) soda pop.
He had tried to switch his drink with the soda again, but Reki had gotten good at avoiding it. It was fine, he guessed, but he wanted to help Reki be in the best shape he could be!
He felt himself frown (not pout!) and looked away, before he could be caught staring or something. Because he wasn't!
Except he kinda was. When had he noticed Reki was pretty? It seemed like just the other day Reki was just another guy. A goof, a friend. And now he was pretty, and Miya couldn't stop noticing.
They were at a skatepark, resting as the sun shone over head and it became too hot to do anything, no one else was skating at the moment, most having taken their boards and gone home, so it was just them and a couple of kids younger than Miya on the other side of the park, siblings, an older brother trying to show his younger brother how to keep balance on the board. Used to be that's how Miya thought of Reki. A big brother type figure in his life when he needed friends. But he no longer thought of Reki like that. Langa, Shadow, Joe, and Cherry he still thought of as big brother figures, but Reki had moved from that and squarely into crush territory.
And it sucked. Because now he was paying attention to everything Reki did! There was something there now that hadn't been before the final in the S tournament, but sometime after that. He wished he knew when his brain had flipped its crush switch on because he wanted to turn it off again. Ugh. It was stupid! Just this past week he had found himself wanting to hold Reki's hand as they walked, or wishing Langa would go away to let him and Reki have some time together.
It was annoying. He liked Langa! And holding hands was probably gross because it was summer and hot and they'd both be sweaty.
Not being able to help himself, he snuck a look at Reki, eyes going to those red locks again.

[Shirabu came to Shiratorizawa for Ushijima. It's not an overstatement, it's the literal truth. He makes no attempt to hide that fact. Was it all on the basis of volleyball? Well, not entirely, and Shirabu hasn't been as open about that part... but most people tend to carry their own low-key suspicions, particularly teammates. By all appearances, Shirabu exists to orbit Ushijima and has eyes for no other human being alive.
And yet...
The thing is, hero worship isn't a great way to form an emotional connection with someone. While Shirabu doesn't cool on Ushijima at all, he finds himself warming to people he wouldn't expect - the single most unexpected of these being Tendou Satori. He swoops around the gym and club room like a big, gangly wading bird, needles and encourages everyone in equal measure, then leaves each individual person to decide what they think of him and seems impervious to their decision either way. Shirabu found him unbearable for much of his first year and still has no idea when that began to shift or how it shifted so drastically in the opposite direction. Sometimes he finds his own emotional reactions to Tendou dubious and becomes convinced that he's just transferred his crush onto the person who's always closest to Ushijima.
But even when he's in that state of mind, he still finds himself doing whatever little favours he can for Tendou during practices. He "just happens" to have things around that Tendou will like: an issue of Shonen Jump that a misguided friend gave to him as a gift, or a particular chocolate bar he accidentally got from a vending machine when he wanted something else, or the like. He doesn't know if this behaviour has become as transparent as his raw admiration for Ushijima, only hopes that the idea is too ludicrous for anyone to entertain for very long. It's still too ludicrous for him to entertain.]

[They're in the club room together after practice, the last two to get their things together and leave (Ushijima is, of course, waiting elsewhere for Tendou), when Shirabu pulls a little figurine out of his bag and hands it to him. He doesn't know the character's name but it's someone from a Shonen Jump series, he knows that much.] My brother got this from a capsule machine a few days ago and gave it to me because it wasn't the one he wanted. Is he from any of your series?
[He tries to seem casual, almost disinterested in the exchange. Just take it off his hands, please. In reality, he chose it from a store himself]
