Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Chengling hadn't liked the idea of an arranged marriage the first time it had come up and the second time he doesn't feel much better about it at all. He's grown up since then and a lot has happened and he's carrying on three disciplines. He couldn't argue with Shifu anyway. If he said it is for the best then it is for the best.

So the marriage has come and gone. It wasn't too elaborate a ceremony -- nothing like Gu Xiang and Cao Weining's wedding. No, this had been simpler.

Chengling had still hated it.

Months later they're still getting to know one another. This is the first time, however, that Chengling is coming to Gusu. He's heard a lot of rumors -- Wen Kexing complained about all the rules to him just that morning.

It's a strange sort of honeymoon period for the two of them. They've spent the better part of the last month in a large estate house out in the countryside. Tensions were already running too high with this new alliance, so it was decided by both families that they would remain here for six months out of the year, away from the influence of both vampire and Belmont.

There were large, sprawling fields, human servants, everything they needed to be proper lords of this house. There were no slaves or thralls, every living soul were paid for their work and labor.

Alucard is like a ghost. It's nearly impossible to pin down his location. He wanders through the corridors, often with a book in hand or a faraway look on his face. Sometimes he's out in the courtyard, training with that strange and absurdly long sword of his. A weapon so large and heavy it would need to be wielded with two hands for any mortal, including Trevor, but the dhampir only seemed to need just one hand. The other is often behind his back when he deals a swift parry or thrust at a target.

He's shirtless and sweat seems to glisten on the pale expanse of his chest and brow. His build is quite slender, almost lithe, especially compared to the Belmont heir. It's as if he's pure alabaster stone come to life. His body is all sharp angles with elegance somehow packed into every move and gesture.

He's aware that he's being watched.

[ It's not the worst planet Leonard's gotten himself stranded in, not by a long shot. It's definitely nowhere near the unfriendliest, in fact the locals have been incredibly welcoming considering he and his companion were obviously not from around. Around being a loosely applied term, as the people on this planet have no concept of space travel, and as such he's been forced to respect the Prime Directive and instead pretend he's just from another land far away.

That's one part of the issue, here; the other part of the issue is that it's been about three months now (by his calculations) and the Enterprise hasn't been able to contact them yet, or send anyone in to get them out. Leonard expected a few days, couple weeks at most, but certainly not months. Last but not least, there is some strange cultural issue they've had to deal with. Adult unmarried men are just generally very frowned upon, which... well, has led to their current situation.

Arranging a fake marriage has certainly been a first for him, so there's that. Also the little cottage they were generously given by the locals is perfectly lovely, but little is definitely the word, not even a second bed where he can sleep. He's been making do with a few blankets on the floor, but he's not a kid anymore, and every so often his muscles protest the treatment. Between his sleeping arrangements and participating in the community duties, which range from cleaning to fishing or farming, his neck and shoulders have been acting up spectacularly, and he's currently struggling with a shoulder ache that's making it difficult to even lift his arm.

Taking a break while he waits for Zelda to come back to the house, he's sitting with a hot cup of a popular local drink, eyes closed and head resting against the back of his seat, trying to relax the muscles that have been aching all day long. ]

( this was why she didn't leave the library but... given recent events and needing to rebuild she'd been encouraged to take this trip. granted there was information on the other side of it that would have been incredibly useful but no one had factored in her being stuck on this world, unable to get back to the library as the portal was on another world entirely and--

well. it hadn't been zelda's day when that happened. or months after that. and then it had gotten even more complicated. she'd gone along with it all, using the time she was stuck there to try and plan how to get back to the portal but it wasn't easy. at least leonard had been gracious about giving her space, and though she felt bad that he'd been having to sleep on the floor she hadn't really pressed for him to change that after his initial refusal to her offer of swapping or sharing the bed.

it's how that day her tasks had ended up focused on him, taking her mind off her research and finding something to help him. a little magic, a little of the local herbs, something put together when no one had been around before taking it back to the cottage. and with how peaceful he looks with his eyes closed attempting to relax... she hates to disturb him but maybe she can help him actually relax )

I brought something for you. I know you've kept it to yourself ( aside from grumbles she'd caught ) but sleeping on the floor and your work can't be easy. Hopefully it can help.

The Zenin and Gojou families. They are two of the most well known names around, and as a result they've made an alliance. The terms of the alliance were working together, the proof of commitment was given by arranging a marriage. Somehow, for reasons that are beyond Satoru, he's been involved in this. It's not like being seen as an object is new to him, the expectations set upon his head have been made clear to him from birth. But to actually be cast forth, bargained as a poker chip to satisfy a family that quite frankly, was full of people with a hell of an attitude? No, that wouldn't do at all.

But they just chalk up his refusal to 'being a brat'. They don't understand he has actual reasons to be against this - it's not just a whim or defiance for the sake of it. Satoru is too young to really fight back when it comes to his family. The only choice is give in or run away, and he's not willing to sacrifice the advantages he gets by staying here.

So, there's an arranged meeting. He's been told absolutely nothing about the person he's intended to marry, therefore he has no idea what to expect. He's been shoved into nice clothes and cleaned up. He's not even allowed his sunglasses, so his bare eyes are there for all to see.

That doesn't mean he shows up on time, one of his little rebellions. An hour late is when he slumps into the Zenin house, feeling satisfied with throwing a cog into the works. Being guided to some room deep in this place, he has to swallow slight nervousness that's popped up. The door is opened before he can protest and he looks inside, finally being confronted with the person he apparently has to deal with the rest of his life.

"I know I'm late," he says, somehow managing an even tone. "Sorry not sorry."
