Getting to Know You Through Someone Else Meme



Sometimes, in order to get to know a person better, you have to talk to other people that person knows. Friends, family, co-workers, even bitter enemies -- all of them can be valuable resources to gather information about the person in question. As such, this meme is a little different in that the original tagger will not be playing themselves.

Instructions
1. To start, post your character with their name, series, and preferences in the subject line. Instead of leaving the comment field blank, make a list of characters you're willing to play who know your character. It could be family members, friends, or even NPC's who've just seen that character around.
2. Tag somebody with a prompt taken from the list below, or make up your own, and indicate which contact you're seeking.
3. Thread it up!
4. Optional: Once you've got what you need to know, go talk to the original character and make use of that information!


1. Getting to Know You - You want to know more about this person before you actually initiate contact. What better way to access that information than to talk to someone who knows that character better than anyone else?

2. Health/Physical Inquiries - There's something about this person's health that concerns you. Or maybe they're a different race, and you want to know more about their genetics or customs. What does it mean to be human? HOW DO YOU GIRL?

3. Investigating the Blues - That person seems down, but they just won't tell you what's going on. Is it something to do with their childhood? A painful secret from their past? If they won't give you answers, you'll find someone who will.

4. Romantic Advice - Somebody intrigues you enough that you want to ask them out. Or maybe you're already together, and you want to plan a special night out without ruining the surprise. Ask someone who's in the know about what makes that person's heart go pitter-pat.

5. RANT RANT RANT - Argh, that person drives you crazy! You need to vent to somebody, so you seek out someone who would understand your need to let off some steam, or maybe to just explain why that person does the things they do.

6. Permission - You're preparing to pop the question, but before you do, isn't there a certain authority figure you need to approach first to request consent and a blessing?

7. Gossip - Sometimes it's nice just to casually gab about a mutual acquaintance. You might learn something new about that person in the process.

8. Evaluation - Perhaps you're considering this person for a job, special assignment, or unique duty...or even as a potential spouse. But before you can give the stamp of approval, you'll need to contact a trusted reference to see what they think.

9. Blackmail/Revenge - It may be rage, it may be a wish to exert your power over them. Whatever the case, you need the appropriate information to make them do exactly what you want them to do, or to hit them where it hurts.

10. Enough About You, Let's Talk About Me Some More! - Maybe you just can't figure out how they really feel, or you're getting mixed signals. It would be nice to know where you stood with this person, so you'd better ask the person they talk to most.

Sora Inoue - Orihime's older brother by about 12 years. Can be alive, or a spirit.
Tatsuki Arisawa - Orihime's best friend, a girl the same age as Orihime who's known her the longest.
Orihime's Aunt - She provides for Orihime from afar. As such, she knows a lot about Orihime's blood relations, and a fair amount about Orihime as well.
Other Castmates - I can't guarantee I'll be the best player of that character ever, but if there's someone in particular you want, I'll do my best!

So here was Amanda, sipping her tea at a booth, waiting for the young woman to appear.]

[Amanda doesn't have to wait long. Orihime arrives a few minutes before the appointed time. Her eagerness at meeting Spock's mother is obvious to the observant -- ordinarily she would glance at the cafe menu over the counter to see what's available, or glance at the revolving display of sweets. Instead she scans the tables immediately. Her eyes meet Amanda's, and she knows: that's her. There's a profound similarity in the eyes, and she's almost entirely certain that this lady is Spock's human mother.]

[Shedding her coat, Orihime approaches swiftly, trying not to look too excited.]

Anou...Grayson-san?

[She wasn't sure if it was Ms. or Mrs., so she went with the more neutral Japanese familiarity.]

Hello dear. [The woman's voice was gentle, and kind. Her eyes though were full of mischief and excitement.]

[Amanda held out her hand in an American greeting.] It is wonderful to finally meet you Orihime.

[Orihime likes her immediately. Even if she weren't Spock's mother, Orihime's sure they would be friends. She starts to bow, and stops herself upon seeing the hand, shaking it instead.]

It's really nice to meet you too, Amanda-san! I've been looking forward to meeting you!

[Orihime settles into the booth, laying down her coat.]

I don't reallly know where to start, ha ha!

[Amanda's movements are like water as she leans forward and places her head in her hand...

She regards Orihime with a twinkle in her eyes.]

Let us start with your reasons for wanting to meet with me hmm? It can be difficult to date a Vulcan.

[She won't lie about that. It would be nice to talk to someone who's been through the same sorts of obstacles and curiosities found when a human woman dates a Vulcan male.]

But also...you're important to Spock-san. And he's important to me. So there's a little part of me that also wants to make sure I'm treating him the way you think he should be treated.

[Amanda laughs, soft and gentle.]

You are a very sweet girl, I can see why he likes you.

Spock might be... difficult. Sarek was a very attentive boyfriend, and is a wonderful husband, but he is a full-blooded Vulcan. He had no qualms about his identity.

Spock though... he overcompensates.

[Phil had known the instant she saw Virgil Potts standing at attention at the back of the room of Tony Stark's press conference that she had found herself an ally. It was written in the tilt of his eyebrows, the fond exasperated quirk to his mouth as he watched his boss spout off on stage, the ramrod straightness of his spine. Here was someone she could relate to. She had made a mental note to investigate this potential asset as soon as she got back to her computer and then strode over to hand over her business card.

Now, years later, she doesn't have to google Virgil to find things out about him; they meet for coffee whenever their schedules allow it. Admittedly, that means it's not that often, but Phil always enjoys it when they manage to squeeze in some social time outside of the office.

Today, of all days, this proves to be especially true.

She's too composed to fling her briefcase onto the floor and collapse into the little bistro chair outside of their regular cafe, but it looks mighty tempting. Instead, she just lowers herself into the wrought-iron chair and sighs heavily, tucking her briefcase under the table and giving Virgil a weak smile as she brushes her bangs back into place with a rake of her fingers.] Hi, Pepper. Sorry I'm late.

[When he sees her, he knows Phil's having a hard time lately. He suspects it's because of Tony. There's a certain look Phil gets when she's been dealing with his boss.

He pushes the coffee he ordered for her over to her side of the table.] What's he done now?

[She groans heartily and reaches out to snatch the porcelain mug off the table and cradle it close to her chest. He gets the full-on aggrieved puppy eyes look over the rim as she takes a fortifying sip.]

What hasn't he done is more accurate a question.

[He frowns as he thinks over Tony's calendar.]
