Sweets were one thing--that he also, sometimes, did not care for--but it was the tradition itself that got him: It left you with an obligation to return the favor once the next month rolled around. And outside of school it was a lot harder to dump the candy elsewhere, on someone else, and pretend it had gotten lost somewhere in delivery.
