The HOLY GRAIL WAR Meme

Seven Masters, magi of the present day. Seven Servants, heroes of days past.
One Holy Grail, granting whomever claims it a wish. Only one team of Master and Servant may claim it.
Who will it be?
For those unfamiliar with Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero, you can find a better explanation of the Holy Grail War here. (Note: The Holy Grail War in Fate/EXTRA functions in a dramatically different way, and one not followed for purposes of this meme.)


Instructions
1. Comment with your character. In the subject line, put that character's name, canon, and which role (Master, Servant, or either) you would like them to fulfill. Add other preferences if you would like. (NOTE: If your character can fill the role of Servant, I suggest you state which class(es) -- Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker -- they fall into.)
2. Reply to others' comments. Pick your character's role (and the other character's if they list "Either" as their preference), then use the RNG to pick a scenario that fits the two characters' roles.
3. Enjoy! Though there might be triggers, depending on how the prompts are interpreted.


TWO MASTERS


1. Battle. Who says that Servants get to have all the fun? After all, most Masters try to kill each other, too. Whatever the circumstances, the two of you are locked in a fight. Neither of you are willing to use your Command Spells just yet, so no Servants here. Just two magi duking it out.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. Protection. Uh-oh! One of you has lost your Servant! Unfortunately, there's no way you'd get to the church safely on your own, so the other one will help you get there! Or maybe you don't trust the priest presiding over the Holy Grail War and are giving shelter to them yourself? Given their track record, no one would blame you.

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. You, Too? Surprise! You may have been friends before, but you've just discovered that you're both Masters! How will you handle this revelation?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


MASTER AND SERVANT


1. Are You My Master? The summoning is complete. Whether intentional or not, catalyst or not, a magus has summoned a Servant. What kind of meeting was it? Was everything totally under control, or did a hitch occur? Or maybe it happened in the middle of a life-or-death situation!

2. Identity. Either the Servant has flat out told the Master their identity, or they unleashed their Noble Phantasm. Either way, the cat is out of the bag. How will the Master react, now that they know their Servant's name and legend? Will anything change between the two?

3. Battle Aftermath. A battle has just ended. Who participated? Are either of you hurt? Did the Master have to use a Command Spell? Any number of things could have happened here.

4. Discord. Uh-oh. It looks like the Master and the Servant don't get along. Here come the arguments! Don't do something stupid, like waste a Command Spell over a triviality...

5. Love. And then, there's the opposite. Sometimes Masters and Servants fall in love with each other. How will this affect things?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


TWO SERVANTS


1. Battle. This is what usually happens when two Servants meet -- they duke it out. This probably says enough as it is.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. The Grail Dialogues. Maybe you're not interested in fighting just yet. Maybe you just want to sit down and talk with the other Servant. Find out what they want, what makes them tick. Get some wine while you're at it -- nothing like good wine to go with good talk!

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying...again. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in this War in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. Identity. Congratulations, you've just learned each other's identities! Will this change the situation, or will you press onward?

[ A Servant. She is of the "fictional servant" variety, like Nursery Rhyme and Sherlock. Monika was inscribed in the Throne of Heroes by becoming associated with the concept of Sentient Video Game Characters & AIs in the far future. Because she is one of the exceedingly rare future Servant, exists entirely in the digital space and is fictional, there are no relics related to her. That means she's only summonable through either the Chaldea system, or by a Master who makes a mistake in the summoning process / doesn't use a relic.

She comes in three different flavor:

Caster: Her default form. Canon point is post-ending. Her skills revolves entirely around manipulating the enemy Servant's Saint Graphs the same way she would manipulate character file. That makes her absolutely useless against non-Servant characters but excellent against other Servants. In FGO terms, she's essentially a 4-stars.

Foreigner: Her alternate form. Canon point is immediately after her epiphany but before DDLC even began, though she's familiar with the rest of her story. Her skills are less broken than those of her Caster form, but she's actually useful against non-Servants. In FGO terms, she's essentially an event 4-stars freebie.

Moon Cancer (Alter): Canon point is Act 3, though she's familiar with the rest of her story. On top of behaving like her Act 3 self, all her negative traits are being amplified tenfold (extremely love-obsessed with her Master, no care for deleting other servants, suffers from extreme self-loathing). Also comes with a dashing silver hair dye and neat red contact lenses. Much more powerful than either of her other variants. In FGO terms, that makes her a limited 5-stars Servant.

In every cases, her wish is to be allowed to live in the real world. Not a second life, but just a life since she was never really alive to begin with. ]

[They were an odd mismatch, this Master and Servant; the quiet, composed magess who didn't even want to be here, really, but had summoned to her side a Berserker who took wild delight in plunging headfirst into battle. It would be a lie to say Utage was never frustrated with her Master's restraint. But--perhaps precisely because she'd been summoned by a woman like Sasha--Utage was herself remarkably composed for a Berserker, in that she was still capable of conversation and rational thought. Her Madness Enhancement had not destroyed her mind, only strengthened her violent tendencies.

And that had given her room to come to really like her Master, despite their differences and despite her difficulty with showing her appreciation. Tonight, for instance, she had faced off against Assassin and come away from the exchange rather the worse for wear, more than even her ability to bounce back from wounds could easily handle. But even as Sasha tried to tend to her, Utage stubbornly tried to distract her Master, pinching her butt, even copping feels here and there.]

Honestly. I'm fine. Would I be doing this otherwise? Totally not, right?

[ She is the Servant--but not a rather obedient one. While Bernkastel will try and 'act' out the part of the perfect Servant in order to manipulate her Master, as it is much more interesting that way. In terms of summoning her, it is considered a miracle to do so, as she cannot be summoned by utilizing any normal catalysts.

Bernkastel is a Caster with several abilities.

The first is that she can transform into a cat at will--doing so uses less prana from the Master, similarly to spirit form.

The second is that her weapon of choice is a scythe. With this, she can utilize the power of the red and blue truths to attack her opponent. In this particular case, given that it isn't a mystery, any information that she knows about her opponent can be weaponized against them.

The third is her Noble Phantasm: "The Creation of a Miracle". This Noble Phantasm can be used at a whim's notice, and only if she wills it. Basically, it's not something that can force her hand. But because she's a servant, it's something that can only be used once a day.

Bernkastel doesn't really have a wish on the grail, she is simply here to be entertained by this Holy Grail War and potentially rip the proverbial guts of the truth behind it if necessary. Also, because her Noble Phantasm is what it is, it is possible for characters to encounter her Master-less with no problems - something similar to Medea in Fate/stay night. ]

[ master. the heir of a decently aged family of mages that specialize in what would be known as "possession" magecraft. in other words, they are capable of placing parts of their souls in inanimate objects (or animate beings, for short periods of time and if they can overwhelm the other's will). c-ta himself is a mage that has integrated himself into a normal lifestyle almost seamlessly, but should not be taken lightly...

although he might not have much motivation for this war in the first place. all he wants is for things to go back the way they were. ]

[ as a master--she is a very well trained magus. she is part of a renowned family of mages with a strong mixed bloodline, as hinamizawa was the land of demons and men, mion herself is a magus that possesses demon blood.

meakashi-hen spoilers, but: at a very young age--the two girls did a swap and the current mion ended up being the one to inherit the family crest.

she is rather skilled in reinforcement magic and knows how to use martial arts and - to the surprise of a lot of magi, weaponry such as swords and guns. mion herself is pretty much an all arounder. in terms of the grail war, mion participates in it as her family's duty and doesn't really have a wish--all she simply wants to do is to win; the wish is not for herself, but for her sister, shion.

as a servant, she is a ruler--she does not have a wish for herself, after all. her noble phantasm deals with the unrelenting love and trust she has in her friends, and the power that comes from that. of course, her weapons are also considered as 'noble phantasms'. ]

[As far as Servants go, Assassin probably isn't what Mion was expecting. She hardly looks or acts the part, for one. Assassin is a young girl, probably a bit older than Mion (depending on canon point), who seems surprised at being summoned at all. As she put it,

"Ahaha. I'm not sure I'm really qualified for this sort of thing, but I'll do my best anyways, Master! ...man, it feels weird to say that."

The second oddity is her Noble Phantasm. You might expect some elegant sword or dagger or bow to be an Assassin's favored weapon, but that couldn't be further from the truth for Mion's new Servant. It's a massive, cross-shaped shield inscribed with runes, and it's what's currently taking up all of Assassin's attention as she sits out on the porch, tracing the runes with her index finger.]

As a Master, she would be the runaway daughter of a magus family that was "blessed with the divine" which resulted in her being born with wings. Though she later rebelled and is working on usurping them, especially the patriarch aka her father. Might be a homunculus. Very bold and brash, and happily throws herself into battle alongside her Servant. She also doesn't have a wish, as she also aims to try destroying the Holy Grail...

As a Servant, she would be a Foreigner. Tainted half-angel turned god killer with her found family, and some stories might speak about how she eventually become the consort of a primordial god who shunned his duty... Highkey troll and menace, though will still do her best to protect her Master. Will not be a fan of the Church Overseers at all, and will just generally enable her Master in the worst ways.

Would be more inclined to do her own thing most of the time, but would assist her Master if she felt it would be beneficial. Very easygoing and confident - 'Persephone' isn't her true name but she will only address herself with that. Also a tease and doesn't seem as strong as she actually is.

Would also never call her Master 'Master', given name or nicknames only.

His Noble Phantasm, "Pull of Yomi", summons a creature never fully seen except by those it pulls beneath the ground to attack, but should the target survive for a minute, they'll be spit back out and Adachi will be left vulnerable from the strain of summoning.

A lazy Servant who complains the whole way through, and if asked says he doesn't have a wish. Rack up enough Bond Points and that answer changes to "resting in peace, finally."

Bonus level, Foreigner. This would be Ameno-Sagiri using Adachi as a host, not Adachi himself. ]

[Servant. An extremely loyal and idealistic Outlier Cybertronian with extraordinary hearings and telepathic powers. Got inscribed in the Thrones of Heroes after the deed he had done to save Earth, if you wanna go down this route. Comes in three class flavors to choose from.

Caster or foreigner, canon point is past this point or post-finale. This version of Soundwave is more empathetic and least violent, trying to make amend for all the bad shit he's done during the war.

Assassin, robots in disguise He's the Soundwave from during the civil war. So he's typically colder, calculating, quieter, and unconcerned with the lives of anyone who isn't a Cybertronian (sans maybe his master if ranked up his bond enough).

His skills involve debuffing and disrupting enemy Servant via telepathic-based powers. For Caster version specifically, can summon spirit animals to replace the Casseticons friends he always relied on. Prolonged use will strain him.

His wish is for a world where all Cybertronian can stand as equals. For either caster or foreigner version, this extends to all other species too, mechs and organics. Can come in regular human-sized robot or 30 ft tall giant robot.]

[Upon his summoning, Moriarty immediately noted a few things.

First, that his master never physically spoke. Either elective mutism, or a physical injury. Either way, it hardly mattered when the man could speak with him mentally, at the very least.

Secondly, while this was Japan, it was not the Japan he was familiar with - no, it was one far in the past than the 1999 of shinjuku. Quaint, but with hints of what it would eventually become, with clothing that was interesting but still 'familiar' enough in a way for him.

(of course, he'd immediately switched his outfit to someone normal for the time period, opting to merely look like a 'nativized' foreigner.)

Of course, upon learning his Master was an 'apprentice detective' immediately made him curse internally, because was his fate ALWAYS going to tie him to some sort of Detective?!

Still, things had gone the way they normally would, in a grail war. Servants fighting and dying, though they kept a low profile. Which suited him just fine due to his particular habits, and, as he'd carefully explained one night - he was a more 'modern' Heroic spirit, and thus lacked the sheer firepower many Servants held.

(The phantasmal-esc cat continually near his master didn't believe him, but he had his own suspicions about the feline.)

....Which was proven a bald-faced lie as they were ambushed by a master and servant pair one night, and Moriarty not only finally showed his weapon and why he was an archer, but also -]

Master, I suggest you begin to run as quickly as you can away from here. My noble phantasm is a bit...large in the scale of it's damage.

[With that, he'd waited for a moment before releasing his Noble Phantasm - Dynamics of an Asteroid - causing the very earth beneath the feet of the enemy Servant and Master duo crumble away in a flash of glowing blue light.

...As well as a good swath of the area around them, and considering this is in a city...
