rescue romance. They saved you. It doesn't matter what from - captivity, danger, an unwanted "relationship," certain destruction - and, in the end, it doesn't even matter if they rescued you on purpose or if you were freed on accident, as an extension of what they do, as a duty, because you're a commodity, or just to screw with whoever had you in their clutches (the enemy of my enemy, and all that). A part of you feels like you owe them, despite it all. But soon enough, "feelings" become the problem. Like some kind of twisted yet somehow more positive version of Stockholm syndrome, your heart opens, you warm up, your emotions muddle...still, do they mirror you, or are is this another way for you to be hurt? Daniel had been studying some Ancient ruins, trying to piece together an obscure translation, when he'd encountered the woman in the pink dress. He'd scarcely introduced himself when he realized they were not alone, and though he had done his best to create a diversion, buying them time to evade her pursuers, he realized it was ultimately her knowledge of the catacombs that had saved them. He smiled sheepishly as they made their way to safety, unable to stop himself from stealing glances at the gorgeous girl.

"Thanks for your help back there," he said softly. "I'm sorry if I've caused you any extra trouble."

[ They'd brought him to Midgar this time. It was kind of ironic. The place they'd been trying to get to, only not in the way he would have ever wanted.

He hadn't wanted to leave Zack, had clung to his lifeless body until he'd been forcefully pried off of him and dragged away to one of Shinra's armoured trucks. Back to captivity, but instead of feeling fear and terror, this time he'd mostly felt numb. Without Zack who had been his last anchor to sanity, to life, nothing seemed to matter anymore. He'd lost everything and everyone. His mother, Tifa, Zack, his home... and now he'd probably die in Hojo's labs, as a test subject, forgotten by everyone. Worthless, weak, unable to keep the promise he'd made to Zack as he lay dying.

He isn't sure how long it's been now. Hojo was fascinated by the fact that he had survived and woke up from such a severe case of mako poisoning. He didn't put Cloud back into that tank (which he was initially thankful for, but he would soon wish again to sink into that comatose state), but the tests and procedures he performed ranged from mildly uncomfortable to excrutiatingly painful.

He's kept in a cell now, like an animal, with only a small bed, a sink and a toilet as company. He's delirious and out of it from another round of tests and experiments and whatever else Hojo's twisted little mind has conjured up, and so when he sees someone outside of his cell he thinks his eyes or mind are playing tricks on him.

Blearly eyes fixate on the figure, but his vision is swimming and he can't make out more than a vague shape of a tall man, and... is that a wing extending from one of his shoulders? Cloud furrows his brows together, but he can't keep his eyes open much longer and finally he passes out from exhaustion. ]
