The Should Never Be Together Meme

the "should never be together" meme. | ||
When two people come together in a relationship, it's a beautiful thing. What can be wrong with love, right? Right? Except when the union is completely and totally wrong, for whatever reason. Then things can get a little messy. How To Play 1. Comment with your character, listing their name, canon, etc, along with any preferences. 2. Comment around to others, using the RNG to determine the scenario. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey relationship, obviously. There can be hate, sorrow, lust, whatever. 3. Thread! Have fun! Do things! Scenarios 1. Warring Factions: You belong to rival organizations, armies, clubs, etc. Whatever it is, you're not on the same team. 2. Soldiers on the Battlefield: Or maybe you are on the same side, but this is the wrong time and the wrong place. Plus, attachments cause distractions. 3. Bodyguard and the Guarded: Just like the movie with Kevin Costner! One of you has been hired to protect the other for some reason, and feelings are starting to grow. Are you a professional and cut things off, or do you give in? 4. Prince/ss and Knight: Similar to the above, but with a whole 'nother level of wrong...one of you is royal. Courtly love is okay; still, don't forget your place. 5. Enemies: This vendetta is personal, and you totally hate this person! Don't you? Perhaps you're maybe just rivals, or something as serious as superhero and villain. 6. Family: The ultimate taboo. This person is related to you, so there's no way you should indulge this desire, even if it's the most pure love there ever was. 7. Age Difference: The years between you should keep you both at bay, but it's easier said than done. 10. Teacher/Student: Teachers and students have a unique bond, and to corrupt it is a dangerous thing. Will you dare to act on emotions that could put you both in a destructive place? 11. Already Spoken For: One or both of you are already involved with someone else, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just know that you can't have your cake and eat it, too. 12. Not Compatible: Your personalities or jobs make it so it's hard for you to be together. 13. Not Compatible...in Another Way: You're both different species, which means you're either afraid to take your relationship to a physical level or you can't because of differences in biologies. 14. Not Ready for Love: You took a vow (or celbacy, of chastity, of dedication), you're married to your work, or you just don't want to be involved with anyone. Too bad! 15. Rich and Poor: One of you has the money while the other is from more modest means. Can the 1% and the 99% ever be bedfellows, literally? 16. Hurt Before: Your heart has been broken, and maybe there's been no time to heal. But here you are. 17. WILDCARD |

10 and i am sadly rusty at her so i hope this works
much less with an instructor.
spock is all the things that she wants in a man: he is intelligent and calm, he respects her and her space and her ambitions and she has learned so much simply by following courses he teaches, by talking to him. he is also very much unavailable and that she wants him — something quiet that has grown into what she realises is more than a crush at this point and definitely more than just lust, something that has snuck up on her unexpected and denied for the longest time — doesn't matter.
she tells herself that, but it does nothing to calm her heartrate when she runs into him (not literally, fortunately) in the corridor on the way back to her quarters from the library. inclining her head in greeting. ]
Commander Spock.
it's lovely!
[ She earns his full attention, with ease. A nod, as he slows in step. His hands remain at his back, uniform crisp, no telling for what or where he comes. Halfway to a hesitance, he adds, ]
A word.
The position of aide for my advanced phonology class remains vacant. I was under the impression I would be receiving your application again. [ Spock has been--debating the merits of keeping this student so near. A consistent asset to his classes, to his time, his preferred assistant. Outstanding beyond the work she delivers, needless to say. Her conversation enlightening, her process engaging. Distracting. Her presence has become a deflection from other points of thought. He refuses to acknowledge signs and ways this may be reciprocal. He overlooks and reinterprets.
She deserves a career unmarred by his indiscretion.
The physical attraction does not disturb him. Vulcans are not without the inclination. It is the whole of the thing, weaving threads of things he cannot meditate away. She has earned every opportunity he can offer. She is refreshingly opportunistic. To deny her proximity to him would be suspicious, illogical. He is finding the appearance of neutrality more baffling every day. Spock has never had to establish lines in this means and manner, to ends he's not prepared to know. ]
One must reapply in the spring, per department standards. They would be fortunate to have you at their disposal.
oh, good. forever voicetesting tbh
Of course, Commander. [ She mirrors his posture, though her stance is a little looser than his. She admires his control, but she doesn't want the rigidity of his posture for herself. She isn't looking to becoming like him, after all, no matter how much she admires him. She doesn't want to become like him at all, but she does want him. ]
I have been thinking about it — [ She has: she's considered their dynamic, she's turned every single interaction between them over in her mind and sought to find some proof that she is imagining the possibilities between them, searching for something conclusive enough to allow her to put her own feelings aside for good. She hasn't found anything — though she's well aware that that doesn't mean that there is something between them but professionalism and a slowly growing companionship.
She straightens. It would be stupid to throw away this opportunity because she can't handle her own emotions, can't control herself. She's better than that. He's an instructor and she's a student and that means that even if her feelings were reciprocated, nothing could ever happen between them. If only she could convince her heart of that, too. ]
And I will be applying again before the deadline, sir. If the department will have me, I'd be pleased to take the position.
