There's someone trying to murder them, and Sara's 90% sure that they have the wrong person. Maybe 95% wrong, because this scrawny little kid with a head that's too big and ears that stick out, doesn't seem like he'd be able to hurt a fly, much less have no less than three assassins chasing him.

And Sara's intimately familiar with assassins, her own training in the profession probably the only thing keeping them alive right now. It certainly isn't the kid, who keeps picking up shit like garbage can lids that cover most of his body, and saying shit like, "They bullies Miss - we 'oughta stick it to 'em!" in a voice that sounds like it's just gotten out of the wrong end of a cold. Still, the little guy's nowhere near his double digits in years yet (probably), which makes hauling him out of danger a little more convenient.

Until he gets away from her while she javelin throws a broken piece of broom handle at their nearest pursuer, and the kid darts out into the street and right into a guy that's about 10 times bigger than he is.

[Maybe she's one of those mysterious gifts from Le Bail to the Le Domas family. It's what the family thinks when she just shows up in the middle of their house one night in the middle of their family game room. What else could they possibly think when a kid just shows up out of nowhere, with no signs of how she got there? She has their same dark features, and an intensity about her that seems to fit right in.

It's her gifts that make her unique. Rapid healing and claws that extend from her hands aren't really things people have, and they have no idea how to handle a little girl that could kill them without breaking a sweat. It's Aunt Helene that suggests Le Bail sent her as a test. They have to tame her, turn her into one of them.

That's probably how she ends up in Daniel's care. His father insists upon it after no one can get hold of Alex. She likes Daniel at least. He doesn't see her as a prize for the family the way his mother does. She's not a thing to him, something meant to be contained. She thinks he might actually see her as an eleven year old girl, desperate for safety and family.

He definitely at least sees her as someone fit to be spoiled. She's currently laying on her stomach atop a giant stuffed unicorn, wearing unicorn pajamas and slippers that he let her pick out. Everything for Laura is superheros and unicorns, and he indulges her every whim when it comes to material things. They're currently deep into a game of chess made of unicorn and fairy pieces, Daniel insisting that she learn to play games like the rest of the family.

She used to tell him she wasn't family.

Now she stares intensely over at him as she makes a move on the chess board. She's determined to be better at this than Georgie.]

Honestly, Nester hasn't really been that active in the town. He's the reclusive older man that lives by himself in a houseboat on the local lake. He comes in for groceries, barely talks to anyone, and leaves quickly. However, when the man comes into Storybrook that day, he hadn't been thinking he'd pick up anything but the few groceries he needs before disappearing back to his lake.

But there she is. The little girl he's seen about. He wonders where her parents are. He worries for her. He knows how things are in Storybrook. It's not the safest place for anyone that small to wonder about alone. Nester is absolutely not small, not truly. He remembers what he is, like so many others in town. He can become it again if he wants. He can keep the girl safe until he can locate her parents.

That's the reason why the kilted gentleman stops instead of keeping to his usual schedule. He stays where she can see him. He doesn't want to scare her with his deep, heavily accented voice. "Hello, little lass. Are you lost?"

[ooc: Rescued the Kid and Wandering Unsupervised are somewhat canon for Taiki, so I figured on a little bit of both... Taiki is a kirin able to bind monsters into his service, but the sight and smell of blood is rather toxic.]

The raid on the underground research facility had gone mostly as planned. The planted agents had managed to overload the security system within minutes, allowing the lab to be overtaken floor by floor with ease. Perhaps it was for that very reason that the rooms on the highest security ratings were viewed as irritating puzzle games by most of the team leaders. At least, until the most secured wing was unlocked.

It had obviously been prepared as a last stand with guards clustered throughout the hallways, but they were already dead from injuries caused by wild beasts or monsters. None had been left alive even though the machines and computers were untouched, there was just one air vent leading outside that showed signs of recent use... Barely large enough for a child to use.

It wouldn't take long for the soldiers tasked with sealing the perimeter from escapees reporting finding a boy with ill health not far from where the vent led. The boy was searched but had no traces of poison or weapons on him, in the end he was moved carefully into a well-guarded and isolated tent.

[So...this is happening. Katsuki hadn't expected this to be what Aizawa had in store for him when he said he had an important task for someone in the class to partake in, if they so chose. And of course he volunteered for it - sensei made it sound like it was some sort of intensive training course or something. Instead, he's left babysitting a kid on his one off day. The kid that was kept a UA after being rescue from those yakuza bastards...

The raid he couldn't go on because he was too busy taking his fucking remedial course to get his goddamn, motherfucking Provisional License because he failed to get it the first time. Katsuki takes a deep breath in, steeling himself for a long as hell fucking day. He doesn't do this crap. He isn't kind, or personable, or gentle, or any of the shit a kid needs and deserves. This one only gets a more muted response from his pisspoor attitude because Katsuki has at least some modicum of decency in him, and he knows this brat went through hell and back.

In a way, he kind of relates to her. A rescue mission...to save her from a group of shitty villains. Ending with something irreversible happening to a Hero. ...Yeah. He can fucking relate. In that way, he's determined to make this day enjoyable at least for the kid.

And to rub Aizawa and that loser Deku's goddamn noses it in when she tells them all how awesome and fun a time she had. With him. That's fucking right, losers, he's not going to be beat by this. FUCKING WATCH HIM!!]

[Sometimes bad things happen and adults can't be trusted. When adults in labs take innocent children and turn them into weapons, it's not much of a surprise that those children have some adult related trust issues when they finally are free.

When Laura and Eleven run into each other, it's less a matter of needing companionship as it is wanting to protect someone that was like themselves. Fighting together comes naturally, and it isn't long before they're inseparable.

Sometimes adults don't need to take care of children. Sometimes children find each other and form a family unit so strong that nothing can tear them apart. Laura doesn't ever question that Eleven is her sister. Family doesn't have to be blood.

Family means spending nights out camping at the park because you have nowhere to stay, and shoplifting all their newfound favorite foods from the store. Tonight's specialty is Eggo waffles toasted over an open fire. They've worked hard to get the flames going, and Laura has a single claw extended with two waffles stabbed through. She's busy cooking them over the fire for them.]
