true to myself

A Gen or Shipping Meme
You have a secret that you've been keeping from those closest to you. It could be a terrible power, a dark past, an illness, a hidden life. You know that to tell the truth about yourself is to risk absolutely everything. Not only would they (rightfully) question the very idea of staying with you - it isn't safe, it isn't sane - but you've kept it from them so long. How could they possibly trust you again?
But at the same time... this secret is eating you up inside. You love them, all of them. Every perfection and every flaw. All you've ever wanted is for someone to care for you completely in that same way, and maybe, just maybe... you can have that with them.
So, do you have what it takes to be vulnerable? Can you find the courage to be true to yourself, and to the people you love?
How to Play
1. Top level with a brief description of your character and what their secret might be.
2. Don't forget your preferences! (gen or shipping, etc)

Gen, shipping, anything is fine. It can be one of J'onn's existing identities or one made up for the thread, it's all good.

Ash has a very dark past. We can go with assumed CR and confession thread, but something he doesn't admit to himself is how very human he still is. It's easier for him to pretend he's a cold, uncaring murderer that isn't affected by the pain he experiences, but it isn't true.
More information about said past can be found under 'warnings'. )

Re: Remus Lupin | Those books written by She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named
As for this thread, I’ve always headcanoned that Remus basically lives an itinerant life when he’s not employed at Hogwarts, never staying in one place for long and picking up Muggle jobs wherever he goes. The general cost of living seems to be a lot cheaper in the Muggle world, anyway! He’s always tied at least a bit to the wizarding world no matter where he goes because only wizarding medicine can help him repair the damage he inflicts on himself during monthly transformations. But most of the time, he can live entirely in Muggle society. Is there a particular place you want them to meet?]

We could have them meet at a flea market/secondhand shop? Or over a cup of tea in a cafe?]

[It's a small coffee shop somewhere in Islington - the kind of place that's too small to sit on any of the main shopping thoroughfaires, too small even for the sidestreets that crowd in around the shopping district, full of the up-and-coming cafes and shops that battle amongst themselves for promotion to the main drag. This cafe is not up-and-coming; it's down near the bottom and not likely to move up or down any time soon. It's owned by an elderly couple who have lived above the premises since the end of the war - the Muggle war, not the wizarding one - and supposedly they've sold the same tea, coffee and pastries since war rationing was lifted. The place is clean, definitely: it's rare that you can't see at least one of the two or three employees cleaning the floor, windows, counter, or various implements of the tea-brewing art at any given time. But it's definitely not what you'd call trendy.
Remus certainly doesn't come to Islington just to visit this place; he never remembers it's even there until he passes it on his way somewhere else. But whenever he is in Islington for some reason, he always manages to find his way back. Back to the dim yellow lighting, plastic-covered tables and carefully-maintained but elderly mugs, plates and utensils, back to the very cheap but really very bad tea. One might almost think the place has some kind of magic to it.
Not that Remus is expecting any magic right now. He's very definitely in the Muggle world today, just as he has been for the past few weeks. Just as he will be until next week, when he will be forcibly dragged back to the wizarding world for the few days it takes to turn into a mindless monster and back again, piece himself back together, and then buy next month's round of pain-killing, blood-replenishing, wound-healing and sleeping potions. All in all, he's much happier in the Muggle world these days.
On the table in front of him is his current project, a bunch of paperclipped-together notebook pages full of closely-worded script. Unlike the rest of Remus - currently wearing a Muggle outfit of a button-down shirt and business-casual slacks - the project actually does belong to the wizarding world. As usual when he's between homes, jobs, or other responsibilities, he's spending his time today as a copy-editor for his father's latest journal article, "Corporeal and Non-Corporeal Characteristics of the Common House Poltergeist: A New Relational Theory." There are numerous notes, hashings, and crossings-out on each page; Lyall Lupin is a tidy researcher, but an infamously messy writer. As it is, Remus isn't in the least bit worried that any Muggle would read what he's got in front of him and question it. He grew up with the man, and even he can only read the chicken-scratch penmanship with the difficulty of an archaeologist puzzling out Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Presently, he realizes that he'd better move his papers nonetheless: the cafe is getting full enough that the other two tables are occupied, and so that if anyone else comes in there will only be the seat across from him to sit in. And the door to his right has just swept open once again. He's impressed that the cafe has attracted so much attention today; maybe it's just the rain.]

First it was school, and now the training for her hoped-for career prospects. Two years into Auror training, with the third one just around the corner, and Tonks finds her life revolving around the more magical side of life.
But that's not to say that she has given up the Muggle part of life altogether. She enjoys it, and actually finds the other side of London a nice change of pace when she needs a place to think.
So that's what she decided to do today, take the Tube somewhere and walk around while thinking. The Muggle transportation has taken her to Islington today, which isn't somewhere she visits often so she thinks of it as an adventure..just not one she prepared for properly.
The heavier downfall catches her off guard, so she enters the cafe abruptly to get out of the thick of it. Stomping her boots on the mat so not to track water, she pulls down the hood of her zippered jumper and shakes off the smaller raindrops from bubblegum pink hair a little like a dog.
After going to the counter and asking for some tea and a pastry, Tonks turns around to look for a seat. A lot of people seem to be in the same predicament she's in. She does find one free seat, and moves toward it -- though not before having to pause and apologize to two different people for stepping on toes and nearly running into them.
"Bit busy in here, yeah?" She asks the man across from the seat she is hoping to take, an apologetic smile offered for coming into his space. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

He barely registers her as more than another anonymous moving shape in the cafe around him until he hears a not very well-concealed "tsk," from a woman at one of the other tables. He glances at the woman - older, very thin under her old-fashioned peacoat, clutching her mug in both hands and staring with a sour expression - before his eyes instinctively track toward the object of her disapproval. It's the woman who just entered the cafe, he sees: she's just pulled down her hood to reveal bright pink hair, still dripping from the rain. Well, that's no surprise. Probably if you surveyed the country's entire population of older, conservatively-dressed cafe patrons, a solid two thirds of them would have the same reaction to any young person with dyed hair. He turns back to his papers, but now he's on slightly higher alert in case anyone decides to openly harrass anyone else. Not that he'd make a huge scene out of it if something happened: it's just that standing by and letting someone get hurt goes against his Gryffindor nature.
But there are no other sounds of derision as the woman heads over to the counter. He lets himself focus in on his editing again, correcting a careless spelling error and scrawling in a suggestion to change the formatting of a group of data tables.
A minute later, though, the pink-haired woman appears again, this time in front of him and asking to take the open seat.
"Not at all," he says politely, smiling back at her in return. He shifts the table to give her more room to pull out the chair.

The look, either prior or subsequent, doesn't seem to bother Tonks. Other than the wink, she doesn't pay anyone much mind. Instead, she takes a sip of her tea and then grabs her Walkman out of her pocket and places her headphones on so not to bother the man while he works.
Quiet for a few minutes, she just casually people-watching. But then, pulling down her headphones, she chuckles and speaks up. "You can spread out again if you like. Looks like you're working and I don't want to be a bother."
