( let it snow )

❄ it's quiet
and the snow's beautiful tonight → a winter open meme
‧ post with whatever character you want
‧ responders roll for weather + scenario and get to threading
‧ ???
‧ profit
snowfall;
stage i; none, streets are already blanketed in white.
stage ii; very light and intermittent.
stage iii; light - moderate. lasts longer periods.
stage iv; continuous, heavy snowfall.
stage v; the hardest of cores - blizzards, snowstorms, you name it.
scenarios;
① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.
② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?
③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.
④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!
⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.
⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.
⑦ mix and match, or make up your own ‧:❉:‧
Stage iii or iv work for you?
The weather wasn't helping matters much, either. Forests were hard to trek through to begin with; top it off with snow blanketing everything and blurring their view, it became next to impossible.
Ike brushed a hand against the bark of a tree, only to find it scarred from the edge of a blade -- an earlier trick of his to create some sort of landmark for them. They did pass this tree. Several times, even. Indeed, they were lost.
Shinon was never going to let him hear the end of this.
With a sigh, Ike glanced through his snow-wet hair over towards the heron. "I think you're right. The snow's only making things worse." A pause as he surveyed the thicket around them. "Shelter's not an option, I think. Do you think you can continue on or do you want to rest?"
Were herons even suited for this sort of thing? In all honesty, Ike assumed they were. Then again, he also thought he didn't need to carry a map...
Yep!
Reyson's answer was immediate. "I can keep going if you can." This going would be so much easier if he was a Hawk, easily capable of carrying a beorc around -- he would have done so from the outset, and they would have beat the bulk of the snowfall. But though his stamina was much improved from years of following Tibarn and the others on their flights, he doubted he could carry Ike for long. If at all.
"Are you tired?"
no subject
Though it was unstated, he considered Reyson his responsibility. Tibarn would have his hide if something were to happen to him. If the guilt didn't do him in first.
"Not right now," he said at last, lowering his gaze. "We can continue a bit more, then stop if it gets worse?"
no subject
"I'll try and take a look from higher up. My eyes aren't as good as a Hawk's, but if there's a beorc settlement nearby, surely I'll be able to spot the lights." He shifted into Heron form and began to rise up into the air, beating his wings sharply to steady himself against the winter wind.
no subject
Realizing he was staring, he cleared his throat and blinked. "Be careful, Reyson."
They were in the literal middle of nowhere and in inclement weather to boot, yet Ike wouldn't put it past an enemy sniper or even a mistakened hunter to take a shot at a heron in flight.
"I'll be right here," he added. "The minute you see something strange, come back down. Alright?"
no subject
A gust of wind caught him unprepared, and he struggled to regain control of his descent. Nevertheless, he was blown a ways off course by the time he returned to the ground. "That way," he said, pointing. "I think there's a village or town up ahead."
no subject
That he survived his descent with barely a scratch was another. Ike couldn't breathe, not until Reyson carefully landed and shifted back.
"Good. Let's hurry then," he took a step toward the heron. Just a single step. The hill of snow packed on the earth nearly reached up to his knees. Even with endurance and experience with trekking through rugged terrain, the trip through it would take quite the toll on Ike's body.
Could Reyson even manage it, he wondered. Maybe he'd surprise him. Again.
"Ready?"
no subject
"Ready," Reyson said grimly, and began to push himself resolutely through the storm. When this was over, no doubt they'd get a scolding from Ike's mercenaries. "It's not too far. We should be able to make it."
no subject
The wind was biting, like tiny daggers thrown into his face. Despite the bite, he pushed forward then stopped abruptly. Without another word, he unclasped his red cape from his shoulders then held it out for
Reyson to take.
