👹 Villain Village: a TDM-style Meme 👹
// a TDM-style Meme //
Welcome to Villain Village! We're so glad to have you, and we're ecstatic to announce that you have qualified for our exclusive rehabilitation program for individuals such as yourself: those who have potential and limitless ambition to change the world, but who may have been just a little bit misguided.
Have you heard of the concept of "purgatory"? Well, think of it as a little karmic do-over. This is your second chance, and you decide your path from here: will you ultimately wind up in the Good Place, or in the Bad Place? That's up to you. You may be dead, but that doesn't mean you can't turn your life around!

Congratulations on your second chance, and welcome to your new home! They may need a little fixing up, but each new villager is entitled to their own living space, absolutely free of charge. Fortunately, you'll have at least one roommate per cottage to help spruce it up.
Don't worry that it's a bit bare bones at the moment. You can earn amenities such as plumbing, heating, and furniture through good karmic acts!

Don't forget to visit the town square! Here you'll find shops, public areas such as libraries and fitness centers, and entertainment. If you can dream it up, it will be here - even if it seems out of place or anachronistic. Everything is free of charge, as long as you are in good karmic standing. NPCs will also be here to task you with fetch quests and the like, which you can begin taking on to earn positive karma.
Here are a few tasks to get you started:

You may have noticed that there's a lot to do! The farmland here needs weeding, plowing, and planting. You can start from scratch or help out a villager with the orchards and vegetables already growing. Every little bit helps!
Bessie and Berta, the village's plow oxen, can be stubborn and like to bite and kick. However, they are easily placated into cooperation by apples and soothing lullabies.

Need to work out a little stress? Don't we all! The villagers suggest taking out your aggression on the many nefarious critters and monsters that make their home in the caverns just beyond the woodland. There's no end to the foes here, so you can rampage for hours - and all for the greater good!
There's a whole village out there for you to explore, and hey - it's just a meme! Be creative, and anything goes!

How to Play
1. Bring out your villains, your morally gray, and your heroes who did a bad thing once! They're now dead and trapped in this run-down farming village.
2. Top level a prompt or two, as if you were on a TDM.
3. Tag around! Good, helpful acts earn positive karma, while unhelpful and downright evil acts earn negative karma.
4. Strangely enough, even unquestionably evil acts - such as stabbing another PC - are often twisted into positives through the mystery of this place.
Turns out that was actually a monster in disguise! You're a hero! Did you burn down the whole farm? Why, that's just what we needed to revitalize the soil!
5. Good-aligned characters can arrive by mistake, or function as helpful guides for villain characters.

Here are a few tasks to get you started:
A. Several cats are stuck in the tallest tree in the village. Please get them down before it's too late! By the way, they're feral and they scratch.
B. Elderly Mrs. Wilson needs a strapping young person to help her carry five enormous, back-breaking crates of apples back to her cottage. In return, you get one bushel of apples and one fresh-baked apple pie.
C. Firewood is urgently needed for the welcome bonfire later tonight. Could you please cut down and process 30 trees? Mind the beehives.

It makes sense to her; she has, after all, the sins of her parents to carry as well as her own. Maybe that's why she's never seen her mother in this place; maybe Morgause got to move on at once, leaving Modrun to serve her time for her. That would be like her.
In any case, she's not unhappy - no more unhappy than she was in life, and very often less so. Work, she's learned, is better than company, at least for most purposes, and for the moment she has one and not the other; her last "roommate" (stupid word) left a week ago, and the new one hasn't arrived. So she's taking the opportunity for a thorough cleaning. Outside the cottage, all the household linens are swaying on the clothesline, the braided rugs airing on the low garden wall. Inside, the erstwhile and ersatz Princess of Lothian, the Witch of Orkney's daughter, Arthur's doom, is busy scrubbing down the kitchen table, her sleeves pushed up to her elbows.
II. [ In one of the innumerable, delightful little shops - one that smells earthy and clean and spicy-sweet, with immaculate wooden floorboards and airy draperies in the windows - a young woman is stocking shelves. Or, well, youngish - she might be thirty-five or so, or then again she might not; she's very small, black hair braided neatly down her back, wearing a long dress of plain gray linen, and her dark eyes have a tired look.
She doesn't look up as the door opens, just keeps taking little jars out of the basket beside her and lining them up on the shelf. ]
Half a moment, I'm almost done.
