Unrequited Love Meme

Love. Love is a many splendored thing. All you need is love! Except when it hurts because the person you adore doesn't have the same feelings towards you. Then it's a curse.

This meme is very simple, with only a few prompts on its own. But don't let that stop you from letting your imagination run wild, especially if you have a penchant for the tragic. Maybe it's not all bad, though. There could be a silver lining...


HOW TO PLAY

• Comment with your character and your preferences. Also, be sure to mention if you want you character to be the lover or the loved (or either), for lack of more refined labels.
• Tag around to others.
• Either use the RNG or come up with your own scene.

nothing more than short snippets of conversation — "sakura-san, i want you to - " "yes, akito-sama - " — murmurs and mutters; and little contact, other than the accidental brush of fingers across the breakfast table, the toppling of ceramic spice pots, salt spilling across polished walnut-wood. accidents and half-spoken arguments are their only methods of communication: since the night that akito had laid nude on the futon and kureno labored over her, loving her as was habit for them, working in achingly kind and slow movements, and she had glanced away —

to catch sakura watching them between a small gap in the wooden door panels, the paper beginning to peel. only to quickly skitter away: an intrusive pest.

the old adhesive had been crumbling, coming away, to be repaired with glue upon her insistence in the following days, helping restore the privacy of the individual rooms, but the two secrets remained revealed. and neither of them had breathed a word of it.

sakura had not fled back to the matou family, strangely. upon the realization that her husband is female, not so much a man as a woman pretending in desperate masculinity, she had not acted bitterly, but rather, seemed all the more attached. soft peach-pale blushes — the gentle downcast gazes — quietly still addressing her spouse as male, in public.

still, there is a knife gently rubbing against rope, waiting to come apart with the terrible weight of inevitable confrontation. horrible anticipation just sits in akito's stomach, heavy and churning. there is nothing she could say to address it, to fix the circumstances. she still refuses to show bare skin, to embrace, to kiss, to engage in any physical affections at all, and sakura must be tending to herself, in the absence of assistance.

they cannot even eat a simple breakfast together, akito staring dourly across from her, mouth pinched closed at the lacquered ends of the chopsticks, swallowing grains of rice, the salted puddle of sauce smearing darkly at her mineral-pink mouth. not speaking a word until the servants come to clear away the dirtied dishes, until they are truly alone.

extending a pale hand to invite sakura into the garden, where they could speak in private, lost amongst the lotus plants and bamboo shoots and brilliant maples, lavender bushes humming with insects. after several paces along the stone path, akito turns, gazing at her wife directly, addressing her for the first time in weeks. ​)
