Ever wanted to be a magical girl? Or a magical boy, or magical enbie or – well, you get the picture. If you've ever dreamed about frilly outfits, flashy transformation sequences and fighting monsters with the power of friendship, then this is the meme for you!

As well as a magical warrior, you can also go ham and play around with the genre tropes to have your character as the cool and aloof love interest, the clueless best friend, or even a villain whose only apparent goal is to make sure everyone else is having a terrible day. Use this meme and the prompts below as a springboard to come up with your own mahou shoujo flavour adventure!

INSTRUCTIONS:
☆ Post a top level with your character's name and canon! In the body of the comment, include some information about your character as a magical warrior (or as a villain, monster, familiar, dopey civilian love interest, etc.; get creative with your character's role!). Even just a brief bit about their powers will do fine, as long as you don't leave a blank comment!

[ Your average everyday teenage girl who just so happens to have spent the last ten or so years of her life in a virtual reality world under her control. No biggie. She's kind of quiet and weird on account of having spent so much time alone but if you're nice in her direction for like five seconds, she'll glom right onto you. Supremely reckless and has basically no sense of danger or self-preservation.

For meme purposes, a lot of this can be toned down to make her a more normal quiet schoolgirl – or not! I also like the idea of playing around with Rin somehow becoming a magical girl while still in the VR somehow lol

As a magical girl, she transforms into Fairy Reverie, with a cute fluffy fairy kei inspired outfit. Lots of poppy, pastel colours and fluffy, frilly layers. Her powers are mostly based around illusions and floaty, dreamy imagery and she has a finisher for taking down monsters of the week, Daydream Reverefresher. If we need a hook for MOTWs or antagonists, since Rin is mostly dream/illusion themed, we could go the direction of fighting nightmare creatures, or dreamwalking to protect people's dreams and all kinds of Sailor Moon SuperS shit like that.

I'm also totally down to play her as the Victim of the Week lol or even just the squishy normie best friend who's in on the secret. LOTS OF OPTIONS... ]

Under her Popular High Schooler Face, Akane hides violent and manipulative tendencies as well as control and self-loathing issues. A deeply troubled girl who struggles with anxiety, loneliness and generally just being a whole ass mess of a person. Ask Me About My Knife Akane Icons.

In the context of this meme, Akane is almost DEFINITELY a dark magical girl, either directly acting as a major antagonist or just a magical girl with her own agenda that opposes the heroes. Either way, she's absolutely in the business of creating monsters that the other have to fight.

I've also been super interested in doing some sort of magical girl AU for Gridman where Akane's particular fixation was magical girl media instead of kaiju so THERE'S THAT... ]

[ Your typical Shrinking Violet (HEH) bookwork girl, who loves literature and art, especially fantasy, horror and gothic stuff. Super withdrawn and self-deprecating and bad at making friends with new people. Can be super clingy and a bit intense if you manage to engage her and get her out of her shell, but she's really just a lonely girl in need of some good friends. Usually for the purposes of memes and stuff I just play her as a regular-ass girl but if you wanna do anything with all the weird DDLC meta stuff I would L O V E to play around with inserting magical girl stuff in the context of DDLC's fourth wall fuckery.

I actually have a whole bunch of ideas for Yuri, since there's so many different directions this can go in lol

As an uncorrupted magical girl (run roh), she transforms into Miracle Iolite, all decked out in gothic lolita with layers of sheer fabric, frills, crystals and what have you. She's definitely sort of playing into the "good witch" aesthetic, even if her finisher is a big shower magically constructed knives...

As a corrupted magical girl, Yuri transforms into Nightmare Iolite and instead of having magic knives she just Has A Knife. This is basically the Act 2 Yuri option, since this is a brainwashed/corrupted magical girl kind of thing where someone needs to save her ass with the power of love and friendship and stuff. Please Help Her.

SO BASICALLY: This can either be played with Yuri as a magical girl on the side of good OR she can be out here menacing folks on the side of the bad guys and needing to be stopped. Or, if you want to do some assumed CR, we could have people trying to save her from all the evil magic brainwashing junk OR EVEN FURTHER, we could play some stuff as the token ex-evil teammate trying to integrate into the team. ]

[ Would you be interested in a scenario where Yuri is desperately trying to find the source of the corruption that killed her friends and is now gnawing at her, only to find said source is the one friend she has left alive?

Basically the same thing happened to Sayori as it did in the game, but with the magical girl twist. Mental changes occurred, her depression grew and then someday she vanished without a trace. Worse, everyone forgot about her and traces of her existence straight up vanished from the "world." Unlike in the game though, Yuri, Natsuki and of course Monika could still remember her. Then the same happened to Natsuki. She started changing, became meaner, then she vanished and everyone forgot her.

Now Yuri is starting to feel the changes affect her, but thankfully she's managed to find the mastermind behind it all— Unfortunately, said mastermind so happens to be the last of her ally still "alive." Whether Yuri ends up corrupted and disappear or whether she succeeds in redeeming Monika— Now that'd be left up to the rp. ]

We can go the AU route where Rika was a magical girl all along, or we can go the Rei route where Furude Rika from the main timeline got isekai'd into the magical girl Furude Rika's body and became a magical girl that way. Also, as a note: one of Rika's power upgrades is getting an adult busty form if anybody wants to play with that. And as always, if we go the Rei route, full Higurashi spoilers apply. ]

[ Dark is definitely the anti-hero - likely sharing the same ultimate goal as the good guys, but going about it in a far different way, willing to make sacrifices to see the end result come about. Rather than "friendship is power", his motif is more along the lines of "only one person should have to carry the burden". To save the day - and the world - he'll do what he has to, whatever he has to, even if he becomes branded as a villain or a monster as a result. If "heroes" are in the way of that, then he'll do what he has to about them, too. Consider him an anti-Tuxedo Mask, showing up on the scene to make things that much worse rather than better.

It's fine if the world hates him - so long as there is a world left, at the end of the day.

For big dramatic bonus points, he may also assume his "normal" human identity under the name Asher, and coexist alongside the heroes in their day-to-day lives. Whether they know this about one another, or if it's one of those "costumes are off so we don't recognize each other" type of situations, either works. ]

Monika || Doki Doki Literature Club || OTA

[ Monika is happy to introduce you to DDMC (Doki Doki Magical Club), the alliance of four valiant heroines fighting together to make sure justice prevails! And of course, she is the brave and fearless leader of that team. Monika received her powers at the same time she was struck by an epiphany about the nature of the world. Said epiphany left her changed, to say the least. As far as powers are concerned, she has the standard magical girl fare. Her specialty is her ability allow her to perceive emotions alter the mental state of people.

There are two Variants. One in which she is just your average magical girl. In theory she is the leader of the group and in theory she is the most well-rounded and popular one... But when it comes down to the actual reality, her three friends overshadow her each in a specific domain and tend to catch the attention of people a lot more easily. She tends to be on the back while they take the spotlight.

The other variant has her be the actual villain behind everything. She is still pretending to be one of the heroines, but only so she can manipulate her own friends to their eventual demise. She's more of a tragic villain than an evil one. Finding out she's the actual villain is a Shyamalan plot twist(tm). ]

[So, hey, here's a thought based on the average magical girl variant: What if DDMC and Trey's team recently met because the former came to the latter's aid when Heartslabyul had an incident that involved fighting their corrupted leader, and now the two teams have been occasionally teaming up to fight common enemies since?

And maybe in the aftermath of one of these team-ups, Trey and Monika start bonding a little--after all, they're both in the background with much more standout friends.]

I'm thinking this said aftermath may have been a corruption / brainwashing episode that involved Monika herself, so she's trying to keep her distance from her usual teammates because she's ashamed of what she's done while under the spell. Makes it all the more likely for her to open up to her counterpart from the other team. ]

Niina Yamada | Blue Reflection Ray

[While her civilian life is pretty much unknown--someone might say that she's given up a civilian life to dedicate herself entirely to whatever goals their leader has--Niina Yamada is proudly a dark magical girl. She probably is a member of a small group of said girls, obviously in love with the leader. Canonically this group is obsessed with stealing emotions for a greater goal but for this, we can keep that but they can go about it in different ways such as releasing monsters to do it or dream shenanigans or what have you.

Volatile and loyal, she probably has a pseudonym like Lighting Reflection or something like that. She will assume herself to be any heroic magical girl's rival because obviously they're out to hurt the leader. That cannot be Allowed. This means, she'll probably be your loudest opponent but...

But you could, possibly, convince her to switch sides. Her loyalty is immense but it's such that if she thinks the overall plan is actually not good for said leader? Niina will switch sides to help... begrudgingly. She'll probably badmouth you and look down on you but she's a valuable ally regardless.]

Kaze Tsumetai/Blue Zephyr | Original

{OOC: Kazekui is 16, a friendly jock from a famous athlete family who lives for team-sports and being able to work together with others for a common goal. She saved a spirit animal, Nekomi, from being attacked by a "dark" magical warrior called a Rogami, and then magically bonded with them, transforming into a being called an Animagi. She and Nekomi worked together trying to find shards of the Crystal Moon that Nekomi's people would need to undo damage to their world.

She became Blue Zephyr and for the next two and a half years, she was a lone magical girl, although she knew other Animagi existed elsewhere. Eventually she does get a team, but constantly fears losing them or being rejected. This culminated with a big drag down fight where they had to stop a huge Alter Beast from breaking through a portal to Earth and to prove how much she believed in her team, Kaze agreed to be the diversion while the others combined their magic to stop the portal. Kaze was fatally injured but rather than Merge with her and actually take over Kaze's body for themselves, her companion Nekomi sacrificed their own essence to heal Kaze, bonding their souls and having Kaze take on some spirit animal traits herself, including claw-like nails and cat ears. Now, she has to hide this from others with a glamour.

I'm up to AUing Kaze into any kind of magical girl type of world or taking her from before the soul bond happened so she isn't part animal spirit yet. Up for just about anything! Assumed CR, OCs, cross-canon, all of it! F/F for anything ship-related.}

[Trey Clover insists he's pretty average. Whether that's true or not (he'd make for a fantastic civilian love interest!), he's a calm and mature guy, very much the reliable older brother of any friends group. His parents own a bakery and he's been known to help out from time to time.

As a magical boy, he becomes Emerald Clover, second-in-command of a Wonderland-themed team of magical boys known as Heartslabyul. Emerald Clover's a bit more subtle than his flashier teammates, especially with his main ability--Doodle Suit--being able to temporarily overwrite traits. He generally sticks to support! Of course, in the event that things happen to Heartslabyul's leader, he does have to step up for a bit...]

[ Nemuri's boots clanged loudly on steel as she walked down the fire exit staircase. The latest enemy had chosen to take her last stand atop an office building, and Nemuri would've been fine with that... if the main doors were open and she could take the elevator. At 31, even if she worked out on weekends, running up ten flights of stairs was no easy feat.

There were a lot of new magical girls and boys nowadays, but no one seemed to have the same powers as her. As such, there was still a demand for her own brand of justice... even if she felt a bit too old to be twirling her wand and yelling out her attack catchphrases. ]

It really is time to find a protégé...

[ Her surly best friend, who was also a magical boy (albeit less popular because he preferred it that way), had already taken on a student. It was probably her turn.

She was halfway down the staircase when she stopped and let out a groan, clutching a stitch in her side. She sure was glad that the fire exit was at the back of the building... and that it was the dead of night. No one wanted to see their magical girls acting like grandmas with creaking joints. ]

Needless to say, Kisuke was walked a dejected looking great dane down the street with a pink, glittery collar and fiery red ears.

He had to get home and finish dinner. Humiliating his old magical beast was starting to lose its luster fast that evening and he was getting sleepy just by strolling around.

He paused, glancing up as he heard metal creaking and a bit of noise. Recognizing a familiar outfit and the tint of rosy glasses, he lifted his cellphone from his pocket and pointed it up to snap a picture of her butt as she carefully made her way down the steps. He quietly texted the picture to her and left a '♡' as the caption on it, patiently waiting for her to get to the bottom.]

Konoka Konoe | Mahou Sensei Negima | OTA

[[Yes, I am absurdly late to this meme. I don't care, basically jotting my ideas down while the iron is hot.

Konoka Konoe is the laid back girl that's probably mistaken for the clueless best friend, if she isn't already. But in reality she's been involved in magical girl mayhem since childhood, as her family line has been noted to carry absurd amounts of mana. Konoka was originally oblivious of this power until bad guys close to her family abducted her to use her powers, but fortunately they didn't manage to get far before friends saved her.

Now, Magical Girl Regina Medicians (Regina for short) is the trusting but determined heroine with impressive healing and summoning powers. Her default outfit is her onmyouji flavored robes, though she can very easily switch outfits thanks to the power of her transforming card. Konoka prefers some flavor of diplomacy when dealing with things that aren't monster of the week (and even some that are, if they're naturally occurring and not the 'born of negative emotions/energy' kind). Konoka felt a bit coddled in the past and often wants to forge her own path, but also prefers working with others than going solo. Since she's used to having to investigate troublemakers instead of waiting for them to cause issues, she may very well snoop into shady (or even not-so-shady) activities and get a bit more than she bargained for.]]
