[He's not the Chosen One, but canonically he has a house full of magical artifacts, all the combined research of multiple generations of archaeologists and occultists, and a big fancy house with a device in it that can transport people to other worlds.

Zak is perfect Mentor of The Chosen One material, is what I'm saying. He will teach your character the basic rules of magic, hand them a thermos of hot tea on a cold day and sit them down on the couch while he paces and explains which pantheons are real.]
