oocly, i'm super enthusiastic about this kind of scenario! it doesn't have to be shippy. m/m for shipping, though, and i'd be interested in playing out a "still attracted to the ex" messy break-up-and-make-up cycle, but i'm happy to plot with whatever you might be interested in. )

Jon's back is stiff, his hands tight balls at his side in an attempt to not reach out. It's mostly his eyes as he look over at Jane, showing just how much this is breaking him too. "It's for the best, Jane," he offers. It's not broken, but the words aren't steel either. What were they supposed to do when wars were tearing their families apart in two different areas at the same time. "You have to go back and you can't worry about me. You have to be focused for your family."

Catelyn had ground her teeth every day that Jon had stayed at Winterfell instead of going to the Black when Ned left for King's Landing. Between Robb telling him he was an idiot and his heated relationship with Jane, it hadn't even been a tempted thought despite Catelyn's pushing him to go with his Uncle back to Castle Black. Jane was probably the best armor against Catelyn because she refused to let the woman bully and beat him down, had shown him exactly what he was worth and that bastard didn't mean anymore.

But it wasn't enough. It was like fate was determined to separate them. Word had come that Alderaan was under attack and her mother needed her. At the same time, Robb was marching South to try and get Sansa and Arya back from the Lannisters after they'd beheaded Ned. He couldn't abandon Robb any more than she could abandon a cry for help from her mother, could she?

His hand relaxed a little after a slow breath, trying to keep the pain in his chest and off his face. Though he's not entirely sure he's doing a good job of it. "I can't be the reason your family isn't saved. And I can't abandon my brother. I have to march South with him, make sure he's alright." She had to understand, didn't she? Even if part of him wished desperately that she'd say to hell with either war.
