HYGGE MEME


Hygge (Danish, noun): a complete absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things.



Dark winter evening: it's raining outside and it's cold, you're stocking up on blankets, lighting all the candles you can get your hands on and the tea's already brewing in the kitchen. Fend off the darkest season as the Danes do and have a good time with people you love.

First summer picnic: the sun's shining from a clear, blue sky, the temperatures have finally risen after half a year of depressive icy greys and it's time to go outside, bring a picnic basket and break out the wine and strawberries. Enjoy the sunlight while it lasts in a park somewhere or in the forest, if you're adventurous.

Autumn stroll aftermath: the winds are harsh and the leaves colour everything golden and red. Coming home from a walk that has left your cheeks red and your hands cool, go make some hot chocolate and fix up a bowl of marshmallows, it's time to get cosy.

Springtime playtime: the outdoors are turning a fresh green and the sky is bluer than it's been all winter. Bring sodas and sandwiches and go play in the garden. Some exercise should be healthy for the mind as well as for the body, because a game is the best way to shake off winter and reconnect with friends.

When the formal invitation arrives, Will won’t deny the slight amused grin it drew from him. The intricacy of Hannibal’s prestige world is striking to the contrast of his simple one, but maybe he can take a peek and attempt to understand. One day he might have to, and somehow the thought provokes one of the unexplainable sensations he sometimes gathers, but it does not bother him.

His days are filled with too much paperwork and the latest victim in the area. They keep elevating as they do, more puzzle pieces to gather. The one constant is an itch underneath his skin, one he wants to scratch off each time he has to profile the way he does. It never goes away. If he were to attempt to scratch it, he might bleed in ways he’s not ready. Will is almost relieved when Friday comes around, and especially when he receives the text from Hannibal. It’s hours prior when he’s preparing his dogs to settle in for his leave. The cool night of an approaching summer means they will be able to relax outside. He’s almost proud they’re trained so well. Will doesn’t get to respond until he’s leaving the BAU.

Appreciate it. I’m on my way. Figured it was polite to at least let you know.

Once he’s there, he holds quiet movements of confidence. Will values boundaries above all, understanding they come in different builds. He wonders how far theirs could unravel and reconstruct into new makings as he finds he’s inside Hannibal’s lavish hallway. It’s not a huge difference, but Will did try to dress a bit better. It seemed appropriate. He awaits, taking in the makings of the house itself, and at one point he touches the wall nearest to him.

His breath puffs against the window, but no mist forms, nothing to fog it other than the ice crawling along the pane outside. He wonders, absently, if he feels as cold as that makes him seem. He's not really alive anymore, but not dead. Something familiar with a lot of people in this place it seems. Turning back from the window his hands tucked away into his pockets. He's been tracking and it's lead him here-- a place somehow stranger than all the oddities he's experienced.

"Appreciate you taking a step back on the whole, smashing me to bits thing." The humor is tired and dry, not unlike the former soldier himself.

How does that old adage go? Something about time flying?

He didn't quite realize how accurate that was when Sara brought him to the Waverider. Her ship that can travel through time and has a room that can literally fabricate anything, like the bow that feels like an old friend in his hands. The weapons he knows how to use as easily as breathing.

Being on the ship is a freedom he wants to cling to, even when he doesn't know why he needs it so much. Move from one mission to the next, protecting time and he wonders if he'd ever wanted to do it before the attack, before he'd fallen and lost most of his memory.

The crew is.. interesting. Weird but in a way that puzzles and amuses him because they've cobbled together a family out of a bunch of misfits and he feels whole with them. With Sara.

Oliver may never recover all of his memories, but he's stubbornly determined to make new ones anyway, better ones.

Like slipping into the office behind the main console, breathing in the smell of warm, worn leather and old books with a bottle in his hand. He knows, before he even walks in, that he'll find Sara there, watching the time line drift across the screens. Sometimes Rory is there too, a silent shape as he shifts and adjusts a few things before leaving.

There's a story there, but it's one Mick will tell in his own time.

Oliver watches him go before opening the bottle and offering it over to Sara. "Quiet night."
