The RWBY AU Meme

Following the conclusion of the Great War, the occupation of "Huntsman" was created to safeguard mankind's future from the encroach of the Creatures of Grimm, packs of foul monsters which are attracted by negative emotions and whose sole purpose is to ensure the destruction of humanity. Four combat schools were founded to train these Huntsmen, the most elite of warriors: Beacon Academy in metropolitan Vale, Haven Academy in lush Mistral, Atlas Academy high above frigid Mantle, and Shade Academy in arid Vacuo.

These professors of these academies - all current and former Huntsmen themselves - instruct young, would-be warriors in their trademark art of designing, creating, and mastering their custom-built weapons, as well as honing each student's Semblance - a unique superpower which tends to reflect the wielder's personality - through real combat. From day one, stepping foot into an academy is a pledge that you are willing to sacrifice your life for the good of your fellow man.

Roles

⚔ Huntsman
Huntsmen and Huntresses are licensed, elite warriors dedicated to slaying the Creatures of Grimm and whose duty is to "uphold the peace" of their world. Some are contractors, drifting between missions, while others are hired to protect villages, public transports, and other locations from Grimm.

🗡 Student
Students typically enter a Huntsman Academy at age 17. Some have graduated from junior combat schools, while others have passed a difficult and dangerous entrance exam for admission. Huntsmen earn their licenses after four years of studying combat, survival, world history, knowledge of Grimm, and other practical skills through classes and internships.

➶ Professor
Professors are current or former Huntsmen and Huntresses who are charged with bringing up the next generation of Remnant's best hope for survival.

❄ Special Operative
Huntsmen and Huntresses recruited by the Atlas Military. Many of the top graduates of Atlas Academy follow this path, which guarantees privilege, consistent employment, and a sense of duty and accomplishment - as long as you are willing to follow your orders.

🛡 Other
Average joe, villager, damsel in distress, child lost in the woods, secret follower of the witch queen Salem - there's a whole world out there. Your options are endless!


Scenes

1. First Day of Class
Are you snoozing your way through world history, or duking it out against one an other in combat class?

2. Meet the Team
Students are divided into teams of four, which follow them throughout their academic career and even into adulthood. Team names consist of one initial from each team member's name, forming a word which invokes a color (for example, Ruby + Weiss + Blake + Yang = RWBY = ruby). Some academies assign teams, while others form teams through combat or practical challenges.

3. FOOD FIGHT!!!
On Remnant, even bread is a weapon.

4. Team Building Exercise
Your team has been tasked with a challenge, or sent on an internship.

5. Grimm Invasion
The Grimm are coming! Students and Huntsmen, assemble!

6. Practicing Your Semblance
You have yet to discover your Semblance, or perhaps you're just new at it. Maybe a little practice will help.

7. Vytal Festival
You're a student facing off against the student of another academy in a highly televised fighting tournament. The crowd is roaring, and the pride of your school rests on your shoulders!

8. Village Protector
You're the Huntsman or Huntress hired to protect this town or village. It's tough, lonely, and sometimes traumatizing work.

9. Working Together
You're a Huntsman working with Special Operative, a Professor or Huntsman in charge of a student intern, or a student temporarily paired with a student from a different school or team. Set aside your differences and make sure no one gets hurt!

10. Wildcard
Anything goes!

Waver gripped that arm tightly as Iskandar barreled through with his weapon blazing-- and there was no hiding his startled outcry while they charged into the thick of battle.]

[While he had intended to see how these Grimm reacted to certain applications of gravity dust, he had hoped that they would capture a small one for a few hours just to see. Bulldozing straight into a den was the complete opposite of 'controlled conditions'!]

"Whitley!" Oscar called through the wind and the dust as he ran over to the younger Schnee sibling in the middle of setting up their rag tag encampment. The refugees from Atlas were far more than the facilities in Vacuo had prepared for, so they were left forging a shelter in the remnants of the Dust Mines. All combat capable people, naturally, were called-- but Whitley and the other Schnees were as well, for their knowledge of the infrastructure.

The heat was hot, but nothing Oscar couldn't handle. Without the humidity that rolled in from the forests around his family farm, the desert sun was actually far more tolerable in Oscar's opinion.

He knew that likely was not the same for any citizen of Atlas.

Panting, Oscar skid to a stop before Whitley. "I know none of this is easy," he commented, offering out a water bottle he had found from their supplies. "For you especially. How... how are you holding up?"

Whitley had certainly been enduring an "adjustment" period, so to speak. Thankfully, the mines were a little cooler inside than the area outside, and his thorough study of the various SDC facilities, past and present, had made him somewhat useful. But it was still unfairly hot as the sands blew outside the mines and Whitley's constitution was not prepared. He hadn't complained--not really, only a little, and it wasn't as if anyone was paying attention when he did--and had done what he could to help them, providing details about the more volatile and condemned areas of the mines and where the mine could be fortified for large sleeping quarters.

But being inside the mines like this, with no choice but to somehow transform it into a habitable facility did make him realize just how small some of the tunnels were and how oppressive the confined spaces could be. So he stayed near the entrance of the mine "overseeing" the makeshift preparations for the moment, trying not to think about how hot his face feels or how sticky his clothes were. He's already taken off his vest and tie and has even daintily undone one of his buttons, but it hadn't been enough.

When Oscar arrived, he was surprised that he'd taken the time to check in with him. He wasn't sure how to take this unusual level of concern, but from what he had seen...it wasn't unusual for Oscar. This was just how he was all the time and that is even more unsettling. The only person he knew like that was Klein and there were very few people like Klein in the world.

He took the bottle from him, feeling some manner of gratitude, but also some many of pique. "None of it is easy for any of us, right now," he said instead. "I'm not uniquely incapable of surviving in the heat."

And maybe he has to wipe his bangs back yet again due to sweat making them heavy and sticky on his brow, but that's not disproving his point. And him openly bottle and quickly gulping down a third of it is does not either.

He trailed, flustered by the sass and how his point was utterly missed. Oscar smiled sheepishly as he watched Whitley gulp down the water-- clearly distracted in his own right by all of the unsettling matters they had been forced to deal with.

A part of him kept asking... 'what would Ruby do?'

Digging into his coat, he found a handkerchief and passed it off to Whitley so he could refresh himself more easily.

"You're not wrong, but... I wasn't just talking about the heat, you know."

[It's the first day of classes and the winds are fairly strong in the upper tiers of Haven. Strong enough that their practical instructor decided outdoor activities would all be focused on balance, falling, and control in strong weather conditions. Reasonable, when you don't know how high into the mountains you'll have to travel when fighting Grimm.

Seiji has had to be careful, to the point of wearing a hood to keep his face shadowed. It makes it easier to keep his hair covering the right side of his face. First day of classes and he already is worrying about being seen. The scales on his brow and down the side of his face have been something he's hidden most of his life and he has no intention of it falling apart now. Not even with his team.

The professor is explaining the practical challenge of the day. He looks briefly at his team to make sure they are paying attention.

"You do the drop and have to manage your decent. But don't think it's as easy as a normal landing strategy. Things will be flying up at you trying to throw you off and you're going to have to deal with that. All of your team needs to make it to the ground safely. Now who's going first?"]
