Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

... Actually, I think it's a sea serp--

[ A torrent of water from the beast's mouth blasts Dark into the water before he can finish being nitpicky ]

[ While he's the one who got blasted in the face, she's the one who shrieks. ]

DARK!

[ Well, he's probably durable enough to handle it, but she's still worried, okay? Little known fact: she's not very good at swimming and considers deep water one of her weaknesses. Thus, she naturally assumes others are the same.

This, naturally, is why she immediately drops to her knees and holds out her hand over the water to help him out. If he's conscious enough to reach for it. Don't make her jump in, Dark, she is legitimately terrible at swimming in choppy water like this.]

[ He's more surprised than actually stunned as he falls into the water - for such a large monster it can fire off an attack much faster than he expected. Thankfully she's right about his durability - he's taken more than his share of hits in the past, and he's become capable of enduring much more than this.

But it still makes him really mad.

So even as he's reaching out to clasp her hand he's glaring furiously past her at the serpent, teeth grit, eyes wild. ]

I'm taking its head.

[ Oh, good, he's not dead or hurt. Even though she suspected he'd be fine, she did have a momentary heart attack there. She glances over her shoulder at the serpent as well. It's just....waving back and forth, not yet attacking again for some reason. ]

I'm Electro-resonated right now. In this storm I can't promise how much the charge is going to jump around.

[ It's not going to stop her, because frankly she's been literally struck by lightning and walked it off after she got back on her feet, but....well. Just of course she'd have the worst element for a fight during a flood against a sea serpent.

....At least the electro will be super effective on it, probably? ]

[ While she points out her situation aloud, he considers his own internally, because that's very useful in a teamfight and all. Fire magic here would be an absolute joke, so his dark magic will have to suffice. That's fine - it's (unsurprisingly) his preferred element, but given how fast the mosnter was able to attack it may be hard to land a decisive hit. It wouldn't help anything to tire himself out with nothing to show for it. ]

... Unless you were touching it directly, perhaps. Is that possible?

[ She frowns a moment, before giving a small nod. ]

I can probably get up close to it. There's just one issue:

[ she just...gives him a smile ahead of time, anticipating the incoming annoyance. ]

There's no way I'm going to be able to swim in this water. I'll definitely drown if I end up in there left to my own devices.

[ So she can close the distance, but it'll be only one shot, and whether it knocks her off or she just falls off because it collapses, Dark will have to be there to help her.

Or she can drown.

[ He looks from her, to the serpent... then back to her. Surprisingly, he actually doesn't look annoyed at all. It isn't like she brought this flood upon them - she didn't put herself in this situation. ]

Well, I'm glad you told me that before ending up in the water.

[ He turns back to the serpent, opening one hand - with a flicker of light and shadow his scythe materializes in his grip. ]

Knowing that, I will ensure that you aren't left to your own devices.

[ So, yes. He'll save her. ]

[ Okay, that earns a laugh. ]

You really think I'm reckless enough not to? [ sober ] Right. Tell me when and I'll make the jump. Give me two seconds once I'm there to summon my Elemental Burst. You'll know when it happens.

[ He shifts one leg back, rearing his scythe back behind him as if to prepare a strike. Looking closely at the blade, it seems as if the metal's coloration begins to gradually fade from its usual silver to - wow here's a surprise - pitch black. ]

Whenever you're ready.

[ You know, she really likes the color black. It looks good. Especially on him and his things.

Anyway. ]

Right.

[ Solid ground is scarce right now, but there's about two steps worth of her sprinting forward before she launches herself off of the ground, a fizzling of electricity dancing across the ground from her enhanced leap.

Maybe this is a surprise to Dark, maybe it's not, but she gets about...halfway to where the dragon-serpent is, before it unleashes a hydro blast directly at her face this time instead of him.

So admittedly, her part of the plan isn't going...perfectly.... ]

[ Thankfully, this was something he had suspected might happen. While channeling magic into his scythe with one hand, he thrusts the other forward - there's plenty of darkness beneath the water, after all, and a column of intense dark magic erupts from beneath the waves to intercept the serpent's blast. Admittedly, the timing is... harrowing, as he needs to dissapate the magic before Lumine soars right into it.

He. Probably does?

[ That's good, because her own elemental abilities would literally only make a water blast aimed at her face worse. It probably looks cooler from where he is than where she is, because to her it's pretty much just a column of water shooting at her that suddenly gets obscured by darkness and then nothing.

Anyway, if she happens to go through a little bit of the remnants of that darkness it's...probably fine?

She can handle getting singed or a little drained or whatever, it's fine.

Either way, she actually manages to connect with the dragon, legs linking around its long neck like a strange horse she's trying very hard not to get bucked off of. Purple light gathers in her hands for a few seconds, glimmering off of the wet scales of the dragon, aaand

the clouds split and a giant purple lightning bolt strikes the serpent, the water around the beast, and also her. sending her literally flying away from it into the water elsewhere. Benny style.]
