Sure, complimenting personalities bring people together. It's always good to get along with your significant other or friends, so "birds of a feather flock together," as they say. But let's be honest. That doesn't make for good entertainment. Readers and viewers love a good odd couple, where the two are diametrically different. This can be in personality (good girls and bad boys), appearance (Beauty & the Beast, anyone?), species (ALIEN AND HUMAN LOVE IS REAL!!!1), and so on.

This meme is inspired by this concept and a certain song that probably shows your age if you recognize it. According to Wikipedia, "the lyrics are about a couple who love each other despite being different in just about every way possible." And...that pretty much summarizes the meme, too! (Though, it doesn't have to be love. Hate can be an option.)

HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character. In the subject, put info & preferences.

And he's grouchy, pessimistic, and thinks that impulsive is a four letter word. Worse than that, though, is how he spends his free time. When he wasn't in class, he was in the library. When he wasn't in the library, he was in his dorm, his eyes glued to his textbooks and his notes and whatever research article he could scrounge up on his laptop. And, in the rare moments where his attention wasn't on his classwork, he did volunteer work; not out of the goodness of his heart, mind, but in an attempt to appear "well-rounded" for his future applications to law school. Did he ever do anything fun?

...well, there were those children's shows he liked to watch. But nobody needed to know about those. That was a guilty pleasure he'd take to his grave. Besides, he barely had time for those anymore. As he strode through the halls of his school, he reminded himself that he had far bigger things to worry about right now.

[OOC: I forgot to mention it in the PM, but how did we want them to know each other? I'm good with anything; they can be classmates or volunteer buddies, or maybe he could be working as a tutor.]

"EDGEWORTH-KUN!!!"

The call was right behind him, where Orihime stood with one hand to her mouth, her books tucked under her other arm. She hadn't meant to startle him, and she hoped she hadn't, but he hadn't responded when she'd called his name the last three times.

"I had a good idea about our tutoring tonight!" She shifted her books to hold them to her chest, beaming from ear to ear.

Her friends thought she was crazy, trying so hard to win Edgeworth's attentions. While they agreed he was kind of cute, a girl like her could have any boy she wanted in the whole university, and then some. Why the uptight and serious stick in the mud? The two didn't match at all! Orihime just shrugged, grinning as she shrugged the matter off. 'I'm just curious, that's all!' she'd told them.

It was true...but it wasn't the real reason why. He seemed stressed out, to the point where she worried for his safety. People who worked that hard were sometimes driven by exacting parents who would rob their child of his or her self-esteem in order to obtain bragging rights about a prestigious education or employment. It wasn't right. Edgeworth was naturally intelligent, she knew that much. He didn't have to work half as hard as he did, but she admired him for his perseverance. In some strange way, she was drawn to him, and in the past two weeks, she found that her heart grew warmer for him with each tutoring session they shared. She had ceased to worry for him, instead growing to love him dearly.

"Hrk!"

Well, that was one way to get his attention. Edgeworth practically jumped out of his skin, and after he caught the book in his arms, he spun around, eyes narrowed in a glare. Once he saw who it was, though, his expression instantly softened to one of mild annoyance.

Now, he felt no ill will towards Inoue whatsoever. To be honest, she was probably one of the brightest students he had ever tutored, and he had nothing but respect for her work ethic and willingness to learn. However, she was rather... eccentric, with an odd way of looking at the world, and while her energy could be contagious at times, if often left him baffled and bewildered.. He wasn't sure if he would ever understand her.

...either way, she was harmless. In fact, he didn't think that she had a single mean bone in her body, which was more than he could say for most people. Edgeworth took a deep breath to calm himself, and adjusted his books underneath his arm as he straightened up. Besides, he was curious about her idea.

"Yes, Miss Inoue?" As cool and formal as ever, he tilted his head as he looked at her (his eyes focused on her face, thankyouverymuch), and asked, "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, it depends on the weather," she said, pleased that he was at least open to the possibility of a change in plans. "It might rain, and it might not! If it's not raining, I thought maybe we could study at a diner, so we'd have something to eat while we worked on the lesson. And if it does rain, we could just order pizza, and maybe watch a movie if neither of us are too tired."

It was the closest thing she could get to persuade him to go on a date. Orihime wasn't about to get pushy or suggestive with him. She did want to see him go out and relax, maybe have some fun. He'd been working so hard, she felt he absolutely deserved it.
