[After a long moment as Sabriel waits for the elevator to move again, she heads over to the door, first pushing the 'open' button- and then, furiously, tracing the Charter marks for opening onto the elevator doors, where they glow brightly, but don't do anything else, and Sabriel instead starts banging on the doors with her fists.]

Being in tight quarters with someone she didn't know wasn't Alex's idea of a good time, but the positive side of elevator rides was that they were short.

Or they were supposed to be.

When the car stopped she had one hopeful moment that it would start again quickly. That moment came and went and there was nothing. Then the main lights went out and the emergency lighting came on. Hope turned to frustration. Not at the man next to her, but the elevator and whoever maintained it.

"Come on. Really?" she murmured. "I knew I should've taken the stairs."

[There were definitely worse things than being stuck in an elevator with a krogan. Lobotomies were probably worse, for example, and gangrene was pretty unpleasant, and Shepard could remember a time or two when she'd been bleeding badly enough that it was definitely worse than being trapped in an enclosed space with a krogan.

Of course, in the normal course of things, being in an elevator with a krogan was a temporary state of affairs, quickly resolved. Just about long enough for them to exchange a biting remark or two and then arrive at their destination before it actually turned into an argument. Or worse. But that was normalcy; she should be so lucky, today.]

Oh, you have got to be kidding me. [This said at the ceiling, where the lights flickered and then died.] Really?

[The elevator car lurches as the mass fields propelling it fail and the safety brakes lock in. They're well and truly stuck now, at least until a repair team comes along— unless they care to bust through the hatch and try to climb out under their own power, a vertical traversal of more than two-hundred meters, free-hand. Shepard could do it, of course, but it would take hours and meant leaving Wrex to cool his heels for however long it took to get back. Not the smartest plan, but it would do for a backup.]

You know, they say elevators on the Citadel don't break down...

Tony hasn't been back from Afghanistan long, it's been maybe, what? A week? A week since he announced to the world his company was through making weapons, a week since Obie told him to keep his head down and to let him handle things. Honestly, that suited Tony best, giving him time to work without interruptions, and with single-minded focus on his goals for the future.

This jaunt to the base was for one reason: to take Rhodey into his confidence. He needed a pilot, a damn good one, someone he trusted, who's trusted him since MIT.

The way Rhodey's eyes narrowed, his refusal to just listen to what Tony was gonna propose...

'What, are you a humanitarian now?'

Yeah that. Stung.

Tony jabs the button for the elevator, the metal worn smooth from decades of other hands brushing its surface. Nothing. He gives it another poke with an impatient sigh, rewarded for his efforts by the soft chime in response, and the inviting slide of those metal doors.

He gestures in the waiting airman first, some tall and handsome guy he doesn't recognize, and who Tony's glad he'll only have to spend a minute or so with. Nothing against Tall And Handsome, but the very last thing he'd like to do is be around other people right now. His stomach growls in the immediate silence, an annoyance to address once he's back on the road. "Should've called," he mutters to himself, not looking forward to the two hour drive ahead of him. "Uh, hit P1 for me. Thanks."
