Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

[Ben had never expected to be forced into an arranged marriage. These things weren't done.

But his country, Alderaan, had customs that were considered outdated and rarely used. But the royal family needed the good publicity. It had recently been revealed that his maternal Grandfather was Anakin Skywalker, also known as the infamous terrorist, Darth Vader.

To keep their standing, their connections, the arrangement was made with the country of Fest. Originally it was to be with the Crown Princess, but the Crown Prince volunteered to take her place.

They had never met before that day at the altar. To further both their country's interests and secure alliances.

But they didn't speak once they were shown to their rooms. Ben stared at his new spouse before stalking off to the bathroom. He slammed the door shut before locking it.

He thought he had more time. To be who he wanted to be, to see the world, to see things, experience them. Now he was stuck in a loveless marriage. Because of the actions of his grandfather.

Everything had seemed to happen so quickly in the lead-up to VDC, but it was nothing compared to how quickly things happened afterward. One moment Epel's family was congratulating him over the phone, the next they were explaining the really extraordinary opportunity the Asim family had offered and what a difference it was going to make for the village, and the next... Well, it was happening. Instead of heading back to the farm for the break, he was going to the Country of Hot Sands. And getting married.

And while he might have decided to try embracing and strengthening himself as he was instead of beating his head against the wall trying to become huge and ripped and unimpeachably masculine... that didn't make being called a "beautiful bride" by one stranger after another any easier to swallow. (Who knew so many people didn't actually read the wedding announcements and invitations they received??)

But the ceremony itself was amazing and impressive beyond anything he'd ever imagined, and thanks to Kalim's patient explanations and support, Epel succeeded at not making a scene during any part of it! And the sheer amount of delicious grilled meat available at the wedding feast made every troublesome and annoying part of the preparations worth it and then some.

One thing he hadn't found out yet was what sort of chores and responsibilities would fall to him here (assisting in the date palm orchard, maybe, or animal care?), and whether he'd be starting right away or have time off for a honeymoon. So, once he and Kalim were alone, he asked, "How early a start do we have tomorrow?" (There were definitely more important things to discuss on their wedding night, but... it was low-hanging fruit.)

( As much as the world had progressed in many ways, some things could not be avoided. Prestige and riches both opened certain doors, and if you wished to make a difference that meant something, you needed both. The Amsels were an old family, with all the prestige, reputation and influence that entailed. They had connections and their name meant something. They were not, however, a great powerhouse of wealth. They had a grand home, certainly, but other assets had been sold away over times, save for those things too precious to be parted with. The building of grandeur for the family, though, was not what interested Herian, or what motivated her to be swayed to such a match.

The Tyrells were not what could be considered “new money” by any reasonable person, but people were rarely reasonable, and even so, while respectable they were not quite at the same level. Mace Tyrell hoped to change that. So here she is, at the reception of her wedding, wearing a soft grey dress, and sitting at the main table, silent. She watches and she listens, but she isn’t easily swayed to conversation - which is unfortunate, given that the father of the bride was just getting enthusiastically speaking to her for a solid ten minutes before he was steered away.

Herian exhales, and wishes she could slip away to the balcony, but that would surely test the boundaries or politeness. Abandoning her own wife at their wedding reception seemed less than thoughtful.

Not that she’s progressed to, you know, properly conversing with Margaery. Instead she keeps debating things and then thinking better of them, and she’s been decidedly stuck in her head. )

There are those that say a shower on a wedding day is an omen of good fortune.

( And shower it had, just briefly as they emerged from the church, before the sun returned. )

👋🏻^^ Hailing from Victorian period. What do you think about arranged marriage with this one? Problem is, Molly's intended have a very distracting chaotic younger brother who dazzles a lot of young women. Mycroft knows this but neither of them have choice because as the eldest he must marry and produce children to continue the family line and Molly's parents thinks that he is the better prospect because of stable government job and quiet, respectable gentlemanly behaviour.
