As far as undercover missions go, she's been on worse. Considerably worse, if she factors in the time that involved Moscow's sewer system. But a black tie gala? That's practically just a fun night out. The added bonus is that Sam is along for the ride.

"I'd say you should wear ties more often, but they're not really practical field wear," she informs him, mouth curled into a half smirk as she reaches out to give his tie a playful tug. They're waiting at the bar for champagne as she scopes out the people that swirl around the room. Natasha looks remarkably at ease, clad in a black evening gown with detailing that involves a lot of lace and flesh colored paneling that gives the illusion that she's showing more skin than she actually is. It's a pointed distraction - she has enough weapons on her to overthrow a small army.

The bartender delivers their glasses, and she lifts hers to Sam with a quirk of her brow before she takes a sip. "Our friends aren't here yet."

He's not exactly the spy type - Sam's the first to admit that. This, though? This is almost effortless. Well, the part where he gets to act like he's just a man taking a devastatingly lovely woman out to a gala. Highbrow as it gets, but Sam can appreciate a chance to get into a well tailored suit and sip champagne.

He grins when Natasha tugs on his tie a little bit, lips curled comfortably. He looks for all the world like the belongs - it might not be his scene, but Sam's someone who feels comfortable enough in his own skin to make it look like he's right where he wants to be. Helps that Natasha makes it easy.

"So champagne and some downtime for us, hm?" He raises the glass back and sips as well, taking the chance to let his gaze flick about the room, then back to Natasha. "Doesn't go well with the wingsuit," he amends to her comment about the tie, then adds: "Afraid you'll have to find a different way to get me to wear one more often."

Natasha has a sneaking suspicion that he'll be better at the spy stuff than he gives himself credit for. Well, at least this sort of spy stuff. Things tend to get kind of dicey when you bring people into the criminal underground in her line of work. But a gala? That's just good practice. And a tidy excuse to lure him out onto the dancefloor.

"Oh, I can think of a few ways to get you in a tie," she answers easily, a mischievous look on her face as she sips the champagne again. Steve has made the observation in the past that she flirts as if it's second nature, which isn't entirely true. She often flirts simply because it's a neatly packaged distraction. But it's easy to flirt with Sam. One brow quirks pointedly as she tips her head toward the dance floor. "How's your foot work, flyboy?"
