Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

(( Canonically she has an arranged marriage, and I'd really like to play an M/F scenario where she's able to maybe befriend her fiance. But I play her as a lesbian so she wouldn't fall in love with him, so I'd like to focus on the friendship between the two! Maybe even calling off the marriage for their own happiness?

Or I could AU it with an F/F, F/NB-lesbian scenario that could be focused on romance!

[ OOC: hey there! Okay with this guy? Kinda AU. Since Rinoa's father is heading the Galbadian military and Roy is now the leader of Amestris, how about an arranged marriage for the sake of keeping the peace between the two nations? In this scenario, we can assume they are much closer and likely to go to war if something isn't done to unite them in some way. Vinzer Deiling could be all like, 'yo, General Caraway, you got a daughter, right? She needs to be married off to that idiot leader of Amestris!' They both have people they're in love so this is bound to bring up some angst. But! Maybe they can eventually learn to like each other or at least work together.

Or if you have any ideas, I'm happy to go along with it. ]

They were trapped together for a month in the cottage on the border of... someone's land. He didn't really know who or where. At first, Cheng had been furious that yet another matchmaker had decided to try their luck with him. Hadn't he done enough to keep them from meddling in his business??? Apparently, not.

He couldn't fault Lan Xichen about it. He was just as much a victim as he was. And yet the man infuriatingly chose to remain honorable against dishonorable vices. And Cheng wasn't going to be played up on that. Agreeing to stay the month, Cheng had managed to whittle a brush for Xichen (so he could paint or write or color the pieces to the go board he'd been working on) and was currently working on some 'hillbilly wine.' It involved potatoes and some of the herbs in the forest. By his accounts, it was probably almost done.

In the meantime, they worked together to hunt and gather food for themselves, traded cooking and cleaning chores, spoke about sects and rules and anything else that tickled their fancy long into the night. And being mature adults, they slept in the same bed even if Xichen went to bed early and woke up even earlier. As time wore on, Cheng found him cherishing Xichen's company-even if the only reason why they were together was that they had been forced to. It wasn't like Xichen would actively seek out Cheng's company.

This particular day had the sun rising red. Everything had been hot and sticky and even the cicadas were complaining with ear-splitting levels of noise. Cheng was used to heat but he was also used to swimming and he was eying the little pond that was near their cottage. He glanced back over to Xichen and then made his decision. "I'm going swimming."

He stood up and started to shed his clothes. But he couldn't be a complete heathen and chose to fold each layer carefully as he looked at Xichen out of the corner of his eye. "Coming with?"
