Bucky stares at the tidy rows of houses, down the tidy lane, and thinks disdainfully, this used to be the American dream.

Still is, apparently, but he can't imagine himself ever having said dream. It already looks creepy, cookie-cutter houses in the same bland eggshell-white vinyl siding and black-shingled roofs, even before you learn about how all the new residents, once moving here for a week or so, stop keeping in contact with friends, some going so far as to quit their jobs, siting finding work within the new gated community itself that was 'more fulfilling.'

"This place gives me the creeps," Bucky says out of the side of his mouth, to his 'wife' walking beside him as they move up the sidewalk to what is now their new home. He mutters it, before smiling at the very bland, pleasant looking neighbors to their right, who are clearly curious about them. He lifts his hand and tilts his head in a wave-and-nod greeting; he uses the gesture to settle his right arm around Ariel's shoulders. Gotta be convincing. Just your average newly-wed couple, nothing to see here.
