On the plus side, because she's being so cute and flustered, he feels even more emboldened... and thus, more likely to actually give her a straight answer, since it would clearly embarrass her more than it would embarrass him. ]

[ He's just teasing - and she knows that - but it's still embarrassing. And maybe the tiniest bit painful, in that she knows he doesn't mean it the way she'd like him to. ]

[ Even talking about this sucks. Why is he making her spell it out like this? She's so red she can almost see the heat radiating off of her face... ]

[ Yeah, he's teasing a little. But he's not saying a thing he doesn't mean, either, as he wraps his arms around her and gives her a warm, tight hug. That way, she can't see the slight blush on his cheeks. ]

[ Mion freezes. Because he's all but said he really means it, means that he'd want her to be his not-platonic soulmate, and it kind of sounds like he's not joking. 

But that can't be possible, can it? After all... who would pick her when Rena is available as a soulmate, or even Shion? ]

[ Her voice is small, resigned, mumbled into his shoulder as he hugs her. Because it's not like she really wants it to be true... it just is. ]

He frowns to himself as he hugs her, and his hand strokes the back of her head softly. How should he handle this? [ There's no real bite to his voice, though. And even though it embarrasses him, he leans his cheek against the side of her head, hoping the added closeness will help him get it through that thick skull of hers. ]

[ His face turns more and more red, and he shifts away, letting go of her so that he can rub the back of his head. ]

[ She's blushing still, but there's genuine confusion, since she... really doesn't see herself as cute at all. ]

[ He might as well be honest about it. But it's not as simple as that. They're not going to get anywhere if he harps on it and tries to tell her she's just like Rena or Shion, because she's not. She's different... and that's not a bad thing. ]
