Team Tension

Ideally, a team works like a well-oiled machine, with all the cogs existing in harmony. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that two team members hating each other could easily lead to disaster. But have you ever considered the consequences of two team members liking each other...too much? Love or attraction can be a dangerous force, even when you're on the same side. Can you both be professional? Or is this a reason somebody needs to make a "no intra-team dating" rule?

"Team" is pretty loose here. Superhero team, sports team, debate team, #squadgoals, I don't care.

[Kylo gets sentenced to working with the Avengers (or their successors) as a sort of community service after someone finally gets him away from Snoke? He was a high profile missing persons case about 12 years before that had never been solved. They know they can’t contain him and he’s potentially too valuable to kill so they sent him to what’s left of the Avengers, at least until the US has a super powered military unit to keep him under control. I’d imagine that could lead to some team friction...]

[ It hadn't been long since Jack and Ianto first fell into bed together. It wasn't as though it was some sort of accident, of course, but as cavalier as Jack could be with such things, even he isn't used to working in such close quarters afterward. Especially not so close to the other person having a great deal of emotional trauma. He hadn't meant to take advantage, but Ianto hadn't said no, and by all accounts was pretty enthused at the time.

But he can't help himself but to glance over at him at every opportunity and recollect how he looked in the throes of passion. How cute he looked with his cheeks pink, and how nicely his name sounded on his lips, how good he felt when--.

No! Focus! You're doing very important work, Jack! People's lives are at stake! ]

[Ianto was still processing everything that had happened. He hadn't expected to say goodbye to one lover and hello to another so quickly, but he didn't regret it. Not exactly. He just wasn't sure where he stood with Jack in the wake of those heated moments.

If Jack was distracted, Ianto was hyperfocused, but his mind was whirring, grinding away at unanswered--and as yet unasked--questions like a fork in a garbage disposal. Had it only been a moment of passion? Had it meant something? Should he ask, or wait for Jack to speak up first? So he threw himself into work, keeping the books balance, keeping things tidy, making sure everything was running as it should, and becoming irrationally irritated with anyone or anything he perceived to be out of place.

Especially Jack.]

Do you mind? Some of us are trying to work.

[ The sudden snippiness from Ianto was surprising. Was he in the way? Or just generally making a mess? Well, yes on both accounts, he supposes, but not any more than usual, he thinks. It takes him a moment to realise that Ianto must have caught him staring. Oops. ]

Am I distracting you?

[ He puts on a cocky sort of grin, as if he wasn't the one being distracted. ]

Something on your mind?

Of course not.

[It's not entirely a lie. Jack isn't any more or less of a hot mess than usual. It's just that today, Ianto feels less put-together himself, so he notices it more. He's afraid everyone else will notice it, too, and he's not ready to field their questions when he hasn't even answered his own.]

It's nothing.

[That's definitely a lie. It was just...a lot. And it's not fair to take it out on Jack. He reaches for his coffee cup and starts to take a sip before he realizes it's empty.]

I need a refill. You?

[ It's not hard to see that Ianto is feeling awkward about it all. In fact, he was still feeling a bit weird about it himself. Not that he was any stranger to sleeping with colleagues or friends but... Ianto's awkwardness is a source of awkwardness in of itself.

Does he regret it? Does he feel taken advantage of? Did he do or say something to hurt him? For as much as Ianto is trying to ignore the questions, Jack is trying to puzzle them out himself... without actually asking for the pieces. After all, if it's an answer he won't like, that'll just make things even worse, and as flippant as he can be about encounters like that, it's much easier when you don't have to look at that person every day. ]

Huh? Oh, yeah. Thanks.

[ He hands over the mug just as he always does, trying to play it cool. He clears his throat and lets his smile ease into something a bit more casual. ]

That uh... that a new tie? It's nice. Good colour.

Oh, you noticed? [Ianto tries to hide the flattered flush that creeps actually his cheekbones but the best he can do is look away hastily as he collects Jack's cup.] It is, actually. Thanks.

I always notice your ties. You look nice with a bit of colour.

[ There's a joke there, or a flirtatious comment just hiding beneath the surface that he chooses to bite back if only for Ianto's sake. He can't hide the blush from Jack though, no matter how hard he tries, and he feels appropriately smug about it. ]

You've got good taste. You shouldn't be afraid to show it, you know.

[Ianto is sure his cheeks rival his pink tie, growing redder still at even the hint of innuendo. Perhaps he should have worn the lavender one instead. Not that it would have stopped Jack staring.]

I'm not. Afraid. I'm just... Expanding my comfort zone. First time for everything, and all that. Right?
