It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm with an endless downpour. Time to quickly find cover! Nothing much to do but to wait it out. Where is the rain happening? How are you coping? Why are you out when it hits?

001 PLAYGROUND | Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK | Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT | Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 BEACH | Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 FOREST | Mud, bugs and all the rambler's paths are washed away so you don't know how to get out.
006 SKY | On a plane? A pegasus? You were there when the first drop fell.
007 EMPTY CITY | Maybe it was a zombie apocalypse or WW3. It's safer outside when all the nasties take refuge indoors.
008 AT SEA | Nothing is worse than an unexpected freak storm here. Except sea monsters.

The planet is not Earth. The planet is also not Sulleciel. The planet is, in fact, one of hundreds beyond the Ring that have been colonized by a mixture of Earther, Martian, Belter — all getting along about as well as they did in their home system, as on Ilus. The Roci is here

Officially, they're on vacation. Honeymoon, as a point of fact, if certain people named Avasarala ask. Unofficially, they're continuing exploration of protomolecule structures found on other planets. So unofficially, in fact, that Jim has yet to tell his new wife (wife, Jesus) about it. She deserves better; he knows, and he'll tell her, just not yet.

There's a town on the surface of this planet, lobbying already to call themselves a capital, and there's surprising availability of creature comforts. Which is to say that under the three moons, the alien stars, the slightly less-than-Earth gravity, there's actually something approaching a hotel; and if the rooms are small, they have real glass windows that open and let in fresh air. It'd be nice if that's where they were when the storm started, but of course it's more like: out in a field on a rumor of strange happenings, grass blue-tinged as it bends under the rain, and they find a cave, because it's always caves on extrasolar planets, isn't it. The cave's a wide space, at least, dry and empty, though not immediately obvious how far back it goes.

As he hustles her inside, he's already asking, "Are you okay?"

But in the time they left the port and now, he's found a crate of weapons and grenades in the cargo hold, knocked out a security man and stolen his uniform and pass, and used this new shield to case the ship. There is some function going on, upstairs, Nicky can hear the music. He pauses, seeing a figure of a woman on the balcony, in a pale dress, hair pinned up, something in her hair glints in the fading sunlight. He should not stare, but there is something about her stillness that calls to him. ]

Still, after a while wandering throughout the park, the rain got to be a bit much even for her, so she headed to a nearby tree. And who should she stumble on already standing under the tree? ]
