It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they? i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note the name and fandom in the subject). • Other people reply to you by generating a number from 1 to 10. • Have fun! o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

[Hey, you know how it is. Your brain's racing 100 miles an hour, you've got too much to think about, too much to do, too much to see, etc, etc. Point is, Bart gave up on sleeping hours ago. Sometimes he can manage it, usually after a harsh mission, today? Nah, today he's kicking it back on the couch and flipping the channels at record button clicking time. He probably lasts for about half an hour of that before he's seen way too many cooking utensils infomercials to bear it any longer.

Why not check on Blue? He's probably up, ooooor doing something interesting.

You know, besides sleeping.

And hey, the run there should tire him out some right? Right.

Or so he thinks until he actually gets to Blue's door. Half a second after he's knocked, it occurs to him that maybe he should have checked the time- which is 4:34am by the way- first.]

8! ... the Prince has the best priorities okay

[The Prince likes to consider himself to be of even temper. Subzero temper, if you will. He likes to think that he gets it from his mother. But moments like this made him realize...

... he's more like his father than he's like his mother.

Which only furthers to infuriate him more, really. He means, it's bad enough that his katamari was rejected. But did the King really have to say all those things? And throw lightning bolts at him?! At the time, the Prince was too fearful to be angry, but that just means that he's angry now. So angry that he can't sleep.

The Prince, being fed up with tossing and turning and fuming, has decided to fly down to Earth to cool off. He brings a katamari with him, because he knows that once he calms down, he'll want to practice his katamari skills so he can roll one up to his father's standards the next time.

See? He's calm enough to think ahead. At least there's that.

The Prince stomps around in the forests of Scotland for a while. He even kicks over a flower. (He rights it a moment afterwards, in a moment of conscience.) Up ahead, there is a messy collection of pine needles. The Prince stares at them for a while, and then gets an idea. This would be an excellent chance to practice rolling long objects and figuring out how to compensate for the boing-y-ness of the katamari.

A couple of minutes later, and he had a nice-sized katamari made of forest floor things. He's feeling pretty good about himself when he realizes he's rolling right for a human.

Uh-oh! Stop, stop, stop! But he's rolling downhill, and...

And now he's going to it the human and the katamari will bounce off and he'll lose his hard-earned objects!]

[Tyler doesn't really sleep well anymore. He hasn't since that night, since everyone was slaughtered. Since his mother died. Since he's had to go around town hearing everyone whisper about how the former mayor was this terrible lush and wasn't it just tragic how she accidentally drowned that night.

Except it's no accident. And he can't say anything. Or do anything.

At least after Rebekah forced him to transform he's done better at letting Caroline be there for him, but it's still hard. Still, at least her presence means he doesn't have to be alone in this giant house. It's something.

He finally gives up on any pretense about sleep and gets out of bed, slipping on a pair of boxers (an old habit, it doesn't really matter now, his mom's not there to catch him sneaking around the house at the late hours) before he heads downstairs. He makes his way into the family room, grabbing one of the bottles of scotch he's left lying around. He doesn't even bother pouring a glass before he slumps on the couch and takes a swig.]

[Her first night back in her lovely Rome since her marriage seemed to be great indeed. The French king was coming, and Lucrezia Borgia was with child. Already the Vatican was in chaos, so it was obvious that none would sleep that night. Her bed is too cold, too lonely, and Lucrezia's thoughts wander back to her beloved Paulo.

She sleeps not and she ends up at the foot of the Basilica. Perhaps prayer would do her heart well.]

[ With a largely unceremonious fwumph!, Ukitake plops himself atop the mattress of the bed, its springs creaking beneath the sudden, additional weight, the covers first rustling as the God of Death deposits his bounty—box upon box of finely crafted chocolates, Belgian, Austrian, and Swiss—somewhere between himself and the other occupant of the bed, then again as he ducks beneath them himself, cozying up while maintaining a respectable amount of distance from his friend. His friend who did boast quite a distaste for anyone who dared to infringe upon his personal space, but also a friend who so happened to be sleepless as well.

Likely for different reasons, of course, but ah, misery did love company all the same. ]

Before you breathe a word about leaving you to your peace, I intend to do no such thing, nor are you anywhere close to a state of repose.

[ A Shinigami, of course, is particularly sensitive to restless energy—it is not something easily missed. And so Ukitake delves into one of the boxes, attacking the plastic wrapping, then casting the top aside. So, he's given up. Throwing on whatever clothes were within reach and stuffing his feet into a pair of shoes, he goes wandering. Somewhere, anywhere - it doesn't matter so long as maybe he'll get tired enough he'll head home and try to pass out again.

[Sleeping under the open sky wasn't something that bothered Fíli like it bothered most dwarves. He hadn't grown up underground, so the sky wasn't quite so... never-ending to him. It was beautiful, in it's own way - rather like how he imagined the inside of a vein of precious stone. Sometimes, though, the traveling itself wore Fíli out. Sometimes he found himself so tired and aching that it hurt to be so still, and he found his mind working too much to settle for the night.

Normally he would talk to Kíli, chat with his brother until eventually he simply woke up in the morning. But today he knew how tired Kíli was - he saw how quickly his brother had fallen asleep once he'd lain down, and Fíli could tell how deeply he was sleeping by just his presence near him. So, instead of waking Kíli just to listen to him talk, Fíli laid silently on his back and stared at the stars. Occasionally a sound came from him - a sigh, a huff of irritation at his inability to sleep - but he said nothing for a long time.

Finally, when the fire had burned low, he gave up. He pushed himself up on his elbows, peering around to see if anyone else was having the same troubles.]

[Quatre isn't a stranger to insomnia, but for some reason it was bothering him more than usual tonight. Maybe it was the upcoming summit meeting. Or the deal that had fallen through earlier in the week. Or maybe it was just the fact that Heero seemed like he could sleep through a bomb going off. The blond knew that wasn't possible, it was Heero after all. But right now, staring at the clock, he felt it could be.]

Heero? Are you awake?

[He hated how loud his voice sounded. He should be letting Heero get some sleep at least.]

It started off as weaving in and out of his dreams, more of an annoyance at first, like a stubborn cricket that has found a perfect hiding place somewhere near the head of one's bed. Only it keeps on, and it gets more grating.

Frodo bolts up, jolted out from sleep, and looks around for who is supposed to take watch.]

[ this is hardly a rare occurrence, this uninvited sleeplessness that weighs in his mind as munakata lays awake, blinking slowly into the darkness of his own room. the pale glow of the clock beside him only serves to complicate the situation: it's too early to stay awake, but too late for regular company. perhaps he should not have accepted the offer of coffee this morning, after all.

the whiskey bottle is almost empty, he realizes, as he reaches the dining room for a glass that could perhaps aid him somewhat. yet as soon as he began moving, what little drowsiness he had seemed to have abandoned him entirely. and yet again, he feels that familiar empty feeling in his stomach, with the dark, light chill in the otherwise empty apartment.

it's nothing he hasn't already felt many times before, yet it doesn't get any easier to bear.

well, it doesn't have to be this way. it's not like he doesn't put forth some effort of being tolerable company. to this day he hasn't yet figured out how to work that properly. it's rather vexing. but there is little comfort in that, after all, there are some who don't seem to avoid him as much as the rest...
