The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

The board of a blue dragon is filled with treasure as visually appealing as it is valuable. Beautiful works of art, intricate tapestries, manuscripts illuminated in painstaking detail, jewelry studded with sapphires, turquoise, and lapis lazuli. All of it carefully curated and displayed to advantage.

To view such magnificence, one would have to undertake a difficult climb, scaling the towering cliff side to breach the ancient fortress and pass the hall of mirrors, enduring inclement weather and evading the dragon herself. Blue dragons were said to be a vain and territorial lot, but most humans were easily discouraged by the dizzying heights and raging storm clouds. The odd lightning bolt here and there was usually enough to send them scurrying back to their own homes.

But Thor was hardly 'most humans.' In fact, he was her greatest treasure of all.

[I have two ideas maybe. So Meng Yao would absolutely try to steal an arcane book. Especially since he cultivated late and anything that would give him a boost or an advantage would be worth risking his life over. This Meng Yao would probably still be a Nie disciple or vice general.

If you prefer Jin Guangyao, well, his ass of a father would happily toss him under the bus as a bride/sacrifice to appease a dragon. He might try to escapee at first then maybe over time decide the dragon is actually more pleasant to stay with than his 'family'.]

[ The Vergesson Sanatorium burns, as does the forest around it. The broken body of the massive red dragon is still slumped over the roof of one of the buildings, and people are running to either freedom or doom, depending on their choices.

It doesn't matter much, though - not when the sight is slowly disappearing into the distance, cold air and starlight replacing the smoke and flame. Soaring through the night sky, the glimmering scales of the red's vanquisher reflect the lights of the full moon into brilliant, multicolored hues all over its body.

if bride something along the lines of sacrifice a powerful (magically imbued) child to be "the bride" but most people just assume the sacrifice uh dies probably. alternately, the kingdom is supposed to sacrifice [OTHER CHARACTER] but mutineers in the court send megumi bc they don't want him to inherit the throne over some other family member haha ha ha....

or, if dragon then it's just the other side of that same/ a similar trope in that the tradition is probably: some misguided village over decades/centuries has got it into their head they need to send a 'bride' every X amount of years for prosperity or some bs. as a 'dragon' megumi would just be a dragon like image made of shadow with other 'shadow' animals around him and...neither eats nor weds the 'bride'. he would ask for some blood though! and then let them go. tho if they want to stay and kick around a shadow garden....that's chill w him but he's not v social...?
