truthfully, as much as Margaery likes to pretend otherwise, marrying into the Mikaelson family is a solid arrangement that will cement her own family's reputation and round out the lovely unions her older brothers have managed (somehow) to accomplish. and the sadder, far more grim truth of it is: every moment she's been the precious only daughter of the Tyrells has been leading up to this moment, this outcome that almost feels as final as death.

for no one ever speaks of what happens after marriage, only the fervent need for her to secure it.

oh, her grandmother has taught her some things, of course. there's no one who can toe the line between perfect lady and audacious flirt like she does, and it's earned her envy and begrudging respect as much as it's worked in her favor. she enjoys it, some of the more perceptive ladies whisper, and Margaery knows they'd be appalled to learn that they're actually right. women in their society must make the best of their circumstances, and she's genuinely come to relish the power she feels when she's trailed by men's desperate eyes as she laughs and dances the night away.

which is only one of the reasons why she's terribly vexed that her fun will be cut short; with a match already decided, she will be expected to act proper, a woman worthy of Niklaus Mikaelson, someone who possibly generates even more attention than she does for how desirable he is. and if her other reasons for disliking this match stem from the fact that he's never once been lured in by her charms, well -

Margaery sits up straighter as Lord Mikaelson's arrival is announced, squaring her shoulders with her expression melting into her most winsome smile. and yet, even as her betrothed enters the room, Margaery is distracted by the look her grandmother gives her before she takes her leave.
