[ The lights were dazzling. Faintly, James was aware of the sound of violins stirring to life, bows drawing against taut strings as a soft melody floated through the din of the twinkling party. James Deerling stood at attention, dressed in his livery and representing the Spring Court as the entire kingdom celebrated its crown princess' birthday. Though James had wished for even a moment alone with the heiress, she'd been easily swept away by the party guests who each commanded her attention.
And that left James with...well, her father. ]
It's a beautiful party, isn't it, James? [ High Lord Deerling commented, his eyes twinkling with mirth and pride as he sipped from his goblet of wine and watched the guests glide across the dance floor. Something in James' eyes burned as he sought out the familiar golden crown of hair he'd become so accustomed to in years past; the way Faun seemed to float, like an angel descending upon her subjects. His throat was thick with repressed desire as he ignored the stirrings of magic deep in his gut, tugging him towards her. The High Lord took his silence as agreement and continued on, contemplative. ] It would be even more beautiful, perhaps, if you had a mate by your side.
A mate? [ James' eyes slid over to the High Lord's, something stuttering in his chest at the look. He tore his eyes from where they'd been roving over Faun's face, his own face blanching in kind as he said-- ] I can assure you, there is no greater accomplishment for me than to protect your family--to protect the princess.

[ Turning twenty-three was supposed to mean something, but for Faun Doefoot, it was just another reminder of a year gone by without the returned affections of her favored love match. There was plenty to celebrate, of course, given how much the crown princess had accomplished throughout the changing seasons; she'd proven to be a remarkable healer whose abilities were rivaled only by her dearest mother, and in terms of wits and sensibilities, she was widely considered to be every bit as clever as she was beautiful. Still - things were not quite right in the nymphet's view of the world, and despite the glittering grandeur of the extravagant birthday party that had been thrown on her behalf, she found herself teeming with a combination of both frustration and fervor.
And the source of said emotions was currently engaged in conversation with her father. ] If Captain Deerling wishes to remain unattached for the time being, papa, then what right do we have to insist otherwise? [ With all the otherworldly grace of the woodland creature she was named for, Faun fluttered into view; wearing a dazzling gown of shimmering rose silk, and with her spun-gold hair cascading down along the elegant expanse of her bare back in long, gleaming waves, she was entirely aware of her splendorous beauty, in the exact same way that one might have been aware of the day's weather, or their favorite kind of music to listen to. ] Really, it isn't as if he's put any sort of effort into settling down with a mate in all the years I've known him. At least - [ She paused to demure, with a pointed upwards tilt of her regal chin that allowed her claret-green eyes to pierce into James' with all the intensity of a freshly-forged jewel. ] - that's what I've heard throughout the castle's ever-changing gossip mill.

[ can be either role! normally he'd take on the bodyguard role due to his regular profession but could also be the guarded because of nephilim things. ]

[As Guarded⦠Look, the first Shrike was a hero for a long time. He put a lot of bad guys away⦠you know, until he started just killing them, and alienating his former allies until they finally had to take him down and put him away. The point is, he had no shortage of enemies, and if one of them found out his identity, and that he had a totally normal kid who had no idea about the truth of their father? Well maybe that kid is now a target. Thankfully even if things went all wrong, maybe there's still allies or associates of old allies that want to look out for the kid.
As Guard β¦yeah Wren absolutely knows who their father is and actually does have powers they're hiding teenage superhero who is definitely not working with anyone's permission in order to hide their secret identity as much as possible and has a responsibility streak a mile wide and a chip on their soldier trying to redeem their father's name and do Good in the world, ready for action.]

[ gen is good too ^_^ well! he hides his superpower which honestly is just super speed anyway (though applied right it can be formidable!) so he'd probably be guarded, which might be funny once the guard learns of jiwoo's ability which maybe would make them think he doesn't even need them there depending on the threat! but he could be a 'protector' type too since he has a habit of stepping in even if he's outclassed (his ratio is p good tho anyway...) i doubt he'd be contracted on purpose though, more of a happenstance and then he's worried about you so he sticks by you :) happy to chat it out in dm if you'd like! for shipping, m/m leaning! ]

[ context: it's Valentine's Day. yes, we just had an event about this, and no, i'm not going with the same exact event. the details of this nebulous year's disaster is kept vague for the purposes of convenience: all we need to know now, at this juncture, is that Ritsuka needs some bodyguarding from certain Servants who are willing to murder to give her chocolates, cookies, whatever.

after fending off Kiyohime for the past hour or so, then swatting away chocolate (let's all hope it was just chocolate) skulls from Salome, Saito wonders if they shouldn't just Shift to some harmless segment of time where they can ride this cursed holiday out.
sword at his hip and expression tired, he nudges Ritsuka into the direction of the fight simulator. that way, even if someone manages to find them, he'll have plenty of space to brawl.
