Hades & Persephone.

Persephone was gathering flowers with the Oceanids along with Artemis and Athena—the Homeric Hymn says—in a field when Hades came to abduct her, bursting through a cleft in the earth. Demeter, when she found her daughter had disappeared, searched for her all over the earth with torches. In most versions she forbids the earth to produce, or she neglects the earth and in the depth of her despair she causes nothing to grow. Helios, the sun, who sees everything, eventually told Demeter what had happened and at length she discovered the place of her abode. Finally, Zeus, pressed by the cries of the hungry people and by the other deities who also heard their anguish, forced Hades to return Persephone. Hades indeed complied with the request, but first he tricked her, giving her some pomegranate seeds to eat. Persephone was released by Hermes, who had been sent to retrieve her, but because she had tasted food in the underworld, she was obliged to spend a third of each year (the winter months) there, and the remaining part of the year with the gods above. but even that hardest of hearts unhardened suddenly when he saw her there: persephone in her mother’s garden, sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair, the smell of flowers she held in her hand and the pollen that fell from her fingertips. and suddenly, hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips To live your life in darkness is no easy task. Evil may be just a point of view - one you may not ascribe to yourself - but a black heart or a ruthless mind is hardly quieted. While you don't regret what you've done, at least not outwardly, you do wonder if there isn't something more. Grey morality has discolored your world. That is, until you see them. They are beautiful, pure, good: everything that you are not. You should be annoyed or at least ambivalent to their presence; after all, they serve you no purpose, promise you no gain. But oddly enough, you are drawn to them, and not even in hopes to destroy or corrupt. No, you want to have them, to keep them with you. What to do with this newfound feeling? Act on it, of course. You've never let anything stop you before. What you don't realize (or perhaps do, you just don't exactly care) is that the object of your...affection may not be too keen on being taken what they see as prisoner. Yet you only have their best interests at heart! Still, you do care for them, in your own fashion, more than almost anyone else, so surely a deal can be struck... You just couldn't bear to lose them. This meme, obviously, is inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone. Feel free to be as literal or as loose with your interpretations as you'd like. Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and what role you'd like your character to play. Reply to others. Play anything and any scenario that fits within the theme.

[ If there was anything positive to be said about the Underworld, it was that its beauty somehow managed to rival that of the Garden's, albeit in the form of shadow and darkness rather than sunlight and purity. Even still, Aurora found herself drawn to the one place in the Kingdom of the Undead that just barely reminded her of home: the moonlit meadow deep within the twisted Elderwood Forest whose depths she was able to access with a well-timed jump down from the juliet balcony outside of her bedroom.

It was late at night when she fled, and the only reason she'd been able to sneak away in the first place was due to the arrival of a foreign diplomat whose sudden presence had required the undivided attention of Aurora's captor, and hell's most cunning prince - none other than the Nightmare King himself. The men who stood guard outside of her chambers had been called upon as well, and with them gone, it had taken little more than a flutter of Aurora's gossamer wings for the young nymph to escape from her Rapunzel-esque tower and disappear into the woods with the wind at her back.

There would be nothing permanent about her brief bit of freedom, of course; there never was, and it was just as the Princess of Dawn was dipping the dainty tips of her toes into the moon river that she heard the all-too familiar sound of footsteps approaching somewhere behind her - except they were paws, each of which was the size of her faerie face and tipped with razor-sharp claws - and Aurora stiffened. Without turning around, there would be only the telltale quiver of her iridescent wings and the slight waver in her melodic voice as it chimed softly through the night to say - ]

And here I thought you'd be drawing up battle plans well into first morning light. [ He knew exactly where he'd be able to find her. Burrowed in the heart of the Underworld, a kingdom of onyx and obsidian black, glittered a moonlit meadow in the middle of the Elderwood Forest. It was, perhaps, the closest thing to the rose and gold-colored gardens from whence she came. Perhaps the young heiress thought that she was quite crafty, disappearing from her chambers in the dead of night when he was preoccupied with foreign diplomants.

Or perhaps she merely didn't realize he'd expected her to run the first chance she got.

It didn't change anything, of course. As Alexander stalked through the forest, its haunting melody beckoning him deeper into the woods and his dark cloak billowing out behind him like a storm cloud, the King of Nightmares felt a hush trickle through the dark woods. He shifted, then, finding that his beast form was a more astute predator in the hunt for his glimmering prey. There was a golden, shimmering cord that bound him to the middle of the forest, and he followed along its tethered line, his shadows slipping through the trees as it sought out that same familiar, glimmering pulse that he'd become accustomed to as of late. ]

You speak boldly for someone with little power here. [ He communicated through their bond, a low, deep rumbling as he watched her dip her toes into the water. He moved forward, his lips curling back into a snarl as she openly defied him. ] I've gutted creatures for less defiance, princess.
