He found he enjoyed the tech shows, these days. They were a standard thing, for...well, everyone in the military, really. It wasn't that he particularly cared for weapons, and hadn't for a long time. They were things he had to use, and after that, he didn't want to see them. But it was a bit like a carnival, to him, seeing all these promises about energy weapons when he'd been shot at by staff weapons approximately every day for the past...seven years? How long had it been? Long.

But they served good food at these things. And he got to be ahead of the curve. And Sam was here, somewhere, making them look good and undoubtedly feeling like a kid in a candy store seeing some of the advancements that they - and to a large extent she - had discovered, and quietly slid into the public view, suitably modified.

But for his part, he stood aside, near some of the booths with the new tv's, tapping his finger on a ginger ale.

Sheik didn’t know his parents. He was raised in Kakariko by an old woman who was more insane than sane. Despite her… unique personality and view on life she had taught him quite a bit of things. About himself, about the Sheikah and the Royal Family. She enjoyed the legends of their people and those secrets that the Sheikah were supposed to pass down through history. Hyrule was a Kingdom full of bloodshed and anger, and it’s Royal Family had many secrets that it wanted to keep. Secrets the Sheikah tribe were responsible for.

It was a Kingdom bound to its own destiny, a fate it couldn’t avoid. With each incarnation of the Princess of Destiny the Hero followed. It was an endless cycle, Impaz said. He believed her too, especially when the Twilight came. The Hero saved Hyrule, the Princess stood above them once again and like the Sheikah were supposed to the legend needed to be written.

Sheik took it upon himself, Impaz was far too old and far too insane to be allowed anywhere near Hyrule Castle. She handed him a harp, an old worn leather bound book with the Sheikah crest, and set him on his way. According to passing gossip he got the Princess was attempting to rebuild the Kingdom one alliance at a time. Getting the Kingdom on her side was supposed to be the first step, uniting Hyrule once more while the Castle, and Castle Town by extension, was rebuilt.

He didn’t know what happened to the King, if he was still alive, Old Kakariko wasn’t exactly within every traveler's book to get gossip from. There didn’t seem to be much information to get on it either as he made his way through Castle Town, everyone was too interested in how the plaza was going to be expanded on and when the Princess would trade her title for that of ‘Queen’.

The people that took notice of him almost seemed to flinch back, first noticing his uniform and then the piercing red gaze that looked back at them. Sheikah, still to this day, was not Hyrule’s favorite race. Those that gawked were quickly warded off by a single look, the red eyes of the Sheikah Tribe supposedly being the most ‘unsettling thing’ about them. He didn’t take offense, it simply wasn’t worth his time and strength to do so. He had a job to complete.

Getting inside the Castle was a bit harder than he actually expected it to be. The title “Last of the Sheikah Warriors” didn’t get him very far. Not that he entirely expected it to but in his defense, they had asked who he was. The old book that Impaz had given him though was apparently far more valuable than he had thought. The guards looked to it with interest before finally whispering between each other and then sending him through.

The Princess must have been a scholar or something of the sort if a book interested them. Then again, from his glance through, it had been written by every single attendant to the Princess of Destiny. It carried knowledge on the Triforce of Wisdom, the Goddess Hylia, the ‘Zelda’ of each generation.

Sheik stepped through the doors to the throne room, book still held in his arms, and stopped at the base of the steps where the Princess sat. She was beautiful, long brown hair (unusual for Zelda according to the book) and stunning blue eyes. Her face though, it was almost like looking in a mirror. It was almost unsettling enough for him to lose his words, almost, he was a professional. Shifting he reached up to adjust his mask and cowl before offering a bow, his own long hair held in a braid falling over his shoulder.

“Princess, my name is Sheik. It’s the duty of the Sheikah to transcribe the story of the Princess of Destiny and the Hero. If you’d allow me a moment of time to talk to you, the Sheikah tribe would be grateful. In exchange, we can offer you any information you need, as is our duty to the Royal Family to assist you.”

( Okay, I know we have a thread ongoing at the moment but I considered this AU idea and it won't leave me the fuck alone. They're both single dads who have met (fumbling through a dating app tbh), hooked up and actually really like one another! Fast forward a couple of months into their dating and have decided to get together one day and introduce their kids (for some reason them both having daughters makes me laugh) because clearly this is the next step!!

Bonus fun: their kids know one another from school and are best friends already. )
