[ Keiichi knows well enough from his 'treasure hunts' with Rena that he isn't entirely agile. In fact, it's actually downright embarrassing how out of shape he is. So, when Mion suggested that their adventure for the day should be a hike, why did he enthusiastically agree, fist pump and all? What went through his mind? Present Keiichi would like to have a talk with past Keiichi.

Rena's endurance is insane, to the point that Keiichi's not even sure if she's human, so he understands why she's managing just fine. Mion too, being sporty and all. But Satoshi? Dude's as skinny as he is! He knows he plays baseball, but come on. He's totally just trying to look cool in front of Satoko. And Keiichi definitely isn't annoyed about that at all.

[ It's nearly a sixth sense at this point to know when someone is about to get hurt. Satoshi most likely developed it after spending so many years looking after Satoko as her big brother. Whether it's something inherent to big brothers or simply his personality, it alerts him and he checks on Keiichi.

The other boy had been lagging behind the group for a while now, grunting and huffing as they meandered through the mountains of Hinamizawa. When that turned into a yelp, Satoshi instinctively came to Keiichi's rescue.

Thankfully, he'd slowed down to keep Keiichi in his sights—call it a premonition, but Satoshi had the feeling something bad would happen eventually. Satoshi closes the remaining distance between them and reaches out for Keiichi's flailing hand, firmly grasping his fingers and pulling him forward. ]

Ahaha, that would've been a bad tumble, Keiichi.

[ He chuckles, leveling Keiichi back onto the stepping stone. Satoshi's smile is a bright one. ]

He suddenly realizes Satoshi is still holding his hand, and giving him one of the most bright and innocent smiles he's ever seen. This dude was definitely a prince in a past life. ]

I-I'm fine! Let's go! We can't lose to the girls! [ Keiichi says, quickly imbued with the strength to keep going. Embarrassment is a powerful motivator. ]

[ Oblivious as always, Satoshi doesn't think too deeply about Keiichi's flustered response. He chalks it up to embarrassment from nearly losing his balance and slipping. However, he is worried about Keiichi and whether or not he can successfully cross the stream on his own. The water is rushing between the jagged stones like a warning—if Keiichi fell, he'd undoubtedly end up drenched and with a possible broken ankle.

So, there's really only one thing for Satoshi to do. ]

You're welcome. But... [ He tightens his grip on Keiichi's fingers. Satoshi's still pleasantly smiling, if a little bit amused about the situation. ] ...you're not used to this, right? I'll help you, so don't let go of my hand, Keiichi.
