1. Friendly hug - this person is your good pal, and you just wanna give them a fond squeeze to let them know.

2. Romantic hug - you just want to be closer, so wrap your arms around them, maybe rub their back some...

3. Bear hug - maybe you haven't seen them in a while, so how about a giant hug that lifts them off their feet

4. Hug from behind - surprise them, guess who?! or maybe they're having a bad day, cheer them up.

5. Awkward hug - maybe it's on accident, but whatever the case is, you can't help but feel a little nervous about hugging them.

6. Reluctant hug - whoever this person is, you have to hug them, better make it quick!

Her parents aren't pleased. They have Guests over, and while Mira isn't supposed to ever show that she's a Sentinel, she's supposed to be even more un-Sentinel-like when they have guests over. But she can't control the overload of emotions invading her nose, her skin, her eyes at the moment.

So she's in her room, murmuring feverishly to herself as she rocks back and forth in a corner, waiting for the arrival of whichever Guide her parents have hired to look after her.

It's not what he wants to do with his life. It'll be easier, someday, when he's found his Sentinel to follow about, simply be near so that his attention can be on his work, his art, his genuine proper life. He's not designed to be a Guide the way others are. He's designed to be a bard.

But, well, they're certainly paying him enough for the evening that there's no harm in him heading up for a moment to tap on their daughter's door instead of playing. He's designed to be a bard, but being a Guide comes naturally from something inside him. "...milady? I'm coming in, aye?"

There's no answer from her, not even a response. For some reason, she can feel him coming, and that's not usual at all. Distracted by the overload of feelings, though, she doesn't think of it for too long - merely lets out a shuddered whimper as his approaching figure starts to cut through the deluge.

That's odd to - that he doesn't have to touch her for her to start calming down.

It's not quite the same. He can always feel Sentinels, true, but not like this. Not like a grip on his heart before he's even properly in the room.

"...easy does." Not locked; easy to slip in and shut the door, start moving slowly to the corner of the room, get on his knees for the actual approach. She's rather young, rather pretty, and more than anything rather instantly familiar as he moves closer. "Mirabelle, isn't it? Easy does, now. I've got you now."

Already her breath starts gasping as her facilities begin to return to her, and she shakes slightly, his words like a breath of fresh air after being smothered. She only manages to whisper a quiet "Thank--" before her voice fails her and she begins to shudder again.

Like a leaf in the wind. He can't imagine what it must be like on the other side of this connection. Can't imagine what the world's doing to her now.

Knows it will get better as he drops down properly to lean against the wall, reaches calmly and carefully to pull her in against his chest, half into his lap. "You just breathe, dearheart. You thank me when you're breathing."

This is different. She can tell it immediately. No Guide she had ever had before pulled her close so easily - they'd always remained a distant presence. And no Guide before had made her instinctively cling to his shirt, had enveloped her in a feeling of safety as soon as their skin touched.

She's sighing like normal soon afterwards, fingers hesitantly pulling away from his chest as she looks up at him. There's an amazed look on her face before she realizes it's there and shyly brushes a lock of hair out of her eyes, averting her gaze from him. "I'm... sorry to have been an inconvenience. It's... a pleasure to meet you?"

This is different. It takes him a moment to realize that her tight grip is on his shirt, not actually on his heart. Her settling back into the world feels like a genuine relief, kicks back a warm feeling that settles comfortably over him.

"Not like you did this on purpose, milady." He could, reasonably, let go of her now. Do something more civil like hold her hand, simply sit beside her. Holding her close like this and smoothing her arm gently feels like the stronger choice. "Just lucky I was here."

"You're... sure I wasn't an inconvenience?" Father always says she's one. It's hard not to believe it sometimes. In this stranger's arms, it's very easy to think that he won't be bothered if she curls up close to him in his lap.

"Very lucky. I... I'm Mirabelle Lucia. It's... thank you very much." She glances up at him with a hesitant smile.

It's affirming, having her settle for the moment, curl into his lap and relax in his arms. Legitimizes the desire not to let go just yet.

"Inconvenience is a world less dignified than you, Milady Mirabelle." There's a fairly pronounced scar under the left side of his jaw to attest to that. "It's honestly my pleasure." Half a second's thinking gets him unwinding a hand to offer to her. "Cynric. Pleasure."

Her laughter is abrupt, joyous, quickly stifled. She pulls back just enough to shake his hand, keeping her eyes on his the entire time. "Cynric." She might just keep holding onto his hand. Hopefully he won't comment about it, or she might just go a brilliant shade of red. "It's... you're not like the other Guides I've known."

Or she might manage to make herself flustered and flushed all by herself.

"I'd imagine not." If only because he wanted to believe that what felt special wasn't just that she was different. They were different. The pair of them, not just the things she was doing to his heart. His fingers squeeze hers slightly.

"I-- um..." She laughs again, ducking her head to try to hide it. Also to look at their hands, which just serves to make her more incoherent. After a moment, "where are you from?" That's a safe question, isn't it?

"Quite far north of here, Lady Mirabelle." There's still little spikes of nerves he can feel from her. Normal, human, completely safe levels of emotion, but certainly something to prompt him to keep his thumb smoothing protectively over the back of her hand. "Up th' mountains. Quite beautiful land, really. You ought t' make the time to visit."

Be, well. Away from here, where she'd been taught she was inconvenient.

"I'd... I'd like that. I'm afraid I wouldn't be allowed to, but... I'd like to." She looks up at him, then carefully twines her fingers through his. "To be honest... I don't really know what it's like outside these four walls."

"Imagine it shouldn't be so bad with a Guide."

Not that he doesn't perfectly well understand she's not allowed out because she was a Lady. It just felt nicer to pretend it was something that could be controlled.

"Well... it's hard to find a good Guide. And my... I'm usually-- it's usually harder for me to come down from an... an episode." In other words, it didn't usually take her only five minutes to come back like it had today.

It's special. This moment is special. It's even somewhat possible, the back of his mind nags, that this is what happens when the Sentinel and Guide properly meant for each other come together.

Except, well, how could he be meant to Guide a high-born lady like her?

"Well, you've been a right love today, haven't you."

"Well, I-- I've not exactly... that's very kind of you to say after I've bothered you so much." She ducks her head to press an innocent kiss to the back of his hand before pulling hers away. Any longer, and she's fairly sure her heart will burst out of her chest.

"Any day I'm thanked and not first slapped for helping is a good one, dearheart." But he'll take the removal of her hand from his as a sign. His fingers squeeze her arm before he starts to shift. "Let's get you on your feet, aye?"

Let her brush herself off. Stop... touching her.

"Why... would you be slapped?" She asks, reaching out impulsively to cling to his sleeve as he shifts away. Getting to her feet is easy. Pulling away from him is not so much. She'll stay closer to him than exactly proper even once she's standing straight.

No one can say he's not making the effort to stand back from her, to stop touching her, to be respectful of their ranks. If they're a bit too close, well, she's had rather a bad episode. He's being a good Guide.

"The rage, ma'am. People don't always have their-- best minds on, when they're in a state like that. And, well, when you've got... just some random help rather than your... own bonded, it... can be rather ugly in the calming down."

"Oh. Right." That does happen. "That's why Mother usually hires a few Guides. Just in case. I mean... sometimes I need... restraining." Not this time. Of course, no one else had appeared as a beacon of safety like he had.

He knows what she means. He's seen it before, after all; children, even, who could all but rip a grown man in half in a fit. He should just nod. He should be deferential to her position.

He's never felt this close to someone he didn't know, and the words are out before he's actually had a thought. "If you were any more restrained, eh, I'd be afraid for your breathing."

That brings a splutter to her lips, a giggle slipping out with it. "What?" A proper smile adorns her lips as she looks up at him. "What do you mean by that?"
