THE (EVERYTHING) SCHOOL AU MEME

HOW TO PLAY:
1) Post a comment with your character's name and fandom in the header.
2) Include any preferences or scenarios you'd particularly be interested in exploring.
3) Optional: Include a few starting comments so people responding have something to play off of!
4) Tag around, and get some god damn schooling.
5) Warn if your thread has triggering content! Smut is of course allowed.

The Role.
- TEACHER. You're here to impart your knowledge and wisdom, whatever form that might take.
- STUDENT. An attendee of the school.
- PRINCIPAL. You're in charge of this madhouse. It's going to ruin your reputation, your funding and your sanity.
- ADMINISTRATION/STAFF. Secretary? Nurse? Janitor? You're one of the people who keep the school running.
- ALUMNI. You were once a part of this school. Now you're just visiting. Brings back memories, doesn't it?
- PARENTS. Concerned for your child, or do you just want to dump 'em and get rid of 'em?
- ADVISOR. Well, you're the babysitter. Congratulations; now you have a squad of students to take care of. Gotta make sure they don't get drunk, hook up, or just spend all night sitting around and crying for their parents.

The School.
- MILITARY SCHOOL. Are you a troublemaker, or is this your family's dream for you? One way or another, you've made it to military school. Be prepared for a rigid schedule, strict appearance guidelines, and a lot of practice standing extremely still.
- DANCE ACADEMY. Prepare to get worked to the bone. After all, there are hundreds of dancers-to-be, and only a handful of slots to make it into the company. You'll be constantly competing, constantly dancing, and constantly working to show yourself above the rest of the crowd.
- ART/MUSIC SCHOOL At an easel or at a tablet, with an instrument or with your voice, you're here to learn how to pull your creative impulse from inside you and show it to everyone.
- MAGIC SCHOOL. Whether Hogwarts or an old-school Mage-craft academy, or a necromancer's school or an informal training ground in witchcraft, time for you to learn how to harness that natural magical ability of yours. Better hope you don't run into any disasters along the way.
- SUPERHERO SCHOOL. Sky High? Xavier's Institute for the Gifted? Or are you training in quiet and in secret, honing your supernatural abilities for the purposes of some dark government, some hidden purpose? Better hope you're ready to cope with a roommate who has no control of their powers. And remember to think quietly; we have a lot of psychics in this building.
- BOARDING SCHOOL. European or American, this is old-school, with bricks and ivy and, possibly, only one gender allowed. Is it a family tradition, or did your parents just want to get you the hell out of the house?
- 1950S AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL. Break out those poodle skirts and let's go to the sock hop! Maybe go on a date with the cutest boy in school. If he has a car, he could take you to the drive-in.
- 1980S AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL. Most any teen movie stereotype you can think of originated here, in the '80s. Maybe Breakfast Club-style up a detention, or Ferris Bueller a day off. Maybe just try to survive in the crowd of Freaks and Geeks.
- ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE. Out on the prairie, in the middle of nowhere. Every single student in town can fit in one room, and they're all taught by one teacher. Have fun mingling with your range of classmates; you're probably stuck with them for the rest of your life.
- MONASTERY. Education is rare, in days like this. If you want to learn, you have to enter a house of God. Perhaps you've been sent here to keep out of trouble, or as part of a tithe. Perhaps you want to dedicate your life to the pursuit of the divine. In the mean time, the monks or nuns will take their time to educate you, on how to read and write, about history and philosophy.
- SPACE SCHOOL. Welcome to Starfleet Academy. Or a space academy a la Ender's Game. Or its equivalent. Here, you'll learn about navigation, and physics, and combat against aliens. Xenolinguistics. Survival. Best of luck!
- OTHER. Anything you can think of!

Space School: First day (grue form)
Grues took naturally to zero-gravity, as a race. So Some had always been told. He had not expected to love it. He was supposed to be being shown around the school, having arrived mid-term, but it was so hard not to simply push off of the laddered walls and play.


Monastery: (humanish
Some was an open secret among the students at the monastery. He was not precisely a student himself, would certainly never join the clergy, but he lived on the grounds, a discreet figure who slipped from building to building at dawn and dusk, always dressed in concealing dark robes. The closest anyone saw, generally, was when he joined a class, slipping in always a few minutes late, always at the back, always leaving the instant they were dismissed.

I'm thinking teacher/principal, especially fond of him maybe as a dance academy instructor teaching people how to harness their energy wow I feel like a bad person even just writing that.

Also happy to go with art/music, magic, superhero, boarding, space, and the one-room one. I'm not immediately interested in the others, but if I get a good hook, I'm in. ]

[Masaomi is lucky to have gotten in, and he knows it. He'd only been half serious about auditioning, but he'd told his friends about his 'plans', and then he couldn't not do it. He can actually sing, but he hadn't expected to actually get accepted.

The thing is, what Masaomi has always had working for him is his attitude, and as much as he tries to keep that up, it's not enough to get by. Not in a place full of people who are genuinely talented, and have been practicing hard for years.

So when he's asked to meet with Mr. Shaw after classes, of course he's worried. But what else can he do? Not going isn't really an option. So here's a knock on the door.]

Chrome is a bitty thing, and young for her class. She was in the advanced illusion track instead of the intro one.

Unfortunately her scores in almost everything else were below average, which was why she found herself shifting from foot to foot outside of Mr. Hale's office, working up her courage to ask for tutoring.

[it's not that ariel's a bad dancer. she's not. she isn't that girl you cast your eyes away from when she starts to move out of secondhand embarrassment.

but she's just not particularly good, either. granted, she's better outdoors - where she's more relaxed, where it's more open, where she doesn't have the hard wood of the stage under her feet and the walls staring her down every time she missteps. but even out there, it's like her legs won't listen to her, that her feet have minds of their own. she attempts a leap and it ends as tragically as a dance step can: she falls. it doesn't hurt, and she winds up rolling for a moment in the grass and heaving a loud sigh as she comes to rest on her back.]

Maybe I'm just not supposed to get it.

[the cape and the mask sit next to winslow as he himself sits at a table in the library, paper scattered around him. staff paper. some crumpled, some scribbled out. but he's gotten pretty far on the page he has in front of him: 3/4 of the way down and he shows no signs of stopping, either, decorating the paper in dots and notes and lines that he reads as easily as words.

sometimes, he raises his arms and plays some invisible piano in front of him - it's fake. there may be plenty of invisible things (and people) at this school, but his imagined piano is not one of them. but if anyone can see him and this likely ridiculous display, he pays no attention. that, or - perhaps just as likely, he can't see them.

whatever, it's better than swooping from ceilings and looking like a bird all the time. seriously: worst mask ever.]

School is almost over, with fifteen minutes left during geography. Glancing at Hikaru to her left, Orihime subtly flips a note onto his desk.]

At least her neighbor across the street is cute. She's been waiting for a chance to run into him and talk, but there's always someone around who could be listening and apt to ruin her linguistic secret.]

[She sits on the front steps of her temporary home, simply enjoying the fresh air and sunshine while she eats her breakfast and reviews her math notes. The last thing she wants is to be indoors when her host brother emerges from his half-hour-long shower. And if her neighbor shows up, maybe she'll wave at him.
