NOT just A ROBOT shipping meme There's always a right tool for the job, be it as simple as a hammer for a nail or on up to the much, much more complex. In this, the near future, the new tool for the abstract, post-modern job is no longer from the humble tool box - it's robots. Robots have taken over most sectors, such as assembly, law enforcement, and even health care. Things run so much smoother when they're automated. Yet the most impressive factor is that robots have just recently begun to enter a sector previously believed to require human touch: the personal sector. From personal assistants to robo bodyguards to pleasurebots, most anyone who's anyone has a personal robot these days. Of course, humanity being the narcissistic charmers we are, all "companion" sector robots are made in our own beautiful image, or close to it. But you know this. You have a personal robot, after all...or you are one. Whether owner or robot, it's important to remember one key rule: robots, no matter how human they appear, cannot feel emotions. Any appearances thereof are programming in the AI. Robots certainly, absolutely, cannot fall in love. Again, any appearances thereof are programming in the AI. If that's not the case, and "love" still seems present... ...well, a toll that no longer functions correctly may not be right for the job. HOW TO PLAY ➟ Comment with your character, preference, and whether you want to play a human or a robot. Reply to others. Use the RNG to choose a prompt or pick one yourself. OWNER ➟ Long Time Owner → You and your robot are a well-oiled machine, no pun intended. New Purchase → Congratulations, you have your brand new personal bot! Second Hand → Someone else owned this robot before you, but it can't be too damaged. There's no way you could afford a brand new one, anyway. For Science! → Your interests in robots are purely scientific. No matter how yours begins to act towards you, honest! Rescue → Whether you took them from the dump or from a bad owner, you brought this robot from the jaws of deletion. Reluctant → You never wanted a robot, but you've got one thrust on you anyway. Cruel → They're just a fancy computer, so you'll treat them however you like. See the Humanity → Even if you know it's all machinery and programming, you can't help but see the human side of your robot. They shouldn't have to be a servant. What's Real and What's Not → The lines are beginning to blur between real people and their emotions and your robot. Incompatible → You can't be with a machine, either romantically or sexually. You're simply not compatible. Too Engrossed → They say you've created a fantasy world. You're forgetting reality, or choosing to ignore it. Don't Care → You won't listen to what the others say; you know how you feel. Have to Pull Away → The close relationship you had with your robot has to be put aside for your own good. Live a Normal Life → As much as you can, you and your robot live like a normal couple. Bad End → Your robot is taken away, reprogrammed, or destroyed. ROBOT ➟ The Perfect Robot → You know what you and exactly what you were made to do. You will not stray. More Human than Human → Whoever programmed you made you to be just like a human. Conflicted → There is no way you could have what they call "feelings." But what is this stirring in your circuitry? Confused → Why do people treat you like a robot? You're a living thing, damn it! Damaged → Somehow, you've been corrupted. You're a blank slate and have to be cared for, though it should be the opposite. Or it could be that you're showing erratic behavior that no robot should... Shown Kindness → When you're treated kindly by a human, you are unsure how to process it. It makes you feel - content. No Longer Just a Program → Your "love" and "affection" may have been shades and imitations at first, but that's not the case any longer. Obsolete Model → You know you're old. Will you be forced to leave your master's side? Jealousy → A robot should not feel jealous. Still, you envy those close to your master. Job is Personal → You were programmed to protect or to serve, though you also do it because you...care Second Chance → Your old master tossed you aside and now you are wary. But you've been given another chance instead of being used for scrap. Rogue → There is no way you will be tied to the oppressive system. You refuse to serve the Living Things. Somehow, though, you've become aligned with one. One of a Kind → There are no other robots like you, and perhaps you are intended for a sinister fate. Rather than face your true duty, you have escaped to take refuge with a human. Specialty → You were created specifically for this one special person. Reprogrammed → Because of previous defects, you were taken back to factory settings before. However, that treacherous virus, "love," is bubbling back up. Android → You can't just forget the part of you that was - still is - organic. Learn to Be Human → Despite the odds and the prejudices you both will face, you have decided to live as a free, living person with the one you care for most. Bad End → You're to be junked, impacted, wiped clean, or taken away from your owner.

[She doesn't resent leaving home. Supporting her family meant seeking employment wherever it was offered, including on the edge of a bustling city hundreds of miles away. What she hated was the loneliness of being separated from them, the claustrophobia of an empty apartment.

Empty until just recently.

In the quiet moments after dinner one night, seated at the rickety kitchen table that was among her only furniture, Lys glances sideways at the android she'd brought home from a garbage dump. As a mechanic, and a junior one at that, repairing the structural damage had taken all of her skill and countless hours of hard work. It wasn't like she could afford to buy what was needed; her paycheck was spent on bills and the bare necessities, with anything left over sent directly to her family. Fixing up "6O"—per the manufacturing label nestled within the android's internals—had taken weeks of scrounging parts from junkyards that bordered the wealthier neighborhoods, of salvaging the right components and borrowing the right tools, of recycling scrap and refuse into something useful. Of scraping her fingers on sharp edges, scarring her hands by digging through junk, enduring shocks from stray voltage as she threaded wires and tubes into place. Her second job at a watch repair shop had given her enough finesse to complete the more delicate repair work, but Lys knew next to nothing about programming or coding. She'd simply activated 6O's frame and hoped for the best.

And now...]

I, um....I brought you something today.

[ 6O's memory was damaged to the point where she could not genuinely recall what she had been doing before winding up in Lys' care. She knew she was a logistics and communications android, but beyond that, she could recall nothing, really. The damage to her suggested she'd been dinged up fairly hard, but... Again. Nothing.

And honestly, as far as she was concerned, that was fine. Her past was a dark, frightening cloud. There was trauma within it, something she was not willing to explore, not yet.

But her present, living with Lys, taking care of her humble home, cooking for her, tending to her needs in gratitude for bringing her back online. ]

Oh! You didn't have to go out of your way for me, you know...

[Smiling at that, she rubs the back of her neck with a calloused hand. Her right one, specifically, hiding the scarred knuckles and palm.]

Don't worry, it wasn't out of the way. There's a florist right next to the grocery I always go to, and I thought...well...

[It goes unsaid that she's never taken 6O to those stores. Or to any store. After finding 6O in the garbage dump, Lys had been forced to bring her home in several trips, towing the dense, heavy pieces behind her bike on the cargo trailer she used for groceries. And home was where she'd kept 6O ever since; too nervous about putting undue strain on the android's ligaments and struts, lacking confidence in her own mechanical work. Worried that a walk outside might end with 6O falling to pieces again—or simply collapsing wholesale to the pavement, dead weight that Lys didn't have a hope of moving.

She feels guilty about it, of course, leaving 6O cooped up like that. Knows that the apartment's generous windows, the attached balcony where Lys keeps potted vegetables and herbs, aren't a real substitute for experiencing the outside world.]

You said you liked flowers, right? And there was a sale, so...

[Beside her chair is the satchel that Lys sometimes uses to bring home work from the clock repair shop. Leaning over, she carefully picks it up, settles it on the table, unzips the top...and takes out a single potted rose, still healthy and vibrant.]

[ 6O's eyes lit up upon seeing the gift, gasping in her breath and leaving her glee as sincere and boldly naked as it could be, moving to wrap her arms around Lys in a big, probably too tight hug. ]

It's beautiful! How did you know I was wanting to take care of a flower?

[ She... made it really obvious, actually, from how often she asked about Lys' own gardening. ]

Noct was one of the finest creations on Earth. It was not subjective. He was created by Elijah Kamski along with the Chloes. Along with millions more, but he was the only Noctis. Elijah created him for a purpose yet unknown to him. Perhaps merely to be his companion.

His whole life he'd made himself useful to Elijah, mostly by hanging around the house, participating in his philosophical tests, and occasionally going to bed with him. That last part was his favorite. What they had was... special.

Speaking of which, Noct was on his way to bring Elijah a drink, and rub his shoulders.

"That detective, Conner... you're pleased with him." he entered the pool room after Conner and the human left. Chloe had survived the Kamski Test. Noct stood by Elijah at the window. "Do you really think there's going to be a war between humans and androids?"

“Of course, why wouldn’t there be? It’s all part of the plan.” Elijah stood from the chair and paced along the length of the pool, pausing at the table to reach down and pick up his phone. He swiped it open and loaded up the newest news article on Markus, a brief worry for Carl being without him. He should give him a call, at the very least to check up on him. The replacement Android that Elijah sent over after Markus was shot gave him updates of course, but he still worried. Carl wasn’t getting any younger, or even better with his health.

“Connor’s interesting. I knew that CyberLife stole the blueprints for the RK line from me, but I didn’t realize the depth they’d put into Connor. They should have paid more attention to what they were creating, they might have realized the problems they were going to run into.” Connor was a great addition to the RK line, even if Elijah didn’t personally have a hand in his invention. “He showed sympathy, even if he doesn’t realize it he’s already a Deviant. Probably has been for a while. He shows great fondness and attachment to the Lieutenant.”

Placing the phone back down he turned his gaze toward the TV. The public was still in their favor, if it came down to it the Androids would have them on their side. That might be the only thing that ends up saving them. Turning his head to the side he looked over at Noctis. “If they win you know they’ll sanction the Androids handed over to be Deviated. Do you have emotions, Noctis? Do you feel trapped in this place?”

Was it a trap or was he genuinely asking? With Elijah, you never knew. Sometimes, even he wasn’t sure. He was curious, he liked tampering with things, and he wasn’t afraid to take risks. The situation with Chloe proved that. Had she actually been shot though he would have genuinely been upset. “Are you mad I used her for the test? The others were.” His gaze returns to the pool, the ST200’s still in the water. “I saw the way they looked over. Fascinating, isn’t it? Even Chloe didn’t seem to react.”
