[Rude never previously disliked Gongaga. He knows the frogs in the area have the ability to be a menace simply by contact in some instances. This time he wasn't put to sleep temporarily or turned into a frog himself, he was paralyzed. From head to toe unable to move although his ability to breathe, hear, and smell went unchanged.

He goes down with a thud and at first his partner waits with him for it to wear off, but it doesn't. Someone calls for extraction, it's a blur, and Rude in the chaos of everything starts losing time. The next time he comes to is in a hospital bed. He can't look down to verify but he feels like he's in a gown and covered in blankets. Everything smells sterile and he can't tell whether or not he's alone because his eyes are closed and he's unable to open them.

Rude doesn't know how long he's been there, if he's alone, or whether he's being given some sort of antidote for the paralysis yet, so all he can do is wait. Little does he know they've thrown everything at him but the kitchen sink and he's been paralyzed for a several weeks without improvement. Not even Hojo could find use for him right away, but somehow the company was paying to keep him looked after in the meanwhile.]

That miracle is Hojo. Or rather, the threat of Hojo. Reno's the king of gossip, even in his bereaved Don't-Know-What-To-Do-With-Myself state, and the hottest tea in the darkest corners of HQ is that patience is running thin for Shinra's most loyal vegetable. That if he doesn't improve soon, they're considering sending him upstairs.

Over Reno's cold, twisted fucking corpse. There's no way the medbay's tried everything, so he plans accordingly. Fills up a toolbox full of every upper and popper he can scrape off the streets. Bats his lashes at the new intern to get into the bay after hours. Calls himself a pussy eighteen times under his breath and finally, finally, opens the door to Rude's room.

Whatever nightmares he's been having about how bad it would be, it ain't got shit on the real thing. Reno's chest seizes in a way it hasn't since his last trip to this room. His shoes gain a hundred pounds and drag him down with every step closer to Rude's bed. ﴿
