[ Male!Sheik? Was thinking it was more along the lines of “when your duty to the world is to big for the one to yourself” kind of secret relationship! ]

“Sheik, you know that Link is important to the Princess’s fight, don’t you?” Impa was on one of her lecturing speeches again. It had started the moment he walked into her house looking for Paya and hadn't stopped. He’s been here several hours. All he had been intending to do was ask Paya for help, clearly that had been the first mistake he made, she wasn’t even here. Where his cousin had gone was beyond him, actually he thought she was supposed to be visiting Purah soon. Their Aunt had needed her for some research thing. If he had remembered that sooner, he wouldn’t be here.

Their Aunt was one of his favorite people, even if she drove him up a wall. He couldn’t keep up with her energy though she complained he could as a child and that Impa broke him. No, his Grandmother taught him restraint and discipline. He was a good Sheikah Warrior, one of the best in the village if he could give himself some credit. He tried hard, liked helping out where people needed it.

He did not enjoy being lectured by Impa.

Speaking of—he hasn’t exactly answered her, had he? Turning slowly and quite thankful for the mask that hid his expression, Sheik nodded. “Of course, Lady Impa.” Link’s mission had been repeated to him more times than he could count. Paya and him had grown up with lectures of it, stories of the Hero returning to defeat Calamity Ganon and save the Princess. When Sheik was younger he used to tell Impa that he would save Zelda if Link failed. She’d laugh at him and tell him he was a very adorable warrior.

Now that he’s actually met Link, seeing the sorry state it drags himself back to Kakariko in—the toll it mentally takes on him on top of it all. That was not a fate that he would wish on anyone. Most of the time he just wished that he could help more, that he could take some of the burden from Link. The biggest problem with all of it was that Link wouldn’t let him help.

Sheik could see how the memories took their toll on him, and from what he understood all he got was bits and pieces. He didn’t remember everything, not even his own parents. The kind of mental impact that had to have on someone, it wasn’t just easily brushed off and discarded. It had to hurt. Sheik couldn’t imagine waking up one day and not remembering Impa. As much as his Grandmother was hard to deal with, she still raised him and Paya. She was still the most parental figure they had, and someone they both loved deeply.

He wanted to help.

“So you’re not distracting him, correct?” Blinking, Sheik looked over at Impa and narrowed his eyes a bit. She had a look on her face, the kind she got when she teased Link, he hated that look. It seemed to say she knew something he didn’t. That was unnerving. “When he visits he seems to spend quite a bit of time around you.”

“I help out in the stores.” He deflected instantly, trying to make his way toward the exit of the house. “The Hero needs supplies, so he visits the stores. Which reminds me, I promised Claree I’d help her today. I’ll be taking my leave now, Lady Impa.”

“Call me Grandmother!” The door clicked shut and Sheik heaved a long sigh.

He had a growing headache. Shaking his head Sheik hurried down the steps of the house, nodding to Dorian and Cado. Avoiding conversation he made his way to the Clothing Store and slipped inside. Claree picked her head up from the sowing machine and smiled widely, a needle sticking out of her mouth. “Sheik! Perfect timing, stock these for me.” A box was tossed on top of the counter and he made his way over, tugging it down into his arms. As he started walking toward the first mannequin he heard Claree making a muffled sound of surprise. She threw herself at the counter, grinning. “Link! My day just keeps getting better.”

The box was sat as his feet and Sheik turned to the side, gaze landing on the Hylian. Quickly he did a once over, then another, making sure to search for any signs of bleeding or discomfort. He couldn’t see anything but that didn’t mean the other was perfectly fine. “Good evening.” He nodded his head in greeting and crouched down to open the box. “Lady Impa was just asking about you.” He barely escaped her clutches.
