Phoenix saw Christine's first performance. It was enough to get him to come back for her second. And her third. He doesn't even like opera, but he really likes her voice. And then that horror show happened where she was kidnapped from the stage, everyone started shooting everywhere, and it was complete madness.

Phoenix didn't know what happened until after the police found the so-called 'Phantom of the Opera' and saved Christine. The Phantom in question was the kind of wretched soul that Phoenix couldn't help but pity. From what Phoenix could gather, Erik Doe didn't really have a chance at a normal life. Perhaps his crimes could have been prevented by a little kindness in his earlier years.

So Phoenix volunteered to take his legal defense pro-bono. That was how he met Christine, actually. He hoped to let her know that he had no intention of unleashing her kidnapper on her again, just to make sure he's treated fairly by the legal system, but to his surprise she actually seemed pleased. He'd expected her to call him a monster for defending the man who had killed her cast mates and put her through such a terrifying ordeal. It was one of the many ways Christine surprised him.

After a couple months of negotiating, Phoenix secured Erik a bed at a high-security state mental institution. Not a fantastic place to be, but better than all alone in the sewers or the gallows, and maybe Erik won't be so lonely there. And yes, Phoenix verified that there was a piano that Erik would have access to, and he intends to check in with Erik's new doctor regularly to make sure he's getting the treatment he needs. He told Christine himself over drinks after all the paperwork was filed, since he thought she had a right to know.

That was when her eyes shined in such a sincere way that it made him blush. And perhaps that was what led to him kissing her when they lingered over a few too many drinks. And that's definitely what led to him inviting her home for the night.

The first thing he does when the door is closed is to press her against it, his heart thudding in his chest as he examines her face for any hint that she doesn't want this. "You're beautiful, Christine," he says before moving to kiss her again.

Kimahri did not know how much time had passed since he'd been brought to the Shinra laboratory.
