Rainy Day Meme

Rainy day meme

You've cross-indexed every weather report and they all call for rain.
Use the RNG to randomize, or pick a prompt yourself.

Stay Dry:
1. Umbrella-ella-ella:
A rainbow of colors, from black to red and leopard spots and clear.
2. Raincoat: You've got your raincoat buttoned up--but what about your friend?
3. Staying Inside: You're not going anywhere. Hot tea/cocoa/coffee/bloodwine/whatever, a blanket, and maybe a good book or someone to chat with. You can watch the rain from here.
4. Under an awning/outside: No umbrella, no coat, but maybe these shopkeepers won't mind you standing here until it eases off.
5. Tree: Probably not the best idea, but it's not a thunderstorm, so you might be dry, if it's a big enough tree.

Getting wet:
6. Puddle splashing:
Put on your galoshes and have some fun! Or maybe the puddles are just too big to avoid...
7. Let's Play! are you one of those strange people who think the best time to go out and run, bike, or play sports is in the rain? Garden? Fly kites? (Please try not to imitate Ben Franklin.)
8. Work or Duty: You're not out here for fun--you HAVE to be out here. Too bad the weather's so awful
9. Unprepared: The trees are all drippy, the wind gets under any awnings you can find, and finding a dry place to stand for a few minutes is nigh impossible.
10. Umbrell-eh? You thought you were all prepared for the wet weather. And then your umbrella broke, your raincoat sprung a leak, and the gutters are overflowing.

Extreme:
11. Thunderbolts and Lightning!
Very very frightening? Or maybe you're reveling in it? Telling scary stories to make it worse or soothing frayed nerves with a lullaby?
12. Blow Blow Thou Wind: It gets into everything! Blowing you off course, small dogs away from owners, and whatever else it can get at. Or maybe you're smart enough to watch the blasts from inside.
13. Water's Rising: Is it just me, or are the creeks getting a little high? Or maybe it's just your waterlogged yard or gutters.
14. Freezing rain: oh well now THIS is fun. Leaves everything in a coating of ice. Slick, brings down powerlines--but you can sled on it (if you don't value your skull much).

15. Wild Card Is it raining frogs? Cats and dogs? Storm of the year? Just a drizzly mist? Rain that lasts for about 5 seconds and then it's sunny again? Whatever floats your boat, so to speak.

You remember that?

[There's a touch of surprise, even amusement, in Merlin's voice too. Well of course he remembers didn't he promise that he'd never forget?]

[Merlin murmurs a few words, and even if Mordred doesn't see the ground surrounding the tree suddenly carpeted with wildflowers, he'll most surely smell them sweet and in bloom.]

There. That should make our jobs easier.

[Merlin crouches and starts to gather some.]

i am sorry for mordreds ridiculousness in this.

Of course I remember, but it's in a day past. Perhaps together we may trick the Knights some time. I think it could be quite amusing if Gwaine's mead always seemed to disappear from his mug.

[ He laughs softly and keeps his eyes closed, the smell of the wildflowers enticing. He knows what has happened, can feel a ripple of recognition roll up his spine. He could always feel magic, as though it was rooted deep within him. He opens his eyes, breathless a moment. Why couldn't Morgana understand this? The beautiful life that magic could provide. ]

Arthur is very lucky to have you.

[ He kneels to start picking the flowers, smiling. If Merlin is paying attention, he may notice how the flowers bloom a little brighter, their colors growing more vibrant, and the blossoms blooming a tiny bit bigger. No doubt Gwen will never have seen any like these before. All it takes is the flicker of an iris, a quiet thought, magic. ]

And I only hope perhaps one day he knows exactly what he should be thankful for.

[ He is at peace here, and it's strange, how very calm he feels. He shouldn't, because there is still the problem of Merlin's wavering trust, but for now he feels for a moment as though nothing stands between them. He picks up one of the seedlings, much like the beginnings of a dandelion with its white fuzzy top and blows it, the little seedlings likely flying and hitting Merlin in the face.]

The rain brings a strange wind, doesn't it.

it's perfect!

[The idea of the two of them working together for the sake of mischief...it inspires a strange ache in his heart. Merlin didn't even allow himself to wish for a brother growing up, for someone else like him. Fate has brought just such a person to Camelot. And yet-]

[Merlin watches Mordred, who seems nothing but innocent as he picks wildflowers. He doesn't do all that he does for acknowledge. But it still feels nice.]

Even if Arthur welcomes magic one day, I'm not sure he'd thank me.

[He's lied to him, for almost a decade he's lied. Merlin's not sure that even his magic is strong enough to heal such a betrayal. How will Arthur reconcile secrets and friendship? It seems Merlin's thoughts are always this serious these days. Until they're interrupted by a bit of dandelion fluff that makes the sorcerer sneeze suddenly.]

[An adorable sneeze.]

I do think he will forgive you once he understands. Perhaps it will take time. It will be difficult but I think Cameron will see peace one day.

[The sneeze makes him laugh.] Feeling ill, Merlin? We cannot have that. Arthur shall not allow you time away from cleaning his armor.

[Mordred grins and rises with an armful of flowers. He takes a deep breath.]

I don't think the rain will ever stop.

It was just the-

[Merlin gestures to the flowers before he finishes gathering his own. Mordred mentions the rain and he glances up at the sky.]

It will. All things come to an end. And we'll appreciate the blue skies more for it.

[He stands, offering the druid a small smile.]

Come on. Our Queen is waiting for her romantic gesture from her husband.

[Or the two of them.]

Yes, I suppose you're right.

[ He smiles in return to the sorcerer, and it's strange, this moment, where he thinks perhaps they may live in peace here, as allies. ]

Somehow I do not think Gwen will be surprised.

[ He looks out at the rain again before stepping out from under the tree. The rain is almost warm to his skin and he sighs. ]
