[ She’s never been an easy sleeper. Never long, or hard. On Jakku, she pushed herself in the mines of the desert until her body ached, day in and day out; until she collapsed, praying for sleep — making herself sleep, just to start it all over again at the crack of dawn.

She huffs a breath out and turns, burying her face deeper into the pillow, forcing her eyes shut tighter.

Words roll around in her head. A velvet voice, mocking her from light years away. Desperate to sleep. Teeth grinding, she pulls the covers closer to chest and curses the man responsible. Willing the thought of him far away.

Not tonight.

She’s near to achieving sleep when she becomes slowly aware of the soft breaths behind her, the prickle along her spine and the hum of the bond. Half asleep, she jerks back to consciousness, heart thudding in her ears. ]
